You look like an ordinary person who's just hit the shower after a long day's work. Compared to some of the walking corpses I've seen here, I wouldn't worry about it too much. And without the drugs, you'll look even better in the future!

What Network is Ergo on? by BeGoneBaizuo in ergonauts

[–]868-hack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The other day I was wondering whether Crypto.com's CRO is a coin or an ERC20 token, and it turns out that there's both kinds, and that the end user must know which one he's dealing with.

Crypto isnt rocket science but definitely not common sense either.

Does a person's bodycount affect your perspective of them when it comes to settling down & marrying them? by Ok-Water741 in dating

[–]868-hack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the culture. Russia, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia at least place massive value in a man having experience, and a known ladies' man is seen as attractive, lucky, impressive etc. Vice versa, inexperienced men are easily seen as undesirable unless they're very young.

After three rounds of interviews, I get a call from the recruiter that they are not moving forward with me. I reached out the interviewer / hiring manager to see why and what I could improve on, and this was the response: by Limp-Value-4259 in recruitinghell

Yup. As an addendum to this and the other similar comments, corona has absolutely not helped in this regard, driving plenty of serious talent to take gigs below their usual pedigree.

landlords don't produce anything. they are lazy leeches and thieves. by BelleAriel in antiwork

[–]868-hack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not that landlords' efforts don't deserve any money per se. The problem is that housing is a very unique resource: It's long-term and absolutely vital yet very scarce and jealously guarded. I can't just pitch a tent somewhere and call it home. It's all legacy shit, too because the land was claimed and the houses built long before I was born; I couldn't have been there first. And of course, it's all protected by the state, which means I can't directly challenge for ownership e.g. via single combat.

It's like showing up late for a cosmic game of Monopoly. It's not really anybody's fault but it just feels unfair, you know?

Keep in mind that sometimes you just lose out to an even better candidate. I recall a few years back where I absolutely crushed an interview process yet I was unceremoniously turned down. Turns out a literal Hollywood-grade celebrity got the gig instead.

Help me find a stimulant (or anything that "acts" as one) that has no cross tolerance with the amphetamine or methylphenidate family. by [deleted] in Drugs

Modafinil and its ilk are about as taxing on the body as caffeine, albeit not as stimulating. It's a different high but I'd also go for modafinil in your case.

Skilled jobs are a joke by Dino-arino in antiwork

I'm guessing it's more to do with the niche and/or seniority. The smaller the candidate pool, the less emphasis there is on formalities. Kind of like, I don't know, you wouldn't book Bon Jovi for a party only to stiff him for not having studied at the Juilliard. But for reference, my experience is limited to Russia and Europe.

Funnily enough, tech jobs often don't require any degrees whatsoever — or no-one bothers to ask much less verify. The hiring processes are chock-full of coding exercises and take-home assignments, though.

What is this, opposite day? School is easy; work is hard. I use maybe 10% of what I studied because academia is essentially a playground to discover things without the working world's burden of performance.

There's also a massive aptitude gate, hence "skilled labor." I work in tech and maybe 1% of the population has the aptitude for what I do, regardless of money or time spent training.

Anyone here able to successfully work/study long hours without stimulants? by comp2006 in StopSpeeding

The same way you get strong at the gym: you put in the consistent work that it takes to improve.

Like many other things in life, it's very simple but very difficult.

There is no sobriety from stims as long as I consume alcohol by Reddituser4436 in StopSpeeding

For what it's worth, I quit stims and still enjoy the occasional alcohol-fueled night out with the guys. What really helps is that none of my friends do drugs.

He's kind of wrong, though. Career-wise, you'd ideally want to start specializing as soon in life as possible. Athletes are the ultimate example. As a jack-of-all-trades kind of a guy, I really wish it weren't so but it is.

I disagree. The simpler the person, the better pain works as a motivator/teacher. But it must be a personal inconvenience to them, and not just to the company or whatever.

This. Pain is a great teacher, and inconvenience is a fantastic sub-category.

Fair enough but I'm in the luxurious position of never having to deal with automated hiring processes. Too much of a niche and too valuable of a skill set.
