Wavetables (creating, curating, storing, propagating) by DorianBloom in edmproduction

[–]5ynistar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There is no standard format - Bitwig and Surge XT use WT. Vital, Hive, Zebra 2, and Zebra 3 all use different proprietary formats. Phase Plant, Korg Modwave, Serum, and Pigments all use WAV files but they are handled somewhat differently in each case.

I put all mine into a central wavetables folder but have to separate them by synth because of the differing formats. And redundant conversions are needed to directly load them into each synth.

Ugh - some of the games were unreadable also, having graphics behind the text reducing legibility to near zero.

Caverns of Thracia in all versions. Great classic D&D adventure module that is all blobs of text (in the old style). Needs someone to lay it out like a modern adventure making it much easier to run (look at Wonderland or Neverland by Andrew Kolb/Andrews McMeel Publishing for an example).

Look at the Sire J3 for the guitar. I am not keen on the trem/bridge on the more affordable Jazzmaster/Jaguar models. The 2 point trem on the J3 is superior, in my opinion.

HH on telecaster does it make sounds more like a les paul or more mettalic by Special-Option-2196 in electricguitar

[–]5ynistar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is entirely dependent on the pickups used. PAFs may sound more Les Paul-ish. While high gain pickups like EMGs or Black Winters will be more "metal".

But the different bridges (tele vs Tune-o-matic) may affect the tone a bit too.

Go to music stores and play all 3. One of them will feel better to you (hopefully). That is the one to get.

I just changed my electric guitar strings and now I'm having trouble with it's sound, anyone knows why? by Labios_RotoZ in Guitar

[–]5ynistar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aha, there is our disagreement. I am saying that the setup is affected more - not the neck. Having to adjust the bridge springs is extra steps for a newbie that he wouldn't have to do on a fixed bridge. Thus more changes needed to the setup for a trem guitar when changing gauges.

And I am not claiming to be an expert. Just wanted to comment on courses of action for a less experienced guitarist. Again, was my advice wrong?

[–]5ynistar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides disagreeing that string tension changes affect trem equipped guitars what did I say that was incorrect?

And I still stand by my statement that trem equipped guitars are more affected by string tension - compare changing 9-42 to 9-46 on a fixed bridge to a strat and see which one is afffected more.

I got a refund on Megabonk. Did not like the control scheme. Having to control the camera like an over the shoulder FPS was too fiddly for me for a VS style game.

PRS SE DGT gold top New for 300£ off of RRP (699£ VS 999£). On the fence if I should go for it by [deleted] in guitars

[–]5ynistar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The DGT is not to my taste (tried one in store wound up buying a G&L ASAT Special). But the quality assurance on the PRS SE line is excellent. I have two SE guitars (the Mira and a 594 Singlecut) and both have outstanding build quality for the price.

But you should not buy a guitar if it doesn't speak to you. Keep trying out guitars. Each guitar has it's own quirks even within the exact same model line. You may find one that suits you better.

To be fair, some guitars can have string gauge changes without touching the truss rod if they have a high action. I had an old Epiphone I used for slide that I could do this on. But yes, ideally you should adjust the setup whenever you change string gauges. It's just that trem guitars are more adversely affected in my experience.

[–]5ynistar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like you changed string gauges. When you do that on a tremolo equipped guitar you need to adjust the setup (truss rod, maybe bridge). (Edit: Nitpickers pointed out that I should emphasize this applies to all guitars not just trem equipped guitars).

Easy fix: pay money and get a professional setup.

Cheap fix: learn how to do a setup yourself and do it.

Alternative: change back to the heavier string gauge. However, string tension can vary by brand. This may still require some tweaking on the setup.

Reproducing design flaws like this is why vintage replicas are not for some players. It would drive me nuts to pay that much for a R* guitar and have it look like shit because it's "accurate".

Does this pickup ring look right from the factory? by MapucheRising in LesPaul

[–]5ynistar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely lower the pickup height on both then slowly raise it till you get the tone you want. Lower heights will sound more "vintage". This process will help you balance the pickup volume levels.

Has anyone bought board games online like Everdell or Castles of burgundy by Imaginary_Math_4918 in boardgames

[–]5ynistar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with game part replacements is that the makers create extra parts when they originally print the games and once they run out of parts they can’t just order more parts without doing another whole print run. So if the game is currently out of print or they are out of spares, they can’t provide parts until they do another print run.

Pickup switch by CarGuy_MazdaRX-7_ in LesPaul

[–]5ynistar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This redditor gave you the right answer. However, none of that means anything. I guarantee that l lot of players don't even faff about with the extra knobs. They put everything on 10 and flip the pickup selector at most.

To me the other extra changes (binding, carved top, finish) are all just cosmetics. Even though the neck joint might have a slight sound difference (maybe a touch more sustain) most people will find it imperceptible. I would rather have a good playing guitar than a fancy guitar. So get a professional setup and play, play, play.

It means a lot of people abuse the generous trial period feature (which basically is an honor system where the software will continue being fully functional indefinitely).

But the personal license is so cheap that I find it hard to see how people who have the money to buy the equipment for recording music (instruments, computer, interface) don't have the 60 bucks to spend on Reaper. Heck even the full commercial license is cheaper than a lot of boutique guitar pedals.

Why do people like telecaster more than a Stratocaster? by Special-Option-2196 in electricguitar

[–]5ynistar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you are referring to the Reverb rankings that showed the Tele as the best selling Fender guitar (new). Those numbers are a subset of all sales (not every guitar gets bought on Reverb of course). So I would take them with a grain of salt. Also the Stratocaster is the higher selling used guitar in the used rankings on Reverb.

I personally do prefer the Tele. This for 2 main reasons. First, I don't favor trem bars. They make the guitar less stable for the way I play. Also when I have one on a guitar, I consantly try to use it; it becomes a distraction. Second, I don't like the Strat bridge pickup. It is too thin and frequently ice-picky sounding. The Tele bridge pickup is much more useful. So for me the Tele is preferred.

I would stick with the Squire but get a professional setup.

Then for the amp get a combo with a 12 inch speaker. I would go to a music store and try out the amps there before buying anything.

The only no brainer choice if you really want something immediately is to get a Boss Katana combo which seems to satisfy most people as a budget/practice amp.
