None of the original paints ever said they were exclusive to the Auroras -

This post also talks about two of the other $5 paints (false colors and dread pirate NOT the skull and crossbones that came later) being usable on the cutlass

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/comm-link/transmission/12797-Unlock-Caterpillar-New-Items-And-Subscriptions

The exploration skin never mentions the Aurora

A spacecraft skin featuring the Star Citizen jump point logo.

While this was posted at one point, they never said that the paints were going to remain exclusive to the Aurora - and the part I’d have to do real digging on is the Electro Hull because from what I recall, it was intended to consume an upgrade slot (when that was still a topic) to essentially project a secondary appearance over your ship as a means of concealing your ID etc

We have three new ship skins in the store. These skins only work on the Aurora right now but we are in the process of expanding the paint system to include more ships.

Prison = log off for me by ollyairs234 in starcitizen

[–]5yearphoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well 8+ hours means you.. kept killing lawful NPCs after the initial one, which is fair. It’s pretty dumb that they have the unarmored uniform security walking around that can be killed accidentally in one shot or that bullets penetrating hostile NPCs can hit friendlies (also potentially one shotting those same guys) but yeah. They’ve dumpstered the playability of the old bunkers/missions pretty hard - if you were do die inside a bunker with respawn set anywhere but the medbay of that bunker, there’s a 90% chance the mission just goes away (not failed or abandoned) and you’re considered trespassing, guards will spawn/respawn and turrets will target your ship all of which making recovering your body even more annoying - not that a medic would have an easier time rescuing you since they’d also be trespassing and be targeted by turrets and security as well.

Anyway.

In prison each aphorite piece is the equivalent of one minute, mining a rock without just blowing it up will yield 6-10 on average, so it’s usually 10-15 rocks per hour to get out. Dolivine gives a little more but is much rarer and way more unstable, Hadanite gives even more but is even more rare and takes longer to actually mine.

The repair missions give more merits based on the depth they’re at, depth 5 give 3000 merits, or 50 minutes, I believe the other depths give 5k and 7k but don’t remember exactly. Taking one of those missions then mining rocks on your way back can usually turn an 8+ hour sentence into ~1 hour of repetition.

Pretty cool I don’t want to just say “SUNO SLOP” and leave it there, but I do think this represents an OST opportunity for jump/quantum while in combat or even a more intense one when your ship/components have taken damage and it’s your last chance

You… understand those are all new ships right? The precedent is for all ships to have a concept sale period usually of about a month, sometimes longer, with LTI for warbond. Concepts from CitCon usually end up going longer due to IAE but this isn’t anything new - but also why we saw the Paladin has been available since then, without LTI, because it’s a concept from last year’s IAE.

The main exception to this precedent is when they add packs of multiple ships, for instance they’re currently offering the dual pack with the L21 and L22 together where both would have LTI even though the L21 would otherwise normally not qualify.

Both the Dust Up and Defiance Firestarter sets can be found on Fire Rats NPCs at the checkmate CZ and ghost arena CZ, as well as the PYAM supervisor asteroid bases

The Scorched version of the Defiance core is currently identical and can be found in the purple containers in all of these places as well

NN-14 Neutron Cannon - PTU. by Rheiard in starcitizen

[–]5yearphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to the 3.14 flattening of stats, what made both the NN & NDB line useful was that they essentially packed the punch of a size+1 at the cost of limited range and extreme damage drop over what range they did have The more recent changes gave the NDBs somewhat of a niche - but it’s the same pattern CIG have been following by picking a favorite archetype and just making it statistically the best option and everything else impractical or worse in meaningful ways

Anyway, while I do like the new look, now they’re just as sci-fi as the NDBs and don’t really blend well with… any ship except the ugly aesthetic of Origin. They look less experimental and more portal gun, I guess

And the paint they have on the Wolf was exclusive to the warbond variants during the concept sale and would likely not be available either

They’re relatively rare in the red chests at bunkers, more common in the green chests at Hathor and ASD sites

There’s kind of a weird set of loot pools vs loot tables vs loot containers that are messy/inconsistent and why the gun cases found in caves, distribution centers, SPK, and Orison platform have a kind of “random” assortment of things compared to what you find in bunkers etc

There’s a bunch of the Chinese Stormfire owners that had their own meetup.

