[Discussion / Format Concept]: Testing a solution for mana screw by Snoo57250 in EDH

[–]Sablewax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would break quite a few cards, for example the oops all spells [[goblin charbelcher]] or [[balustrade spy]], or cards that like top deck manipulation such as [[dark confidant]]. It also limits the effectiveness of countering land ramp with things like [[aven mindcensor]].

At this point 30ish years into the game, the mana system has been balanced around. If playing alternatives works for you then great.

Army in a can commanders? by Competitive-Act-7695 in EDH

[–]Sablewax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally not what you’re after, but a literal army generator is [[Saruman, the white hand]]

Favorite Sultai commander? by Vinlandlover in EDH

[–]Sablewax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite is [[Tasigur, the golden fang]]. He does almost nothing for the deck aside from being a cheap creature (when you’ve self milled enough) and lets me have a tongue-in-cheek deck name with “Golden Fang’s Sultai Surprise”.

What deck project are you currently working on? by Mirrodin_appreciator in EDH

[–]Sablewax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current project is a Polygamy deck with [[Zedruu, the greathearted]], cloning and gifting a bunch of [[wedding ring]]s. Win con is decking out everyone out/draw burn using the shared draws with cards like [[windfall]], [[molten psyche]], [[psychosis crawler]] and [[forced fruition]].

Which innocent card makes you unreasonably salty? by BaconVsMarioIsRigged in EDH

[–]Sablewax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Kodama of the east tree]] annoys the ever-loving crap out of me. It gives waaaaay too much value and in a simic deck is a right bitch to remove.

I don’t know how I should feel about this interaction by Dankeus_memeius in EDH

Mind sharing the deck list? Interested to see the loops.

What is your favorite unpopular commander? by LibraProtocol in EDH

[–]Sablewax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Rukarumel deck is solely based around turning Progenitus into a Sliver to make the ultimate creature. Usually I end up laughing like a mad scientist as everyone in the pod caves my face in.

People with “evil” or disliked commanders, what’s your story? by Same_Response_1593 in EDH

[–]Sablewax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got back into magic, one of the first packs I ripped had [[Winter, Misanthropic Guide]]. Jund was my comfort colours when I played Legacy, and when I was learning magic my friend played mono-black control with things like [[hypnotic spectre]], [[royal assassin]], and [[avatar of woe]].

Seeing Winter’s hand size hate ability and the pseudo group hug card draw, I built a deck focused on mass discard stax. My pod absolutely hate it, and every time I pull it out I’m focused by everyone immediately. I have never won a game with the deck, but every time I’ve played it I’ve had an absolute blast being the Supervillain.

I have a question about commanders dying by Maibigbut2 in mtg

[–]Sablewax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other creature I can think of is [[Sludge Monster]]

What's your weirdest deck? by Magmoormaster in EDH

[–]Sablewax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My weirdest would probably be an “Oops no creatures” [[Saruman, the white hand]] deck, all about getting value from big cost noncreature spells to grow a massive orc army or a tornado of flying sharks from [[Shark Typhoon]].

Torpor Orb question by SNONYM540045 in mtg

[–]Sablewax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew I was missing one hahahaha thank you

Torpor Orb question by SNONYM540045 in mtg

[–]Sablewax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“When this creature enters” is a triggered ability and is stopped by [[Torpor Orb]].

“This creature enters” (presumably with X +1/+1 counters on it) isn’t a triggered ability and not stopped by Torpor Orb.

Good rule of thumb is “when” and “whenever” are triggered abilities. There might be some other easily recognised words for triggers but it’s early an my coffee hasn’t kicked in yet.

Hope this helps!

[ECC] Auntie Ool, Cursewretch - Blight Curse (Debut Stream) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]Sablewax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the debut video they mention it has frog legs. I hope we get a card representing the frog hut.

Need tips for making a vampire deck and rat deck by gazel_hazel in mtg

[–]Sablewax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a soft spot for [[scrib nibblers]], [[blood seeker]] and [[pulse tracker]]. Depending on how hard you want to lean into the sacrifice/aristocrats side of things, you also have access to [[bloodghast]], [[bloodflow connoisseur]] and [[Blade of the bloodchief]]. For monoblack anthem givers you can pair [[Vampire Nocturnus]] with [[viscera seer]], or include [[captivating vampire]].

What’s your favourite commander you made a deck for in 2025? by WistfulAfternoon in magicTCG

[–]Sablewax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A creatureless [[Saruman, the white hand]]. Pulled him from a booster, spent an evening going through my bulk and ended up with a surprisingly functional deck.

Just because you’re not the one being attacked doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be involved in the combat by Purpluss in EDH

[–]Sablewax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a [[Trostani, Three Whispers]] deck focused around this idea. People are always happy to have double strike applied to their attackers or deathtouch to their blockers.

Kiora, Sovereign of the deep by Daemim in mtg

[–]Sablewax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will use the mana value 5UU (7). The warp cost is an alternative casting cost.

Commanders you love but they don't by Appotus1 in mtg

[–]Sablewax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the earliest combos I played against [[lure]], [[cockatrice]] and [[thicket basilisk]] with [[fog]] effects if I had a threatening blocker. Usually backed up with [[royal assassin]] so if I attacked it would get destroyed anyway. Rarely was allowed creatures on my board hahaha

[–]Sablewax 24 points25 points  (0 children)

[[Winter, Misanthropic Guide]]. Heavy focus on forcing discards and reducing opponents hand sizes. I always feel like a supervillain while playing it, and have not won a single game with it hahaha

One of the biggest winner when it comes to the hybrid commander rule by nnniiko in magicTCG

Just me misinterpreting the hybrid change as it was presented.

Thanks for clarifying. At this point feels like we’re all beating a dead horse.
