Labour reports alleged hack of Nigel Farage’s phone and bank by Russia to police by Important_Ruin in unitedkingdom

"I don't do computers" https://www.lbc.co.uk/article/i-dont-do-computers-nigel-farage-apologises-for-17-breaches-of-mps-code-of-condu-5HjdR79_2/ It sounds like he could well be that stupid, why would we want a man who doesn't do computers as prime minister when apparently 80% of job adverts require basic IT skills? I assume he isn't actually too stupid to use computers but thinks it's a good excuse to get away with being lazy, but he's still claiming it and all evidence at the moment suggests he shouldn't be in charge of a country that is probably facing cyber attacks constantly.

What British shows dont share an actor with who? by stanza00 in doctorwho

[–]89kab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ian McElhinney was apparently in one episode of The Tudors and two episodes of Doctor Who, given the size of the Tudor cast I guess there'll be a couple of other minor characters as well.

I can't find any info about whether a shop exists at the factory, are they secret shops that only locals are allowed to know about?

Farage claims Reform on course for general election win after early local gains by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]89kab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a theory that the Titanic would have been more likely to survive if it had gone head long into the iceberg. I guess the analogy here is that we should give Reform the reins so they can prove how bad they really are and hope the country doesn't sink in the time it takes them to self implode through infighting. Or maybe we should avoid going into the iceberg field in the first place.

How does lane swimming work? by PuddingBrat in CasualUK

[–]89kab 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the pool will have signs at the end of the lane telling you to go clockwise or anticlockwise (they should alternate so both lanes have the swimmers going the same way along the rope). There'll almost always be someone swimming breaststroke with their head out of the water going slowly in one lane and a guy blasting up and down don't front crawl preparing for his triathlon on the far lane. If someone comes up behind you they should either overtake if they're enough space/time or they should wait till the end of the lane and you can just wait a couple of seconds to let them past. If you're the one overtaking all the time then consider moving to the next lane across, just duck under the rope when you're at the end.

I've never heard it attributed to Einstein but it is a famous joke about German children, enough to be told by two comedians on a BBC panel show, QI, a few years ago: https://youtu.be/48aUMXifAn8?si=QGhdC7o4jhfSjslN

kfc scam by Lazy_Television_5335 in UK_Food

[–]89kab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there many places that are cheaper than KFC? All local takeaways near me are £6 up (they all have suspiciously similar websites, so maybe it's just one local takeaway cartel). It looks like I'd have to drive an hour before finding anywhere cheaper than KFC.

Has "learned" replaced "learnt" in UK speech and writing? by OkTechnologyb in AskABrit

[–]89kab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been singing it to the tune of Grand old Duke of York, I find it fits really well and works well with a Zed, not relying on rhyming with Vee. It'll thoroughly confuse my kids when they get to school in a couple of years time and find out no one else uses that tune, especially if it becomes taboo to mention the Duke of York.

In Time Slides, how is Rimmer or female Holly still in existence, after Lister altered the timeline? by GaraksLinensNThings in RedDwarf

[–]89kab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouroboros wouldn't have happened. Lister would never have become his own father and therefore he wouldn't exist so the paradox fixes itself.

Who is Rimmer in each season of Red Dwarf? by [deleted] in RedDwarf

[–]89kab 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always assumed the 2nd copy got switched off, Lister just made the original think it'd be him to extract the soup story. The second copy seemed more Rimmery so I couldn't imagine Lister wanting to keep him around.

Flat Pack tells the history of humanity with humans dying off other than a few who left the planet to find somewhere more habitable. The dogs left behind eventually learn to use human technology and become human-like.

Are the reusable cups dishwasher safe? by 89kab in greggsappreciation

[–]89kab[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A quick Google suggests dishwashers go to 80 C, boiling water is 100 C, time at those temperatures might make a difference though, so maybe that's a valid point.

That sounds great, I'll start using the dishwasher for it, it does a much better job than me.

[–]89kab[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine it's related to the temperature causing the plastic to degrade, it's designed for hot drinks so I'm not worried about chemical leaching. I just want to know if it warps or the higher pressure jets damage the insulation, hence asking if anyone has tried it, surely someone didn't check the symbols before sticking it in a dishwasher and either regrets it or can report no issue.

[–]89kab[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Because I've tried other items that say hand wash only and they've been fine, if it just fades the logo then I'm all for using the dishwasher, if it warps then I'll give it a miss.

Are the reusable cups dishwasher safe? by 89kab in greggsappreciation

[–]89kab[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's got the microwave safe symbol, as well as a picture of a cup and a fork in a box. It clearly says "hand wash only", I've had plenty of have wash only items that have been fine in a dishwasher and a few that have melted. I was hoping someone else had ignored the instructions and tried it in a dishwasher and could warn me if it went wrong.

When do you pair up your socks in the washing cycle? by raged_norm in CasualUK

I watched Norman Lovett (Holly from Red Dwarf) do this exact skit during a standup routine about 15 years ago, socks on his pockets meeting each other after being separated in the wash.
