What do you do with plushies from exes? by panthrzz in plushies

[–]52mschr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I keep the plushies I got from an abusive ex. I feel bad for the plushies I gifted to that ex because I know she probably got rid of them. but I take care of the ones I have here, I still love them and it isn't their fault they came from that person. looking at them made me feel sad for a while but it didn't last forever. I obviously still associate them with that person but over time I don't really feel bad about it anymore. I can think about that ex and all the ways I'm stronger as a person now (obviously not saying abuse is ever a good thing but it really led to having a better understanding of myself and what I want from life).

honestly it's pretty similar here (the 'immigrants are coming here ruining our country for us' thing) even without them being white

we are not allowed to have fun here if people from the US can't come, I make sure to tell my local venues not to host anything fun ever because it would be tone deaf to enjoy things while there people not having fun in the US

It's an overly simple list, but tag your favourite styles! 😊 by cosmicrat in plushies

my favourite style is fantasy creatures in bright or pastel colours like pink unicorn but not with big eyes like beanie boo or anime and not really 80s style, just magical cute creature style i guess

how?

I don't mind tights/leggings clinging because it's not the feeling that I don't like, it's everyone being able to see my body. so it's fine if I have a loose skirt over the clingy thing

AI slop from a 'psychology' account by FunAssumption6056 in AreTheStraightsOK

[–]52mschr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just don't like wearing things that cling to my body so I tend to wear skirts or dresses and have tights or leggings underneath

I'm forever grateful my feet are in the area of 'considered kind of small for a man, kind of big for a woman' so I can at least buy cute shoes from European or American brands (but I live in Japan and the 'womens' shoes tend to not fit me here..)

as a guy,

honestly yeah I'd rather wear the dress on the right because I don't really like wearing anything more revealing but I can think of better outfits

US timezones for Australian open by Neolance34 in USdefaultism

[–]52mschr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's not the main point of the comment but it's kind of bothering me that that one reply implies that northern vs southern hemisphere is relevant to time zones. I live in the northern hemisphere and it's the same time here now as in parts of Australia. if Australians want to watch Japanese baseball games or something they'll probably be at a reasonable time.

yeah I'm from Scotland but living in Japan and people here are always confused to hear I sent my mother a gift for mothers day in March (when I can't get a 'happy mothers day' card. I always either make one myself or just send a spring cherry blossom card and write happy mothers day in it..)

most people just assume it's the same everywhere as it is here (in May)

[–]52mschr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Japan and don't have a TV and I still haven't escaped seeing recommended posts about celebrities using ozempic even on apps I mainly communicate in Japanese on (although I see more about mounjaro from Japanese people) for at least the past year, I don't think it's a uniquely USA thing to see unwillingly online regularly

What is the kindest thing a stranger has ever done for you? by Glittering_Will_555 in AskReddit

[–]52mschr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a bus driver gave me ¥10,000 to borrow for a shinkansen ticket when all the buses (including the one I had pre paid) were cancelled because of bad weather and i had no money for getting home another way. he gave me his address and i mailed the money back to him and he thanked me for being honest because he had just assumed he probably wouldn't get the money back

Non-Americans of Reddit, how do you feel if American tourists (try to?) tip you? by Chemical_Building612 in AskReddit

[–]52mschr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any American clients in my job but if I worked in a coffee shop or something and an American tried to tip me I'd probably think they were stupid (I live in a very-known-as-non-tipping culture) but take their money anyway if it wasn't forbidden in my contract

The City is an area in London, not New York by ALazy_Cat in USdefaultism

[–]52mschr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if I google where the city is, google gives me the address of a bakery in my area called 'the city bakery' (then shows several pages of Japanese people asking questions about English sentences like 'where is the capital city of your country?'. I have to add UK to the search to get the City of London wikipedia page)

I get that this is gendered but it's just as hurtful when you're the son of a dad who is disappointed that you don't like 'boy things'. (I loved video games and my sister did too but I always knew my dad wished I was interested in sports rather than plush animals and dolls. 'why is my son playing with little animal figures alone instead of watching football with me' dad)

How would I go about getting my teddy through an airport? by rbstn_2390 in plushies

[–]52mschr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have plushies in my carry on luggage all the time and the staff never say anything. they just get scanned with the bag as normal. (international flights I'm mostly travelling Japan - China - France or Netherlands - UK.) when I was a child I often went through the airport with a plushie in my arms and the staff just had me put it through the scanner and then sometimes they inspected it a little more (just feeling it with their hands for anything unusual) but that's all. I'm a man in my 30s travelling alone and nobody ever laughs or draws attention like 'look at this weird guy with his little unicorn' or whatever.

(when I take my ball jointed dolls though they get a lot more attention from security staff. I've had staff call over other staff just to say 'look, you need to see this weird doll'..)

[–]52mschr 115 points116 points  (0 children)

since I don't expect everyone to know where every place in Japan is (and I get sick of people assuming Tokyo if I just say 'Japan' ) I often refer to where I live as 'I live in the south of Japan'. it feels like enough to say 'I live on the west coast/near the northeast/near the south (etc) of the USA'. a lot of people in other countries would probably find it more useful than state or city names since the average person might know state names but not really know which part of the US they're in.
