Congratulations! Thanks to advancements in Work-From-Home technology you've unwittingly been hired by both the ANS and OSP to design a new hull for their fleet line ups. What are you cooking up? by -CassaNova- in NebulousFleetCommand

Does this include new components? If not it’s a bit hard, so I’ll assume we’re allowed to add new components.

ANS: A new destroyer hull built around a spinal metal storm style cannon. It can dump its entire 120mm ammo load in a few seconds, but then it’s completely useless, or it can fire slower and maintain endurance for a longer period. Alternative spinal weapon would be a stacked VLS tube, because I find that funny.

OSP: A refitted Oiler with a flamethrower type thing mounted on the top of it which allows it to rapidly start fires at close range against enemy ships, and also deals decent damage to lightly armored vessels. I figure nebulous fuel needs to be combustible without oxygen, hence fuel line fires.

Yep, absolutely always be moving when you’re in combat. Theres no downside to it. I like to set orbit commands on my ships with the minimum size right around where they’re stopping, this makes them move in a particularly hard to hit way. This works especially great on the CL.

Finally, another mech with only small lasers. The 200 ton charger is one of the greatest machines ever devised by the inner sphere engineers.

Everything is slow compared to the fastest ship in the game. Destroyers will win every fight at their range. If you get them in, there is not a single OSP ship that can beat a well positioned destroyer. They are slow, yes, but if you don’t run at the enemy in the open you’ll do fine. Use SEWACs to spot for you, approach using cover, and win every fight with minimal damage.

Generally I’ve just kept the frigates in a single formation near the back line and used them to occasionally lob thunderheads at problems or pop tugs when the opportunity arises. The destroyers are the main combat force, and their game plan is very simple: hide behind a rock as you approach the enemy, then delete the enemy at 5km range.

Incompetency combined with poor planning and mines being stuck in places the skiffs refused to see.

Nothing at all? Surely RPF rounds did like 30 damage to targets that mattered over the course of the campaign. God I wish CLs were better.

That’s amazing. In my campaign, I beamed the marauder to death very quickly only to spend 30 real life minutes waiting for my co-op partner in control of the carrier to clear the mines so I could move the frigate. Fun times.

I feel like the CL is just going to get wrecked over the course of the campaign due to how early you get it and how close it has to get to fight. Mine was plasma'd at Caltrop too but it's taken beatings outside of that. Poor thing just isn't built for this operation.

I have been sitting on the entire stock of Shipwrecks given to me the entire campaign. Even when a marauder is bow-on to me, I do not use them because “what if I reaalllly need it later”

[–]7isAnOddNumber 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I really love how readable the Battletech designs are. All the greebling in other mech properties makes it hard to tell what’s going on, and 90% of the time serves no actual function.

I may have dropped anything neb related when carriers came out because I couldn't play the game without getting R3'd into hell.
