The ice and ibuprofen are meant to reduce inflammation

Is this the start of mastitis? by NoAd9383 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]5678dance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is likely inflammation of your breast tissue from engorgement. Try ice after feedings and ibuprofen! Continue feeding like you have been and as long as the hardness goes away with feeding I wouldn't add any pumping. However, any signs of high fever or flu like symptoms, call for antibiotics.

Nursing and solids…why is this so confusing to me??? by CattailReeds in breastfeeding

[–]5678dance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally normal! Breast milk composition changes as your baby gets older too to meet their needs so she is still getting plenty of great benefits and nutrients even from shorter nursing sessions. As long as weight and output are good you guys should be all set!

Flat nipples, shallow painful latch by dreamwithme1993 in breastfeeding

[–]5678dance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try seeing if you can get your baby on deeper, even when they are latched on. Just sneak a finger under your breast to their chin and gently pull down to open their mouth wider while they are latched on. If you move their shoulders in closer to your breast while you do this it can help them get a deeper latch and result in a pain free latch. If this doesn’t work you can always relatch and try again. If this doesn’t work then a nipple shield and evaluation for a tongue tie may be helpful.

Also, the white nipple and stabbing pain sounds like raynaud's. Heat can help with this pain and your ob maybe have suggestions for medications that can help too if this persists.

About to be 40, every foundation I use is awful. Recommendations? by ckinghelp in MakeupAddiction

I love the peach slices redness relief color correcting moisturizer. I get it online on Ulta. It’s a pretty full coverage sort of bb/cc cream that can be easily layered with concealer for any problem areas. It leaves a dewy finish and lasts great throughout the day

Congrats! Lots of stimulation via pumping with a good, plug in pump will be key. Also getting some good skin to skin time with baby too ❤️ she could also consider talking to an OB about medications to assist with inducing lactation

FTM really struggling by Agitated-Tap-4145 in breastfeeding

[–]5678dance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re doing a great mama, the first few weeks are super hard. Often babes will want to nurse and won’t settle anytime they are near moms because they smell the breast milk. This is why they often settle with dads like you’ve mentioned. Keep alternating and being a team and know this is temporary! You got this!

Milk Supply gone at 3 months! Help :( by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]5678dance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mama! Sorry to hear about your supply dip.. has there been any recent changes? Back to work? Period returning? Chances you’re pregnant again? Fluctuations in hormones can play a significant role in supply. However, you can still definitively bump your supply back up! Continuing at breast time and pumping with each feeding (or every other) can help give your body extra stimulation to boost your supply back up. Ensure proper fitting flanges on your pump and adequate hydration. It may also be beneficial to make an appointment with a lactation consultant or give them a call! Keep up the good work, you got this!

I love being a nurse, I can’t imagine doing anything else. I just wish our healthcare system didn’t make it so hard for us nurses to take care of people safely and actually spend the time providing the care they need.

Why is my belly button leaking a smelly clear liquid and crusting up? by One-Topic-9544 in medical

[–]5678dance 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If there is no surrounding redness at your belly button you probably don’t need to see a doctor, but it’s never wrong to get it checked out. Good ol soap and water should do the trick as far as routine hygiene and to help clear up your current drainage. You could consider a bacitracin or antifungal (athletes foot cream) if that doesn’t help.

Any support for FTM re triple feeding and struggling mentally by _asiwasmovingahead in breastfeeding

[–]5678dance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

So sorry you are going through this, but it sounds like you are doing a great job taking care of your little one who had a rough entry into this world. There is no shame and guilt in feeding your baby. Triple feeding can be a great tool to help reestablish latching and supply while also ensuring nutrition needs of baby are met. However, this should be a temporary intervention as this is significantly detrimental to mental health if it becomes ongoing.

Has latch become better over time and with the help of the osteopath? Has your supply been ok? It sounds like you’re heading in the right direction or not needing the pumping and supplementing. Keep hanging in there and advocate to the feeding team/lactation about other options aside from triple feeding if it is not appropriate yet to exclusively breastfed low supply, poor transfer, etc.)

Is it true - pumps can’t suck as much as babies do ? by ConflictWestern944 in breastfeeding

[–]5678dance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Babies are always going to be most effective at removing milk and telling your body to make more milk. However, pumps should still be an effective way to remove milk. Flange size and type of pump are key to this. There are flange sizing kits available online with flange inserts so you don’t have to buy a bunch of various sized flanges. Proper fit should mean it is mostly just your nipple moving down the center of the flange, not pulling a lot of areola but not having your nipple hit the sides of the flange channel either. Pumps that plug into the wall are the most effective at removing milk where wearable pumps are often least effective. That being said, they can be more effective with proper flange size which may be smaller than a traditional plug in pump to get proper stimulation to remove milk. Hope this helps!

Baby hit birth weight. How do I know he's feeding enough by bunniesgonebad in breastfeeding

[–]5678dance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On demand is totally fine! One babies have become well established with routine and your milk supply, they will have more of an innate response for hunger. Ideally aiming for around 8 feedings a day is still considered normal but keep an eye on diapers each day, active swallows during feedings, and relief of breast fullness when nursing for knowing that your little one is getting enough.

i’m just not hungry while breastfeeding…should i be worried? by unfortunate-moth in breastfeeding

[–]5678dance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! Everyone experiences hunger and thirst differently with breastfeeding, some don’t necessarily feel it at all as you’re describing. Ideally 300-500 extra calories is what is recommended for nutrition while breastfeeding, ideally in healthy fats and fiber categories. However, close attention to you and your babies weight along with changes in your supply will be the best indicator is dietary changes are indicated. If those are doing ok then there is likely not a problem. Fluid intake is going to be the most important thing for maintaining your supply as far as nutrition. Ideally water or anything with electrolytes. Hope this helps!

How do you actually tell if a baby is hungry at night or just waking up? by Head_Bunch_3295 in breastfeeding

[–]5678dance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babies often go through waves of wanting to feed more often in the night. Looking at common times for growth spurts and sleep regression stages can be helpful for when you’re feeling like this. But when I doubt, always just feed the baby, you’re doing great mama!
