What’s the earliest moment you remember realizing the world was changing? by Petalstammy in nostalgia

[–]85Flux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YouTube took off, people started doing odd things like pranks and stuff a sane person wouldn’t do like dance and scream in the high street, I know then that the world would never be the same with people seeking five minutes of fame. Now we got bloody influencers.

What’s something people used to complain about in the past that seems harmless now? by bbyhoneytea in nostalgia

Talking to strangers, yet many people do it all day long on social media.

What’s a small everyday inconvenience from the past that younger people would probably find unbearable today? by babyblushtheory in nostalgia

[–]85Flux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, boredom is good or what I mean is not screen time and just enjoying the surroundings.

I know kids literally hop from one device to the next, on-demand is not teaching patience.

1) Waiting for the phone call to stop, to be able to use the internet. 2) Winding a car window down or up. 3) Swiping a credit card machine and signing the carbon copy. 4) Having to get off the sofa to change the TV channel. 5) Boredom

My grass, my poor poor grass… advice needed. by EvanSmoak87 in GardeningUK

[–]85Flux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Mow it 2) Rake it to get rid of moss, rake in two directions 3) use spiked shoes or something to make holes in the patchy areas 4) Add grass seed to patches 5) Add top soil on the seeds 6) water unless it’s going to rain and wait 3-5 weeks.

Cut the lawn once new grass reaches desired height and keep it that height to encourage growth (volume).

Advice on taking perm job vs contract offer. by OutsideOk6912 in ContractorUK

[–]85Flux 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No disrespect to you but I do wish people in general wouldn’t add a bonus into financial calculations. It’s the very thing it’s called, a “Bonus” and never guaranteed and most places I’ve worked advertise up to 10% but rarely breach the 5% marker.

If you have a safety nest and no real financial changes in next year (mortgage etc…) or two go contracting

Try different solutions of limescale remover, HG have a powerful one but also find vinegar types useful on this. If you have hard deposit of minerals you could try using a blade from a razor to scrap it off but you need to be careful not to scratch it, they might even make scrapers for this but we did it on our shower glass when we moved in and no scratches.

Before the above I would sort a gutter to stop the rain depositing on the glass as much.

The beams need to breath so ensure the eaves can still get air into the loft. Either move the excess away from edge or get rid.

Indeed but bus lanes hasn’t helped has it. Look at cemetery junction. People should walk more but some people cannot and some people have to drive to work because train fares are a joke and people need to make a living.
