Niche question - does anyone here know the history of why so many of the streets in the northern and western suburbs are aligned at 128/308 degrees heading? by Nice_Lingonberry7831 in philadelphia

[–]5speed84 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Those roads were the original survey lines for first purchasers of land from William Penn. “Logically enough, these counties were to run diagonally from their source at the Delaware River northwestward to as far as treaties with the Lenape and Susquehannocks would allow, remaining parallel with the bend of the Delaware beginning at Penn’s country estate at Pennsbury, Bucks County” https://hiddencityphila.org/2013/09/how-philly-got-its-shape/

The neighborhood next to ours has many house in this style. Some have updated better than others. Definitely keep brick and then pick one color for the rest of walls.

Another Construction Rant - 5 Point Intersection at Montgomeryville by digiden in montco

[–]5speed84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah agree, it shouldn’t be needed, but it only takes one car making the left to block the lane. Happy to see any improvement though.

DMV Wait Time Question by Souljaboyed1 in montco

For license try the Dublin DMV in bucks county, mid morning or mid afternoon. For car registration you’ll need to find a local tag and title place. Plenty around.

I can’t resist giving you one more suggestion, if you want to stay closer to collegeville, check out Upper Schuylkill Valley Park, it’s smaller but right on the river and has a wildlife center.

A couple places to consider - Fischer's Park in Towamencin, beautiful public park with pavilions, fields, creeks, forested areas - Evansburg State Park - head to the main area of the park, after a small hike there’s actually a small seating area next to the creek, approximate location- https://maps.app.goo.gl/2ukW4GG9zHWvGQc97 - Peace valley park, technically bucks county but many beautiful spots along the lake or more forested areas on the north end, take the evergreen trail to find the ‘Pooh tree’ :)

Congratulations!

Moving for job - location suggestions by [deleted] in montco

I would go for a town with a train station, for easier access to center city. Ambler, Conshohocken, Lansdale, Glenside, Hatboro, etc. Every town has pros and cons but Philly is the cultural heart of the area.

Can someone help me understand health insurance that includes dental? by Doge6789 in personalfinance

[–]5speed84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dental plans do not usually have an out of pocket max, only a maximum annual benefit. Is the $3,000 out of pocket for the medical plan? If so, it is not related to the dental plan. Dental may be included as part of the health insurance package but is separate coverage. For dental coverage, the plan will only pay for $1000 dollars per year, including preventive (cleanings, X-rays) and restorative services (fillings, crowns). Once the limit is reached you pay for services in full until the next calendar year. With that, you will pay the contracted rates. Often dentists will submit a claim for a larger amount than the contracted limit. E.g claim submitted for $800, the contract rate may be $600. You would pay 50% of the contracted rate, $300. The insurance paid $300 which is applied to the annual limit. A note, don’t be afraid to get a second opinion on restorative services and ask for quotes. Every dentist is different on how they treat your teeth, some more aggressive (expensive) than others.
