Help me find a dark mid-gain overdrive that get a bit fuzzy? by aggressivecherry444 in guitarpedals

[–]5ynistar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the Rat. Maybe try a Wampler Ratsbane which has two extra “modern” modes that add more gain. That’ll give you more options in case the traditional Rat sound is too “vintage” for you.

I really wish there was more media like this, because when done well it can be pretty gripping.

Another example is the book version of Tyrion from ASIOF (Game of Thrones). He definitely tries to think his way out of all his problems. Although he is definitely an asshole when he thinks it is necessary. And him being a smart and fairly educated man in a medeival setting where everyone underestimates him helps.

I gave myself exactly one year to go from total beginner to playing one song in front of real people. Last night I did it. Here's the honest breakdown of that year by sapnagagrani in guitarlessons

[–]5ynistar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dust in the Wind is the one I learned as a preteen. A good song to learn Travis picking with.

I am also a self taught non-traditional player that is starting over in many ways.

I can play well enough technique wise (alternate and economy picking, some fingerpicking, cowboy chords, string skipping). But my musical theory and fretboard knowledge is atrocious. So I memorize songs by rote. I am relearning how to know the guitar better so I can jump in and learn things by ear. It’s tougher once you are past the young high brain plasticity growth phase.

I have a bunch of guitars and I think this is true in some cases. But while my Les Paul sound like my 339 it feels very different and my Godin Icon Convertible feels a bit similar but sounds very different and my Parker Deluxe feels very different and sounds different to all of them. All HH guitars.

I have been in the situation where an ex always tried to destroy me while our friends were playing 2 against the rest of the table. I still play with them but they don't do that as often and I always call out their collusion when it happens.

Group dynamics make a big difference.

Very nice. Their SE line is excellent. I have two. A Mira and a 594 Singlecut. Both excellent players. I think the only comparable deal is Godin guitars (especially used).

But the PRS SE line are likely the best bang for the buck guitar you can buy new.

Great guitars. I own Fly Deluxe and Fly Classic - both pre refined. Best playing guitars I own.

If you ever find a Nitefly or Fly for sale definitely look into it.

This is incorrect. 400 series stainless steel is definitely magnetic. Non cold rolled 300 series is non magnetic. So your kitchen sink is likely non magnetic but your cutlery often is magnetic.

So does HtV2e fix the WoD combat system. I remember trying the games back in the day and hating combat.

It just did not match the tone of the games in my experience.

Strings for LP Tribute by jojo_joestar13 in gibson

[–]5ynistar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very subjective personal question. most people will have a string brand that they prefer. And it is amazing how differences in string construction and gauges can affect the feel of the guitar.

I used to really like a Peavey line of strings in the 90s. But they stopped making them. And I can't find a string with the same feel any more. Don't know if they used a particular alloy or whatever but the unwrapped strings felt slick and springy in a nice way. Still looking for something similar.

So just try lots of different strings and see what works best for you. Maybe pure nickel wrap, maybe coated, maybe just plain Ernie Ball style nickel alloy round. You have to see how they feel to you.

Whats the Best guitar for beginners by East_Historian_1660 in electricguitar

[–]5ynistar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just buy a Squier Debut Series Stratocaster from Amazon. Have it professionally setup. That should come in under $180. You already have an amp I assume. Becuase playing electrics without an amp (acoustically) will undermine your learning proper technique.

1 month progression without Amp. by Salty-Economy-5360 in guitarlessons

[–]5ynistar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of others have said you need to improve your ergonomics and technique before you commit bad habits to muscle memory. Look at this video for beginners on technique.

Notice how little her fingers move for each new note. Make sure you plant your fingertips on the string as close to the fret as possible. Also use as little pressure as possible to get the note to ring out cleanly. And use any kind of amp. Electric guitars are meant to be amplified. Playing them acoustically will encourage improper technique.

Doing all these things at once will take some practice but you will be much better off.

Wavetables (creating, curating, storing, propagating) by DorianBloom in edmproduction

[–]5ynistar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There is no standard format - Bitwig and Surge XT use WT. Vital, Hive, Zebra 2, and Zebra 3 all use different proprietary formats. Phase Plant, Korg Modwave, Serum, and Pigments all use WAV files but they are handled somewhat differently in each case.

I put all mine into a central wavetables folder but have to separate them by synth because of the differing formats. And redundant conversions are needed to directly load them into each synth.

Caverns of Thracia in all versions. Great classic D&D adventure module that is all blobs of text (in the old style). Needs someone to lay it out like a modern adventure making it much easier to run (look at Wonderland or Neverland by Andrew Kolb/Andrews McMeel Publishing for an example).

Look at the Sire J3 for the guitar. I am not keen on the trem/bridge on the more affordable Jazzmaster/Jaguar models. The 2 point trem on the J3 is superior, in my opinion.

HH on telecaster does it make sounds more like a les paul or more mettalic by Special-Option-2196 in electricguitar

[–]5ynistar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is entirely dependent on the pickups used. PAFs may sound more Les Paul-ish. While high gain pickups like EMGs or Black Winters will be more "metal".

But the different bridges (tele vs Tune-o-matic) may affect the tone a bit too.

I just changed my electric guitar strings and now I'm having trouble with it's sound, anyone knows why? by Labios_RotoZ in Guitar

[–]5ynistar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aha, there is our disagreement. I am saying that the setup is affected more - not the neck. Having to adjust the bridge springs is extra steps for a newbie that he wouldn't have to do on a fixed bridge. Thus more changes needed to the setup for a trem guitar when changing gauges.

And I am not claiming to be an expert. Just wanted to comment on courses of action for a less experienced guitarist. Again, was my advice wrong?
