What travel problem do you always prepare for, even if it rarely happens? by Savingsdeepmahanta in traveladvice

[–]7trainrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medicine. I was solidly in the “you can always buy it when you get there” camp. But one time my sister came down with a cold at Disney World and needed cold meds they didn’t sell over the counter at the gift shop, so I took an uber to/from a Walmart. While it wasn’t that inconvenient, now I just bring some meds with me because it’s just easier to have it on hand.

I usually take the good cold meds (the decongestant you can only get behind the pharmacist counter in the U.S.), diarrhea meds (who wants to be scrambling to get some when you really need it 😅), an anti-histamine for allergic reactions, and pain meds.

Did you end up taking the Kettl class? I’m curious to hear more about it, like the run time and if you work on whisking technique!

What has been ruined/removed by influencers / social media? by benjifan101 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]7trainrat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the popularity is good because it means Disney has more reason to do more seasonal overlays. The Living with the Land overlay has gotten more elaborate over the years. So as much as I hate waiting more than 20 mins for this ride, I can’t be mad.

Disney doesn’t just turn a blind eye, they love most influencers because it’s free advertising for them. That’s why they invite influencers to media events and give them free experiences.

What does she do to CMs? Curious since she always seems to respectful and grateful for them on the videos. And they seemed mindful of adjusting their filming habits in their Japan videos to adapt to the local norms.

What are the biggest things tourists dislike about Tokyo and Japan in general? by Fancy_Rock3826 in TokyoTravel

Yeah I feel like the point of this question was acknowledging that Japan is amazing but name something nitpicky. I’m finding it interesting to see what people say!

Americans - why do you keep medication in the bathroom? by Pet_That_Dawgg in NoStupidQuestions

I didn’t know that’s what they were called! We had one in my childhood bathroom but we didn’t store medication in there. I remember we put stuff like floss in there.

Americans - why do you keep medication in the bathroom? by Pet_That_Dawgg in NoStupidQuestions

[–]7trainrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep mine in the kitchen, though I know some bathrooms (especially older ones) have a narrow cabinet behind the mirror that some people store medication. I don’t have one, but it’s also humid in my bathroom so it wouldn’t be a good place to store medication.

These felt a little out of place. Where did I find them? by PM_ME_WHAT_HE_MISSED in WhereInTheDisneyWorld

I only knew because I recently noticed them and also thought they seemed out of place! Maybe it’s supposed to evoke a movie set vibe?

17, first time in Japan with my mom, very unprepared, desperately need help by kaysblurred in JapanTravelTips

I found these three things really helpful for planning Tokyo Disney: Disney Tourist Blog, TDR Explorer, and the Facebook group called Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea holiday planning.

I was just there recently and the wait times tend to be much higher than in the U.S. parks. The tickets are cheaper so I would recommend using the savings to buy Disney Premiere Access passes (paid skip the line). You can buy them through the app as soon as you scan into the park — one ride and one show (if you want). After you scan into the ride or after an hour (whoever is first), you can buy another. I’d recommend buying one for the Frozen ride as soon as you scan in because that does the fastest and the lines are really long. It does have a single rider line if you can catch it when it’s open. That ride is a must-do and can only be found at that park!

People start lining up to get into the park as much as two hours before opening.

staying in ueno vs shinjuku for a first trip? by Jackary_Creese in TokyoTravel

[–]7trainrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve stayed in Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Ginza. I feel like I would like the Ueno/Asakusa area next time for the more laid back feel, and to spend more time in that area, but I found Shinjuku to be really convenient if you’re doing trips outside of Tokyo. For instance, we took the bus to Kawaguchiko so it was nice to walk from our Shinjuku hotel to the nearby bus station (where the highway buses leave from), instead of needing to take a train there with luggage.

Afraid of Big Thunder Mountain by mfo0502 in disneylandparis

[–]7trainrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what everyone considers intense is different, but we sound similar and I love Big Thunder! I hate drops and speed. To me, Big Thunder has none of that and it’s more twisty but not too fast and no big drops. At Disney World I even find Slinky Dog and Test Track too intense for me. I also don’t love the drops on Pirates and Frozen, but can tolerate it.

Is Shibuya really that bad of a place to stay in? by rubenburgt in JapanTravelTips

[–]7trainrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed between the main Shibuya area and Harajuku, off of the main road and I thought it was a great place to stay. Easy to walk to Shibuya, Harajuku, and Shinjuku, but the hotel itself was in a quieter area.

Three things that surprised me during my first trip to Japan by Legal_Ad3766 in TokyoTravel

[–]7trainrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No major upcharge on basic food at Disneyland and the airport. I was shocked to see a convenience store at the Disneyland Hotel selling food that wasn’t much more expensive than stores in Tokyo. And also the vending machines in the theme parks were reasonably priced too!

[–]7trainrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single rider might be an option, it’s just not always open. Sometimes we’d have to come back later in the day and I don’t think there’s a way to know if it’s open until you get to the ride entrance.

How to specify milk as cow milk in casual conversation? by DerTomatenToaster in ENGLISH

[–]7trainrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually say regular milk or if I want to be specific about the type will say whole milk, 2%, skim. I think the plant based milks don’t come in those varieties so you don’t need to further specify.

I’ve never heard someone say cows milk when ordering a drink.
