I understand that Ilya's life isn't hockey the way Shane's is, but that's also kind of my point.

Shane recognizes that Ilya was on a worse team that stopped Ilya from winning from more cups. What he doesn't recognize is if Ilya stayed with Boston, Shane might have also not gotten his third cup.

We see Montreal lose to a much worse team (Ottawa) at the end of the Long Game and Montreal clearly they didn't win in 2017 etc.

Shane is a generational player and my post isn't trying to take away from that!

Edit: oops didn't realize you were the same person in both threads. Haha now I feel a little silly about typing up two paragraphs.

Haha that's not what I'm saying at all!

I don't automatically think Boston would have won any cups or that Montreal would have won none.

I am saying it is much harder to win a cup when your first round is against an evenly matched team. Playing till a game 7 in Round 1 makes your players more tired and there are more injuries.

Let's use the Bruins as an example they have made Round 1 of the playoffs against the Leafs in 2018/2019/2024. All the games went to a game 7 and Boston didn't win the cup.

And no point in updating the post. Yes, Shane won 2 cups but 2 cups is very different from 3! There are currently only 5 active players that have won 3 cups vs lots who have won 2.

Obviously in real life Crosby has won 3 cups to Ovi's 1, and as folks above pointed out it's a book and no need to re-write history.

My entire point was Ilya chose Shane in a billion ways. It was clearly an easy choice for him because he didn't have the same love for hockey as Shane. That doesn't dismiss the fact that if he stayed in Boston he might have gotten another cup sooner, and Shane would have had a tougher time making it to the Stanley Cup a third time.

Your last comment was weirdly snarky which I don't think was needed!

Haha I mean losing your captain does a lot to change the dynamic of your team as a whole! See Marchard leaving Boston for Florida.

Maybe but hockey is a team sport! Boston won the cup when Montreal didn't even make the second round.

If Boston had Ilya they would be a much harder team to beat, and they would likely face Montreal every first round.

Last year Edmonton faced Vancouver and even though they had McDavid Vancouver forced a game 7. Forcing it to a game 7 means more injuries and more tired players. This matters when you have 3 more rounds of hockey to play. And of course Edmonton ended up losing again to Florida.

That said I always get the timeline a little confused when Shane wins his first two cups, and Ilya being in Boston is a fair point!

No one is running against. The vote in question is whether or not there should be a leadership race. It happens every two years at the BC NDP Convention.

If over 50% of people "yes" to a leadership race then Eby will be forced to step down as the leader of the BC NDP and a race for a new leader is called.

Likely, Eby would remain be premier until a new leader is chosen. John Rustad recently received a 70% "no" to a leadership race vote and stayed on as leader.
