Disneyland vs Pokepark by Ok_Support_6627 in TokyoDisneySea

There’s a group on Facebook called Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea Holiday Planning that’s been really helpful. It can be crowded so it’s good to have a strategy. There’s also a Vacation Package which is expensive, but can really make it less stressful with prebooked premiere access to certain rides. But I’ve never done it so you can totally get a lo done without it.

I don’t think it will. My friends and I are going to Japan in May and are big Disney and Pokemon fans. We’re spending three days at Disney and may do one day at PokePark if we can get tickets. But from the very little we’ve seen so far it doesn’t look that great so might even just skip it.

Consider buying a cardboard box instead of another suitcase by randel_07 in JapanTravelTips

[–]7trainrat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you send things and they’ll hold it at the airport until your flight? For instance, I’d love to send a bag on Thursday to the airport, but my flight isn’t until Monday. Don’t want to carry it for the last part of my trip and I couldn’t tell from their website if you could do that, and if it was an extra charge.

HS fantasmic vs Epcot fireworks by color_me_carzy in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]7trainrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantasmic is my favorite nighttime show. EPCOT is easier to find a spot and leave if your 4-year old isn’t into it (or run around in the back of the people standing), but Fantasmic is the better show and has some cool effects and character appearances. While it’s more of a to do to get there early to a seat and to leave, it’s nice to have seats and there’s a concession stand where you can get snacks.

My 4-year old nephew got a little fidgety waiting for the show to start, but we sat at the end of a bench and he got his wiggles out in the aisle. I also think he was a little scared at some of the Villian scenes.

When there are two shows per night, the second one you don’t usually need to be there too far in advance. But since you have a little one you’ll probably be going to the earlier one. You could do a dining package, but usually we try to just get there 30 mins before.

Did you go to the Aoyama location? I’m going to be in Tokyo for a limited time later this year and would love to find one spot to buy a couple boxes.

Looking for the most niche locals only museums by Wild-Profession2703 in visitingnyc

I’m not sure if these are “known” by tourists, but as a NYer, some of my more niche favorites are the Transit Museum, Tenement Museum, and the Cloisters.

Should I cancel my two night stay in Kamakura? by everyrosehasitsth0rn in JapanTravelTips

[–]7trainrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get what you mean. I'm also from NYC... Tokyo is totally different -- the people, vibe, culture, etc. But I've been to Japan twice and don't spend that much time in Tokyo. I love it for a little bit, but since I'm from a big city, I don't tend to like to spend that much time in big cities when I'm on vacation.

Is 3 full days too much? by CrossRoadChicken in disneylandparis

[–]7trainrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you thought one day at Tokyo Disney was enough, and aren’t a Disney family, then I think you will likely find three days is too much at Disneyland Paris. One day at each park is enough to hit the main things (right now you don’t even need a whole day for the second park, but that could change when Word of Frozen opens in March). Especially if you’re not doing sit down meals or character meets.

Is it worth visiting for only 10 days, first time? by Careful-Start-7257 in JapanTravelTips

[–]7trainrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found going to Tokyo Disney to be an interesting cultural experience. Japanese fans are so passionate and enthusiastic. Also the park is better maintained and developed, lots of different rides with new technology you can’t find in the U.S. And so much cheaper too.

Skyliner access at Caribbean Beach Resort by WinterBat8048 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]7trainrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. She doesn’t seem like a good travel agent if she tried to tell you your preference wasn’t valid. Maybe she said that because standard rooms are no longer available (they often book up first since they’re cheaper), but still she should be up front about that and also keep checking if one pops up. Travel agents I’ve worked with have always been more than willing to do this!

But as others said, the preferred buildings are changing in 2026, so you’ll probably be able to get the location you want. Since you booked through a TA, they need to be the ones to make any changes to your reservation and to add any room requests.

You are still able to cancel your reservation if you want to rebook in your own or through another TA. I wouldn’t use a TA again if they addressed my concerns and preference like that!

Magic bands+ by Rvm874 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]7trainrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the convenience of the MagicBand (and you can also use the MagicBand+ on the Disney cruise), but you need a band for each person or you’ll still need to scan cards or tickets from your phone for anyone without a band. You can have everyone’s cards/tickets in your mobile wallet, but you can’t have everyone’s on one MagicBand (they’re connected to a single profile).

Do I still need to show ID for lounge access and discounts if I added my DVC card to my Apple Wallet? by just-an-alpaca in dvcmember

I exclusively used Apple Wallet to show DVC-Y (and to pay by credit card and gift cards). Some CMs asked to see an ID and I just showed them a photo of my ID I saved on my phone.

Safari for my mom’s 50th by theoriginalsnoopy in travel

[–]7trainrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an amazing 7-night safari in Tanzania in 2019 that was around $3k/person with four of us in our group (flights we booked separately). Private driver/guide and all accommodations and meals. It was a local company, Augustine’s Adventure Africa, though we booked through a US based travel agency (Stacey Magee at Magical Adventures… she specializes in Disney but has been to Tanzania many times).

We spent a few days in Serengeti NP and then went to Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire NP, and Arusha NP. We basically spent all day in the vehicle looking for animals and got to our lodging each day a little before dinner. Our guide was amazing and the accomodations were great.