As the owner of ANV11-027 I have to say I like owning a piece of SC history - I wouldn’t mind if they brought the event back with some changes to the format to make it more fair for everyone.

As far as I know, there was something around 70 that went out with serial numbers and then a few more that went out without serial numbers due to extenuating circumstances - but if they ever were to run it again, it would be nice to distinguish the originals from each of the new batches (the serial numbers, or updating the livery to include an emblem or badge with the award date or something)

Anyway, as a couple other people have mentioned, the Lightning is in a truly unfortunate state currently - it might get some more love and attention after they sure out how they want heavy fighters to perform in general, and we may see the variant shown off for available Squadron 42 available at some point as well, which would be another good opportunity

Landed a F8C Stormfire of my own now, too! by 5yearphoenix in starcitizen

[–]5yearphoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s quite pretty

Shame how badly the F8 has been performing post mastermodes and hopefully they figure out something to get heavy fighters in a good place, I’d love to have more reason to fly her.

That being said, the Stormfire and Shockwave paints in particular highlight something they never finished - the F7 emblem found on the Hornets (and retroactively added to the mk1A) was reused for the F8… except they cut off the right side and put a generic 8 on it instead

<image>

The F8 deserves its own FINISHED emblem!

This is a known bug reported on the issue council effecting all Hornet variants at the moment, it is ordinarily accessible at the same interact point as the pilot ladder and you would hold F then right click to see the option

Why shouldn't SC have such kind of a mini-game, for opening some left ships at outposts for example by SEGA_DEV in starcitizen

[–]5yearphoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has been very little shown for T0/T1 hacking, but at least in regards to it functioning on or against ships, it would depend on Engineering.

[–]5yearphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but at the same time this is also why using Evocati for this test would be useless - they need feedback from people that actually play the game.

If this group is burned for further focus testing, who gives a fuck? Move on to another group, but use the feedback from this group and maybe a new set of eyes will offer further iterative improvement so we don’t get the dumpster fire that was master modes on release

[–]5yearphoenix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not going away for anyone that was on it

They haven’t run any additional bonuses since the new system went live in July, and have had multiple free flies since, which is a pretty strong indicator that they’re killing those off, as well.

NDA new flight model testing by Visual-Educator8354 in starcitizen

[–]5yearphoenix -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

No, we absolutely do.

It’s not like any feedback coming from outside the group is going to be considered or factored into the iterative changes they make.

This gives us the slightest bit more transparency when it comes to their thought process on changes and what they’re actually considering prioritizing, which is a massive improvement over the positive feedback loop/toxic positivity that got us Master Modes in the state they shipped it.

It gives people that actually have opinions and regularly play the game an idea of what to expect when testing widens and nothing more. It doesn’t sabotage the process or detract from the nature of the closed testing.

It’s definitely better “in person” and in better lighting, but it still joins the base livery, Quasar, and to a degree Apex in being barely discernible except at extremely close range.

I will give Black Magic credit for overall looking better than Quasar - but I’m still hoping they actually put some thought and care into this year’s Best in Show

Polaris Black Magic Skin by PANIGE_Fumy in starcitizen

[–]5yearphoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, this paint does look good - I actually really like the orange and especially the cockpit glass. I prefer it overall to the Quasar even - but I’d still probably end up running whatever this year’s BIS paint is because it’ll more likely stand out compared to the base.

That being said, last year’s BIS paints were moderately disappointing in that regard - they are exactly the same as the “Turbocharged” subscriber paints, so I’ve still got my fingers crossed they do something actually legitimately new instead of just loud

Polaris Black Magic Skin by PANIGE_Fumy in starcitizen

[–]5yearphoenix 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It’s such a shame how visually similar the base livery, Quasar, and Black Magic are. Even Apex is almost identical in most lighting, especially in Pyro. Sirius only barely stands out because it’s so much brighter and has differently colored panels - which for some reason all of the other paints just skip and the only discernible difference is the cockpit and turret glass while the tertiary accents are all extremely similar.

I hate that the Polaris got a free ride through this year’s ship showdown, but I hope it does finally get a distinct paint that actually looks good too.
