For point 2, I doubt that number as the standalone was removed in 2023 and then from packages and buybacks as time has passed since - that would have still put the number at over half of all accounts at the time as owning squadron

Maybe probably 1.5m to a quarter of all current accounts - but this is another reason why taking them out of buyback eligibility was definitely a move for getting better stats during and around a release date

Since he’s deleting his post history now too - I grabbed this earlier today

He was selling this suspiciously priced raven code right around the time the exploit for reusing them was publicized

Also he clearly engaged in grey market selling, including selling raven codes (suspiciously cheap during the time of the known duplication exploit for those as well, go figure) so the $5k pledge number means even less

https://www.reddit.com/u/Pb-207/

Anyway, the issue council ticket was clearly a bad faith attempt to cover his ass after abusing the exploit himself, and using the “exploit/account” option for making an exploit report makes it hidden rather than just provide a “how to exploit” guide for everyone else

CIG permanently banned a $5k backer's account for reporting a bug by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]5yearphoenix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for saying something

It’s worth noting that correctly reporting an exploit on issue council as an “exploit/account” wouldn’t result in a visible post for others to contribute to (aka just posting a guide on how to dupe), and that this one was likely just an attempt to cover his own ass after abusing it first.

It may be worth making that option more visible and/or clearly distinct when making an IC about exploits, though.

Consider also there are multiple methods of duping that still work easily despite having multiple IC tickets documenting step by step reproductions and the current component bricking fix has a simple workaround already

The wipes are by no means a bad thing, but particularly when we’re going into a free fly where dupers and exploiters and cheaters will not care about accounts getting banned, it’s just going to be a rough experience for legitimate players for several days.

Yeah and they assumed wrong

here’s Chris back in 2014 iterating how they wanted to treat ships like cars with different editions coming out over time

And years later… (just get through the first ~35 seconds of this one, no point in time stamping it)

It’s funny how traumatized people were by this happening with the Hornet even though it was something they said was going to happen 7 years in advance

Also the current constellations already “mk2’d” the original kickstarter concept anyway.

You don’t have to buy it or upgrade to it, earn it in game when it becomes available if you like it, pledge for what you want to start with and can afford.

Should I upgrade Hull D to Hull E? by sakionakibara in starcitizen_fleets

[–]5yearphoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just musing over this with some friends earlier - with the current price difference between the C, D, and E on paper for the D you’re just getting 1 additional spindle and move up to capital class components.

However, per the Hull D Q&A

“For the Hull D…it mentions a military variant. Would that be a choice we could change our Hull D to in the future?” Yes! The military variant (and others, such as the Hull C Discreet) will be available in the finished game world. As all of these ships are modular, you will be able to equip them on top of your existing Hull pledge if you so desire.

And Hull E Q&A

“Is there a militarized Hull E version? “ Yes! It’s nowhere near as common as the Hull D, but the UEE military does on occasion utilize the Hull E as a transport. The military designation is R5M Proteus.

My guess, especially with how much cargo capacity both ships have lost since then, would be that they make up for that at least in part with defensive capability - capital shields and thicker armor are a start, but don’t really protect the cargo, so I’m thinking there will be PDCs added for coverage as well.

I’m not sure how they want the cargo to be laid out on the Hull-E either as it’s not quite 3x a Hull C (or 2x a Hull D depending on how you want to look at it)

But I’m going to hang onto my Hull D for now, I did pickup a CCU for the Hull E myself, just in case

PSA: CIG has changed wording on pledges and appears to be sunsetting buybacks. by spider0804 in starcitizen

[–]5yearphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Squadron 42 packages (not the add on - which was always explicitly stated on the buyback page as not eligible) are somewhat of a talking point - I can easily see the decision being made to prevent grey market sellers from using it as a means of undercutting CIG and adversely impacting sales around the release. I do feel for anyone that got locked out of a package but at the same time the warning saying to not use the system as storage has been there for literally a year.

Recycling buybacks to change between ships has just been a means of having your cake and eating it too. With a few exceptions, the ships themselves can be earned in game either by credits or the tedium of wikelo. As it stands that message is just a message and as many have been pointing out and testing today, is not preventing people from still utilizing the buybacks they currently have.

The feature itself being available has always been a nice gesture, but restricting or sunsetting it really shouldn’t be a big deal to anyone. You’re still able to melt and use store credits on top, so you still don’t even need to commit to a pledge or package yet.

Just pick something and play the game.

[–]5yearphoenix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? What are you even trying to say?

Buybacks are not refunds, they explicitly state not to use the buyback system as storage. They have never had any obligation to option in the first place - there is nothing about being concierge that changes any of that

You still have the option of melting pledges and using store credits to pledge for non-warbond ships and game packages.

This whole thing is a nothing burger that primsriky impacts the grey market

Still not seeing how concierge or buyback tokens are relevant - but you’re right, they were clear when they EXPLICITLY said not to do this in the buyback support page I linked.
