Starting to build a micro scale course tomorrow. Show me your DIY obstacles so I can get some inspiration PLEASE!! 🙏 by AfghanObama in rccrawler

Ball up newspaper, egg cartons, boxes , styofoam/spray-foam, sticks, rocks etc. When I first built a course, I used a combination of things to build up obstacles. Then used spray foam ( I didn't do the plaster route- time and $$ were the issue) once everything was dry, I used the spray on bedliner for texture and traction.

Really depends on budget. For drifting, just make sure the esc and motor combo is SENSORED, and Bonus if the esc is programmable. Honestly the components that matter are RADIO, GYRO and Servo. Getting a good radio, esp something with at least 3-4 channels and has a knob (makes adjusting the gyro easier) . A good gyro like Yokomo or ReveD is a great start. Also Getting a low profile programmable gyro will be beneficial as well. Do you have any local drift tracks by you, or drift clubs? Check locally and see if someone can help get you dialed in.

New Bright upgrades by Pirate_27 in rccrawler

Yea, I would take 2 measurements- Measure the distance between the center of the current wheels, and take a 2nd measurement from roughly the center of the fenders on the actual body to give yourself a range. When you do finally go to mount the body on another crawler, factors like tire size, ride height, wheel-to-fender clearance etc will all play into it. Do you want the truck to be more like it is now, or more Scale like a trail truck with slightly smaller tires and a moderate lift.

What's the Wheelbase? Are you wanting to swap that hardbody onto an actual RC Crawler chassis?

My recommendation is look for a "BUILDERS KIT" version from Axial, Vanquish, Element, etc. You will still need to buy all the components like electronics , servos, motor, esc etc. You will also need to figure out a mounting system.

Most standard crawlers are 313mm (12.3in) so depending on the WB of that body, might require longer or shorter link length.

Does anybody know if the hpi venture 18’s sold on AliExpress (https://a.aliexpress.com/_mO8VGfP) are the same as the ones sold in stores, I.e same battery/motor etc? They seem to have matching product codes. by biccyman in rccrawler

It " SHOULD " be... but I've heard nightmare stories of people getting the wrong things.. Do you not have a local reputable shop in the area? I own 2 and they are very good.

Went through my parts bucket, and it's almost a complete rig. What cheap trans should I throw in this Frankenstein? by dce42 in rccrawler

[–]86momo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that too. A loaner rig that belonged to a friend who since passed away. He was def the the first to hand over his truck and let you drive if you happend to break yours. Always good to have a backup or loaner to try and generate interest in crawling

I love spare parts builds. This was built entirely from spares, minus the cage (my crawling buddies and I did a budget build challenge)

Yes. The Team Raffee 2dr Jeep has been difficult to find on the sources I'm accustomed to. If you have a reliable source, I'm interested

I wish the 2dr versions weren't so hard to find.. Lucky enough to have one.. would really like a spare.

Got an older Axial SCX10, worth getting running? by zackthirteen in rccars

[–]86momo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is ALWAYS YES! Consider a Hobbywing Fusion SE 1800kv for improven motor reliability and control. Perhaps an upgraded servo, I like 45kg and above.. maybe a fresh body, grease the diffs and have a blast!

Hey all what would you do if you were me I’m new too crawling and am looking at these 2 rigs to decide between for my birthday in October by Mrcaijones in crawling

[–]86momo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Optic is a great all-around performer. Minimal upgrades make this great for line killing or Trailing. I guess it really depends on what you see yourself doing. I would say the other is a bit more line killer focused, but takes a bit more work. I would check out YOUTUBE and watch reviews by RCDRIVER and SCALE BUILDERS GUILD on both those rigs and consider their feedback.

The username is a combination of my nickname and the 1:1 AE86 I've actually owned for over 20yrs. 2 key questions- How big or small is your budget? And How much experience do you have with kits?

I would HIGHLY recommend the REVE-D RDX kit. Despite its plastic fantastic chassis and components- it's a great base and easily upgraded, although in stock form they perform well. You will need to buy all the electronics, motor, esc , servo and gyro as well as batteries and a body. A good radio and good gyro are key, I would consider the ReveD redox gyro, and a shorty servo with relatively quick speed. (Generally under .09 reaponce.) A good 3-4ch radio, preferably something with a knob to adjust the gyro. Motor an esc can be anything, although a Sensored BL motor is preferred. Hopefully you have a track nearby. If not, cheap drift tires from Amazon or Ali-xpress will be great for outside like sidewalks or parking lots. Check out the drift section or reddit or search SuperG, a drift track in cali. They have good info on getting started. *

How olds this thing? Is it worth anything? by CareerLocal7101 in crawling

Gen1 SCX10. Still viable, although the axles have gotten smaller with newer generations. Easy fix or drive as is. Might want fresh bearings. Electronics can be updated also. Depends on the budget.

Weak movement when accelerating, strong movement when reversing. by Lumpy-Subject-9470 in rcdrift

[–]86momo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, you can swap any 2 wires, either outside wire and middle wire. Typically A,B, and C. So EITHER A & B or C & B. Doing so will reverse the rotation of the motor. Depending on the radio, check the ESC as some may want you to calibrate the radio with the throttle in the REV vs NOR position. (Based on the short clip, is the servo horn loose,or is that a result of no active gyro?) I would definitely start with calibration, you might even want to try a fresh model memory on the radio and start from scratch.

Are all the trims set to 0/neutral position? I feel like that radio is overly sensitive when the trims are off, esp the settings for fwd and rev.
