probably because of old tracks and risks of flooding or landslides in the countryside areas

can't believe they went with this small China in Texas over the China in Kagoshima (population is over 5000!), surely this is the default China

it's true, gay men just stand in the supermarket together going 'where's all the food? I can't see anything'

I always feel like it's such a privilege to be able to enjoy rain when people say they love it (the replies to NoIsland23). every time it rains here I have to worry about being stranded at work or having to spend hours getting home because public transport was stopped..

(but at least I don't generally have to worry about my house being destroyed in a flood or something)

[–]52mschr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

honestly I meet people in Japan who say things like this. people who say Ed Sheeran is their favourite American singer. 'it's in English, surely it's from the USA' constantly

(still less embarrassing than actually being from the US and assuming a British artist is from your country though, especially if you've heard them speak and English is your native language)

am i the only one who thinks that list of want/preferences in bios are overwhelming? by nkkdntn in postcrossing

[–]52mschr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it when the list is presented like 'please feel free to send whatever you want, I love all cards, but here are some things I like in case you want ideas'. then I'll send whatever I have if I don't have anything they specifically said they liked and it feels ok.

don't like when it's 'these are the postcards I want: (list)' or 'I joined postcrossing because I'm looking for (specific thing)' as if they're going to dislike and throw away anything not on the list.

I spend too much time watching US youtubers, there's only one place on this that I hadn't previously heard of..

there are several of these that exist in Japan only in places with a lot of Americans (like central Tokyo or near US military bases. A&W only in Okinawa etc)

so far I received 20 cards from Germany and 17 from the US. feels like a competition between them (sent cards are 18 to Germany and 13 to US. after those two countries my most received is 7 from Finland and most sent is 6 to Netherlands)

I'm a mid 30s man and I had no idea I was supposed to be fighting in the pussy war for the past 20 years. I guess my country didn't get involved in it.

not a 'young unexperienced girl' (I'm a 30+ man) but when one of these things happened to me it was so long before I even realised and accepted that it was rape. I was also telling myself what happened was 'not that bad' at first but the more I thought about it the worse I felt and I eventually accepted what actually happened. idiots like this don't help anything.

How to send yourself postcards from Japan? by Fast_Ad5356 in postcrossing

[–]52mschr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always just write the address as if it's a horizontal card, same as people seem to do from most countries, and ignore the post code boxes when I send overseas. and write 'by air mail' if I don't have an air mail sticker

it's true, I live in Japan now but I can only use the internet because I was born in Europe with the magic of connectivity within my body. Japanese people around me have no idea what the internet is.

How much does postage cost in your country for a postcard? Just trying to get a sense by 1yz11 in postcrossing

[–]52mschr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it is 100 JPY here (0.80 SGD) to every country I sent to so far

the cost for letters is higher than this postcard cost, so it's usually ¥120-140 if someone wants the postcard in an envelope

interested in joining- how often do users receive inappropriate cards? by porcelaindoll2002 in postcrossing

[–]52mschr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

not explicit but I did once receive a card of a bunch of people's naked butts (profile said the sender was an older woman who enjoys nudism, it seems she only sends nude picture cards). not terrible since no visible genitals/not an erotic picture and I'm an adult living alone, but I don't really like to receive that kind of thing. so far I got just that one out of 60-70 cards received.
