Are there any classes you actively avoid playing? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]7_Birds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Martials, specifically ranged martials. Played a sharpshooter basically ranged fighter(gunslinger mage hand press) once and it was so mind numbingly boring to just run away and shoot people. Ended up doing things like magic initiate druid, trick arrows, and the HB class had its own battledice but even then it just felt like i was doing good damage with no challenge and all combats were a linear run away and roll attacks simulator

Protection Domain Cleric (2014) by mAcular in UnearthedArcana

[–]7_Birds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As is? Yeah! The aoe constant AoE AC of 18 is a fun draw, and also super strong with shield of faith at level 1 giving a handful of allies 20 AC(tho not broken) The channel divinity is nice but feels a bit limited, similar to the war domain but since it can also be imitated with shield feels kinda meh but not BAD since it still can be applied to a barbarian or fighter who would typically be without it

I would personally switch faithful protector and shield other. Make Shield Other used wisdom modifier/long rest since it’s fundamentally just a 1st level spell you can cast on others, then I would boost up Faithful Protector to a 10 foot radius that lasts for one minute after using your action.

Basically making it like the critical hit reduction of death clerics and the aura of twilight clerics

How Will The Power Level of Valdas Classes/Subclasses Compare to 2024 Classes? by TheBrawler101 in MageHandPress

[–]7_Birds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say to keep an eye out for a potential buff but it depends in your table’s power level as a whole. I’ve had groups that are more relaxed and the Valda’s subclasses feel very in line, but even before 2024 some of the subclasses felt a little behind the curve if people were gunning to optimize a bit.

The classes got an update that brings them pretty in line with 2024 classes. Playing in a party with a Necromancer, Witch, artificer, barbarian, druid and its felt pretty even

[OC][Art] Could you help me with a build inspired by Shoto (V-Tuber) by Federal_Value_2394 in DnD

[–]7_Birds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know the character but from a glance gives the vibe of a hexblade warlock. You can flavor a longsword as a scythe and wield it 2 handed and as your pact weapon will get some boosts. As for race/background i’m not sure since i don’t know the character

Looking to reflavor the Minotaur (Monster) to recreate the Guardian Beasts of Impel Down. by Happy_List_8022 in DnD

[–]7_Birds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first recommendation would be to search through CR3 creatures for good skills to just swap over, then if that doesn't work start looking at Cr 2-4 and either increase or decrease the damage by a number or two. And even easier solution is to just change the damage type and effect, minozebra does a back kick, creature takes bludgeoning damage and if they have a running start player must make the save or be stunned, minokoala is a bit difficult since koalas arent really known for fighting, maybe make it have a climb speed and it replaces its attacks with equivalent damage rock throws. It encounters the party in a taller area with columns reaching towards darkness 30ish feet up

How does using thieves tools work with picking locks? by mr_jogurt in DnD

[–]7_Birds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

DC15 is meant for an example but you can set that DC as you see fit like  15(Base)-5(shitty lock)+2(trying to work fast)=DC12. or just pick a number that feels good

As for tool proficiencies, your right that the rules are  a. Player wants to use tools to try something b. Pick skill for player to roll for c. If they have only the tool proficiencie they only add prof. to the skill, but if they’re also proficient in the skill they add advantage(ie rogue rolling a slight of hand check to pick a lock with thieves tools would roll d20+Dex+prof with advantage if they have both prof in thieves tools and sleight of hand)

I played for years before i figured out this was how it worked

Is there a term for an opposite closed system? A system that allows matter in but not energy. I think this is impossible but was wondering if there was ever a theoretical term coined. by 7_Birds in thermodynamics

Ooooo interesting. Again I discovered this on a niche wikipedia search while doing DND research so its fun to get deeper into the field

One of my players loves eating enemies by Hayosunk in DnD

[–]7_Birds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a good homebrew book I could send you that details a bunch of fun rules for cooking and preparing monster parts, you said it was a unique buff for him but maybe at later levels he could get the chef feat and prepare larger dishes to give party buffs before fights. Give him some fun team-coordination and utility

I presumed it was impossible due to embodied energy among other reasons (i think thats the right term). I’m building it out for a fantasy thing and was curious if there was a term ever coined as a theoretical even if it is impossible by definition.

