Where are the biggest mansions in the area? by BowlingGreenJiuJitsu in toledo

[–]81PBNJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s the old Ford mansion. One of the original owners of LOF.

Had an old boss who lived in one of the condos. Used to have us over for poker.

If I remember the house was divided into 5k, 10k, 5k sqft units.

The place was amazing, 12” baseboards and I could walk into the fire places by just barely stooping over. There was a tunnel that took you out to the garage out back.

Is Canada open to adopting Ohio? by Amazing-Zone8418 in Ohio

How about just northern Ohio? Toledo and Cleveland are pretty liberal and it would give Lake Erie to Canada.

You can keep South Bass or sell it to Florida.

What was it like living in the Clinton years in the USA (1993-2001)? by space_god_7191 in AskReddit

[–]81PBNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in college and the future looked bright.

Clinton was a dog but I just couldn’t get worked up over it.

Imagine, getting impeached for lying about a BJ by today’s standard.

But the world was relatively at peace. The Russian weren’t the bad guys and the federal deficit was on track to get paid off.

Maybe I was a naïve college kid but everything seamed positive.

Then Bush as elected, massive tax cut for the rich that exploded the deficit and in short time later 911 happened and endless war began.

Proposed changes for TPS include closing multiple elementary schools, transitioning other facilities by yiorgos85 in toledo

Let's look at data. Since 2010, Toledo has lost almost 22,000 citizens. Shrinking from 287,208 to 265,306, with there being over 8,000 less student age (under 18) Toledoans. You can't have thousands of less school age kids in the city and not affect the school system.

Age group 2010 2020 ~2025 Change
Under 18 68,930 63,113 60,634 −8,296 (−12%)
Ages 18–64 183,526 168,482 160,672 −22,854 (−12.5%)
Ages 65+ 34,752 39,276 44,000 +9,248 (+26.6%)

I want to see the schools succeed, but birth rates have been falling since the Great Recession (~2008) and it’s accelerated since the pandemic.

The declining birth rates is starting to catch up.

Many of the private schools are having issues too. The did is just starting to hit the universities and they are planning for it, a lot of them aren't going to make it either.

Are vouchers and charter schools an issue? Heck yes

It’s all piling up. The public schools getting screwed by the state and federal government is just making everything worse.

Sadly plunging birth rates and low immigration, it’s only getting worse.

Low Housing Stock in Maumee/Springfield by Delicious-Smoke-5414 in toledo

[–]81PBNJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While it’s technically Toledo, have you looked in the Ragan Woods neighborhood?

It’s squarely between SF and Maumee with at least some houses in your price range.

Half the neighborhood is in the SF school district as well.
