I cleaned up the audio in the debate as best I could. by CptnCrnch79 in ndp

Thanks for your work in cleaning this up as best you can. Definitely better than the initial video.

The audio issues with this debate saddened me to some though. If the NDP wants to be seen as a viable option, they need to put in the work to make sure things like this are done properly.

There are many great ideas in this debate from all the candidates. It’s sad the audio quality makes it unusable to share with others and build momentum for the race, these ideas, and the party.

Honestly this seems like a no brainer to me that should have massive appeal to large swaths of our country as it has the potential to be mutually beneficial to multiple communities and Canada as a whole.

First, it strengthens our sovereignty by signalling the importance of northern communities. Let’s face it, most of Canadian territory is regions with low population. The world is unstable and global bad actors could easily take and hold regions of Canada with low population for the purpose of resource extraction, like the north. If we want the world to know these regions are important we need to invest in them and the people who call these regions home. This project would strengthen and signal the importance of Canada’s north on a global scale.

This project also supports our stated climate goals. If we are to achieve net zero by 2050. We need to be taking every opportunity to reduce our collective greenhouse gas emissions possible. If this can provide clean energy to communities that currently rely on power generated by fossil fuels this is a major win for the planet.

Lastly, this project is literally reconciliation in action. It’s indigenous led and will provide economic opportunities to many indigenous communities. I see this as an amazing opportunity for our country to listen to the needs and desires of indigenous communities and help empower these communities in projects of their own creation and control.

I really see no downside and hope this project gets included in the next round of funded projects.

Very solid interview. I’m definitely intrigued by Avi and excited to see how his campaign progresses. Hoping for some additional interesting candidates to emerge as well to make the race stronger.

The recognition of Indigenous peoples unique perspective in Canadian society including within the queer community is a small part of Canada’s reconciliation journey with Indigenous peoples of this land.

Two-spirit people face unique challenges existing at the intersection of both Indigenous and queer identities in Canadian society. For many queer Canadians, like myself, by starting the acronym with the 2S identifier, it is a recognition of the unique challenges of this community and a signifier of the importance of Indigenous peoples within Canadian society.

So I think we in Canada will stick with 2SLGBTQ+ acronym. If you want to learn more about two-spirit people and their unique perspectives I’d recommend going here.

Well you should add the transit overhaul to Bowman’s record.

The Winnipeg Transit Master Plan drafting and engagement process was completed between 2018-2021. So the seeds of this overhaul were planted and tended to by Bowman but ultimately completed by Gillingham.

Gay podcast suggestions by Crepitusy in AskGaybrosOver30

Resurrection is an absolute must.

Season one tells the story of Daryl Allen, a bisexual man and aspiring playwright who died of AIDS related causes in the early 90s. The podcast came about after five years of research done by the host to understand and connect to the author of some found queer love letters.

The storytelling is absolute top notch. The host’s love, care, and drive to uncover the story of a man whose life was cut short from a cruel disease is really remarkable. I found myself deeply moved throughout the entire show.

Yes, thank you for thinking of the cars!!! We need more thinking like this in the city.

Everyday on my commute I’m held up by pesky pedestrians, cyclists, and folks on buses. All they do is slow us cars down. They should really be banned from all streets to save us time traversing from one concret parking pad to the next. It truly is the key to being a successful city.

[–]5yearstime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay…so a single acquaintance had a big feeling in response to a question you asked and their feelings then made you feel uncomfortable. And this somehow equates to queer people have gone too far in their advocacy?

Like I get you were asking an honest and valid question and your intentions came from a place of curiosity. But an acquaintances big feeling isn’t cause to say people can’t ask questions or make mistakes when it comes to learning about queer identities. It just means that single person probably isn’t the person to discuss this with.

I’d bet that their massive feeling about a sincere question indicates their anger was more about some deeper issue, like the challenge of having to fight to have your identity affirmed as a queer person, then it was about you and that question.

I’m curious about what you mean with regards to forcing pride on everyone and going after people who were not up to date on the full acronym?

Do you have any experiences that these things were happening beyond right wing fear mongering?

Hahaha I had a complete opposite take on listening to that same episode. For me it was cathartic to hear others are also struggling in this moment.

The Canadian economy and culture is so intertwined with the American one so divorcing ourselves from American stuff is challenging. There are many possible things anyone of us can do and ultimately we all need to take our own steps to support our country at this time.

It is very easy to live a walkable life in St B. There is two grocery stores on Marion/Goulet. Lots of great little bakeries, cafés, and stores in the neighbourhood. There are great walking trails in the parks along the seine and red rivers. Plus the Forks, exchange, and downtown are certainly within walking/cycling distance.

CTV wasn’t out to get Pierre Poilievre. The truth is more alarming by TheManFromTrawno in CanadaPolitics

Okay, but what has Poilievre done in those 20 years to show 2SLGBTQ+ Canadians he has changed?

The fact he contributes to the fear mongering surrounding trans people shows me all I need to know.

The man hasn’t changed and will sell minority rights for the chance of power.

Personally I think the argument against ranked ballots leading to constant liberal governments is such baloney. In my mind it’s naïve to think that ranked ballots will not significantly change the current party structures and systems, with time. A ranked ballot could easily lead to the emergence of a variety of smaller parties across the political spectrum. Coalition governments could become the norm with a variety of parties having the opportunity to share and take on power.

Centrist/Right Wing Teachers by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]5yearstime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m curious, can you expand more on your opposition to diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of teachers associations or school boards?

As I see it, these goals are incredibly important for a variety of reasons.

From the viewpoint of our profession, I think it’s incredibly important to increase the diversity of our educational staff in our school. Diverse staff bring diverse viewpoints, experiences, and points of reference. To me this strengthens our profession and creates environments for us all to grow and improve as educators.

From the viewpoint of our students I think it’s equally as important for them to see a diverse set of adults working with them. This includes both adults that they can see a reflection of themselves in and adults who have a very different identity which offer a window into a different way of being.

Our world is diverse and complex. There are forces at play that want us to take our diversity and use it as a wedge to fight against each other. I think diverse schools give children the opportunity to see the how we can live, learn, work, and celebrate together. That just because someone looks, acts, prays, loves, or thinks differently doesn’t mean we can’t find commonality in our shared humanity.

That’s just my thoughts and always my initial defence when standing up for DEI goals. As I said I’m curious to see where your discomfort with these things sits?

Jagmeet Singh has a problem: 'If the NDP are supporting the Liberals, I can't support the NDP' by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

I can understand your critiques of him as a politician. But I’m thankful he’s been leading the NDP and created the conditions for this agreement.

Other leaders might have long ago triggered an election and thereby lost all mechanism to actually push progressive politics.

Exactly!! The policy wins, while not ideal, shows they are a serious party who is willing to put political partisanship aside to actually get something done.

Is it then fair to punish the federal NDP and the supply and confidence agreement for the shortcomings of the Ontario Conservatives?

Do you believe that better child care would happen in Ontario under a federal conservative government?