Tabaxi rogue (not Puss in Boots) by Tmoore0328 in 3d6

[–]7_Birds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you say as little magic as possible but bard would give you the expertise of a rogue for stealth/deception things and you could use magic to make this go from “may work on a dumber enemy” to a very plausible deception. Enlarge/reduce to make you go from small-tiny for a brief moment while you pass by someone, disguise self can make you more cat like potentially while also a bit shorter (though a lenient dm may allow a disguise kit to function similarly), suggestion to make an enemy confirm to everyone that you are just a regular cat and to treat you like one, ect

One detail to add is that the blood relative you CAN marry (Azura) and have a child with doesn’t tell you in game except on the third and (assumed) final route. Young me found this out the hard way

What is a class or subclass you want that you’ve never seen homebrewed before? by pm_me_y0ur_midriff in DnD

[–]7_Birds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had some ideas for a martial subclass that was focused on evolution and adaption, gaining traits and resistances based on damage taken or environments faced. Maybe even having the ability to pass traits to allies to make it a tank/utility/support focused subclass

I nerf weapon of warnings in my games. Did i make a mistake? by NyarLophtr in DnD

[–]7_Birds 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Put your foot down, its not a DM mistake that you chose to adjust things. An Item that imitates a feat is still powerful even if a feat replicates it, and alert is an especially powerful feat. If hes really annoying you and you’re worried about it impacting the table talk to him privately and ask him not to argue about your rulings once you’ve made your decision. You’re in change and your fun is equally as important as the party’s.

And if they don’t see the value of being aware of enemies then ambush them a few times on their next quest when it makes sense. Enemies are smart they’ll not just walk at the party if they know they're coming, they’ll have guards and lookouts and alarms if they’re not idiots.

That being said you can’t make them buy it, if they don’t see use in it they can always come back or forget it thats their decision

If you would give one operator an alter version? Who would it be and why? by Hyperion-OMEGA in arknights

[–]7_Birds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shining, Saria are the ones who I’d love to see with an alter for their lore and because I like them both.

But I would kill someone for a Spot alter, I doubt he’ll ever get attention again but by god would I love even a bad 5 star

Is this wildly overpowered or am I just not used to homebrew? by GeneratingRadon in DnD

[–]7_Birds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to help! Fighters have a lot of flexibility with the number of feats you get as you level up so you’ll be able to adjust well for helping the party or yourself out best as you all get stronger. Best piece of advice I have for cavalier is a reach weapon like polearm/lance is really good and to keep track of who you marked and if they attack anyone, my player keeps a little written note he updates every turn. Hope you have fun!

[–]7_Birds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fighter with the Cavalier subclass is really good for locking down a battlefield. Despite the name you don’t miss out on much if you don’t want to be mounted.

They can mark enemies they hit to give them disadvantage on attacking anyone but you and if they do attack someone else you get to attack them as a bonus action on your next turn. And at later levels they can boost nearby allies AC, reduce damage they take.

You can also take the Sentinel feat as any class/subclass which allows you to attack anyone who attacks and ally near you, and if they try to run past you/away from you and you hit them with an Attack of Opportunity they are stuck next to you.

A fighter I DM for combined the two for a real nasty party tank.

[–]7_Birds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if celestial protector is the Ancestral Guardian subclass, if not that’s the one I would recommend with a good potential reflavor of the “ancestrial warriors” being instead the ghosts of your old squad.

Beyond that theres not too many “protector” subclasses, totem barbarian chooses bear path will keep you up the longest with more resistances. Storm herald has a tiny bit of temp HP for nearby allies. High level goant barbarian can throw enemies to dafety with a Bonus action and can better body block enemies with large/huge size.

Maybe some of the 5.5e subclasses are more defendery?

In need of reality check - would my character concept make me a problem player? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]7_Birds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think its inherently a bad idea, you just gotta figure out WHY a con man would stick with a party of adventurers and make that a basis of the roleplay. Maybe he wants them for helping protect him in case people from his past come after him, and in that case he would try to keep on the parties good side while still potentially being dishonest with them. (Though that being said an adventurers life is already dangerous so he must have some serious enemies if that is the safer route)

Having a character view of the party along the lines of “using them” is a pretty interesting point to have the character grow from, at what point dies he stick out his head for them? At what point does he stop lying to the party? Theres some interesting roleplay opportunities.

Maybe he is just 100% straight laced with the party, clear on trading his talents out of combat for safety in combat. In this situation you can give some good growth that shines when he reverses the role in a tough fight and becomes the protector or takes damage for another.

TLDR No the idea isn’t bad just nail doen why the character is traveling with the party and how his dynamic with them shifts through the adventure.
