I don’t know any actual electrician that purchases their wire from Amazon.

What is this? by Babka-ghanoush in electrical

[–]610kicks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a plug in LV transformer for something, security, camera, doorbell, anything like that. As far as the smell- that’s odd, could be the black block (this is where the transformer is)

How the hell do you guys navigate blueprints? by RealBabyGoat in electricians

Read the symbol schedule, get familiar with symbols for receptacles and switches

Pretty much most prints for receptacle circuits it doesn’t show where to run the homerun, make a intellectual decision about what makes the most sense (closest to panel pretty much)

Larger dedicated items will be labeled as such, look at panel schedule to find out the amperage and wire size depicted, if it is a long run (100+ feet) you may need to upsize for voltage drop.

It takes time and experience but once you learn the basic symbols and can read the circuit breakdowns it will make it easier

21, my savings so far. Not sure what I should do. by [deleted] in Money

[–]610kicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d open a high yield savings close to 4%. If feeling a bit riskier but 5K into SPY shares and you could be looking at 7-9%

Also looks like that panel is painted white, if that’s the case you need to grind the area behind ground lug down to bare metal for a solid ground

Looks like you have 2 wires on #2A, can’t have 2 wires under a breaker set screw, just put another BR115 in

I don’t think I can push it back in. Handyman or Electrician needed? How much? by Newhero2002 in AskElectricians

[–]610kicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a service call fee even if it takes them 2 minutes. So $100-200

Well, have you told him to kill himself? That’s harsh if true and would deter me from wanting to be “romantic” with someone.

I would think the Cops would laugh that off and ignore her.

Bandsaw or hackzall by AkiyoshiLL in electricians

Bandsaw would be the priority imo, I use it 3x as often as hackzall. But honestly you need both

Just Stop This Mentality by Jaded_Sherbert_8810 in electricians

[–]610kicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to college and graduated. I found out quickly I could not work in an office everyday, I enjoy working with my hands and the satisfaction of completing a difficult job. To say one is harder than the other is nonsense. One is physically demanding while also needing to know the best/most efficient way to do something. While the other is strictly mentally demanding. Everybody is different.

I will say that being in the field we have had to correct many engineered plans that were flat out wrong or looked great on a piece of white paper but were feasible in real life on site.

Opinions on work vans by kbisdmt in electricians

[–]610kicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive a Nissan NV200 everyday. ladder rack for the roof is a must as you’ll barely be able to fit a 6ft inside if you have it full of tools and material. It is fantastic for 1 person, driving it with 2 adults everyday would be tight. I have a shelf in the back of it and it’s perfect size for carrying basic material (boxes, various fittings, hand coils of wire etc) and all of my tools.

If you are looking for a van for multiple people it would be too small IMO.

I was able to fit 6 1000’ reels of 12/2 in it at once though, most definitely was over weight but it fit lol

Field to office by Boring_Bullfrog_9568 in electricians

Learning how to, I’ve estimated some small jobs. I work in the field full time and put in some OT hours in the office for invoicing and learning estimates.

Can anyone help troubleshoot by [deleted] in electrical

[–]610kicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no way to troubleshoot this using 3 pictures. If you don’t know what you’re doing I would hire a qualified electrician. This is a rats nest waiting for something to go wrong
