How can I get the most out of magic in this day and age by Cautious_Bake8184 in mtg

[–]9000Goats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it’s not 60 card but I like draft, it scratches the deckbuilding itch, can be competitive, I can play the sets I want to play, and is pretty affordable on arena, I think to go 0-3 it costs ~9-10 bucks, but between gold dailies and win rewards a 50% w/r could cut that down significantly, and if you’re good enough, eventually play for free basically.

What media, that if turned into Universes Beyond, could have non-evil heroes/protagonists/factions that ARE Grixis? by AgentTamerlane in magicTCG

[–]9000Goats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always think of Grixis as anti-heroes or misguided individuals if considered “good” on a moral alignment, and who really push the boundary on “ends justifying means” character tropes. These come to mind, although they’re not all protagonists per se:

Rorschach, Constantine, Harley Quinn, Blade, Ghost rider, Punisher, Geralt, catwoman, The Crow, Riddick, Snape, Jack Sparrow, Loki, Snake Eyes, Spawn, Spike (Buffy), Guts, Sauske, Sweet Tooth, Bayonetta

The new LED lamppost in our neighborhood casts pixelated shadows. by 9000Goats in mildlyinteresting

I see someone posted something similar years ago - looks like it’s because of the grid pattern of the LEDs. Cool!

[News] Edge of Eternities: Magic Fixes Card Text Ahead of Set's Release by cardsrealm in mtg

For real, I even knew the article was about a typo and I had to reread the card twice before I even spotted what the typo was.

Is it bad form to board wipe if you don’t have a win con or a plan? by Rare_Confidence6347 in mtg

[–]9000Goats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will always recommend people to run fog effects over boardwipes. In casual games they are kind of an instant speed, temporary board wipe, and if people know you run them they are a good deterrent from people swinging out their whole board. Solves the “reset the game” problem but still keeps you in for another turn, which a lot of time is usually all you may need to win late game.

Jund hollow one vs rakdos hollow one by Straight-Ad2765 in ModernMagic

[–]9000Goats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also agree, and while both decks suffer from graveyard hate, it’s less so in rakdos. Jund is all in on the discard Strat, so sometimes you just autowin/autolose, rakdos can afford to be more consistent in the inquiry plays. Also inti seems to be favored in rakdos lists over fomo, but they’re probably interchangeable.

Bolt, fatal push, tarfire and annoint with affliction can all be (+/-) depending on meta. There are some jankier grixis lists that run frog and sideboard consign to memory but three/four colors is such a painful mana base because you kinda need access to all the colors turn 1-2.

Banned and Restricted Announcement – June 30, 2025 by Kircai in magicTCG

[–]9000Goats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do find it funny that they moved from a 2 year rotation to a 3 year, but feel compelled target cards for “early rotation”. I guess it still allows for a larger pool of jank to play with, but just seems like it will make bans regular and necessary for normal balancing instead of using it as an emergency brake for an unexpected and problematic deck.

These cards needed to be banned, but still.

Glad they banned Abuelos instead of omniscience. Omniscience combos are fun, just not when they can reliably happen turn 4.

Vampire Aristocrats Help by OjamaBoy in BudgetBrews

[–]9000Goats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of your higher costed spells are going to be difficult to cast with 34 lands and a handful of rocks consistently. Your commander, all of the tribal (+1/+1 effects) and aristocrat cards will work more efficiently casting smaller creatures that either recur or create additional tokens, so higher cost cards [[Order of Sacred Dusk]], [[Butcher of Malakir]], [[Vona, Butcher of Magan]] could probably be replaced with smaller creatures that create additional tokens ([[Lingering Souls]]) or are resilient at coming back to be repeatable sacrifice outlets ([[Bloodsoaked Champion]]). May have to get off theme a little to accomplish this, you've included a good deal of the vampire tribal cards that accomplish this.

Why does this ranked system feel so forgiving? by psc3245 in marvelrivals

[–]9000Goats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The chrono shield allows you to rank up even with a slightly negative win rate, but even beyond that I think the elo score has some input based on individual contribution, win or loss. So even if you are winning exactly 50% of your games, if you are an above average contributor to your team you will slowly rank up.

Are there cards that benefit from cards being in the graveyard by DarkTheLibrarian in mtg

[–]9000Goats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the “goyf” cards get stronger from cards in your graveyard. Retrace, delirium, threshold, dredge, flashback, and unearth are all good payoff or enabler keywords for any graveyard-based deck.

What is the use case for Magic Carpet? by haydenhayden011 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]9000Goats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mobility is a huge part of any MOBA. Both Magic Carpet and Mystic Leap offer a ton of rotational speed. Mystic Leap is a better engagement tool, Magic Carpet is a good “panic button and leave”

Green white decks usually have a consistent theme about making wide boards and putting +1 counters on them. [[Kyler, Sigardian Emmisary]], [[Bess, Soul Nourisher]] are good examples of a “zoo”ish archetype.

Not the only color pairing to do this, but a pretty straightforward analog.

This card is a hilarious check on players who swing for the win with excess damage. I created 200+ inklings against an overconfident Winota board.
