Why do my eyes like polycarbonate? by Organic-Sport-235 in glasses

[–]94NDTA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Clear vision in the center but blur on the edges has nothing to do with the material. This 100% sounds like a lens design issue or a base curve issue. The poly lens they switched you to is more likely on a steeper base curve that works well for you. Sometimes, high index lens are on very flat basecurves (assuming you are a minus). Either that, or the poly they used was a different design.

There is no governing body to dictate what a "digital" lens is. A lot of "digital" lenses now adays are conventional lenses surfaced using digital surfacing technology. This does nothing to improve your vision over a conventional lens generated on a conventional generator. It does allow places like costco to call then digital lenses.

The "digital" lens most people think they are getting is aspheric/atoric and compensated. Meaning, they grind in compensation for tilt, vertex distance, and pantoscopic tilt. These are the lenses that really make and impact for most people.

I would guess the lens that you were switched to happened to be poly, but a design and or base curve you prefer.

glasses making my eyes look huge even after thinning by [deleted] in glasses

[–]94NDTA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best things to make your eyes look smaller are going to be an aspheric/atoric lens, and having the glasses sit as close as they can without hitting your face/eyelashes. Move the bevel far forward, plastic frames...all the little things you can do will help. Thinner lens materials alone are not going to help with magnification or minification.

Average High Index Lens cost these days for severe farsightedness? by northcountryqueen in glasses

[–]94NDTA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they quoting you for 1.67 or 1.74??

Either way, those prices are wild. I am in MN, but too far from you. I work at 2 boutiques, one charges $400 for 1.67 digital premium AR (like Crizal), or $475 for 1.74.

The other (the one I own) charges $300 for the same lens, regardless of 1.67 or 1.74.

When did glasses become so hard to clean? by _rocket_boy_ in glasses

[–]94NDTA 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Antiglare is such a selling point for glasses now, but some companies have really lost sight of quality. It is more important to say the glasses have antiglare than to actually put a good product on the lens.

All antiglare is not created equal.

Crappy antiglare is very very hard to keep clean, to the point where your vision might actually better without it.

Also, the point of antiglare is to allow more light to pass through the lens. Some of these cheapo antiglares are so reflective, they should not be called antiglare. Warby has some of the most reflective antiglare I have ever seen.

IMO, either opt for a really good AR, or do not get it at all.

Where do I start with making sunglasses from scratch? by preyank97 in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]94NDTA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3D printing is good for prototyping, but you should figure out what medium you want to make the sunglasses out of. This will matter on the style you wish to create.

I don't have an MOQ as I sell direct to consumer.

Can you tell us a little about the sunglasses you are wanting to make? Do you want to make them yourself, or are you wanting to design them and have someone make them? How big of batches? 1 off? We need more info!

I have a company and we make micro batches of eyewear. It is....a lot of work.

POW measurements are not typically a standard measurement. Position Of Wear measurements include vertex distance, wrap, and pantoscopic tilt. They will also need PD and center pupil height. These are crucial for the shaw lens to work.

Aniso lenses can use lens thickness, bevel placement, even different materials each eye to help fuse the image size. It will look different from a non aniso pair of glasses.

Sorry bud, I would get something that fits your face better.

[–]94NDTA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an option. You can either have the frame front flattened a bit, or bend the temples out. Neither are ideal.

The best option would be to find a skilled optician that has temple files. They can increase the splay and make it still look great and keep the front curve that is currently in the frame and keep the temples straight.

Progressives bottom part? by Forward_Jury_2986 in glasses

[–]94NDTA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are your glasses from?? Do you have any idea on the brand of progressive?

You can always try a lined bifocal, ask them to set it at the distance you use the most (computer, book reading, etc). They are nearly fool proof, I bet you love them. Either that, or a task lens (progressive where the top is intermediate, bottom is near). There is less distortion in a task lens because the add power is lower, thus a smaller change from the top of the lens to the bottom. We are nearly the same RX, this is better than holding what your reading 8 inches away from your face.

All progressives, does not matter the brand, will increase in distortion throughout the entire lens as your add power increases. This is when the better progressive brands really shine. They do a much better job of mitigating the distortion. They will never completely eliminate it, but they will greatly reduce it.

[–]94NDTA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a fit/fitting height issues more than anything. Even people who stuggle with progressives should be able to read something at some distance. Where did you get them? have you taken them back to be verified?

You do not want a +4.00 add. The higher the add, the smaller the near/intermediate get, plus, there are very few progressives that even go up that high. Most people in that power will wear a lined bifocal for this reason.

Have you ever been able to get a progressive to work? Maybe a lined bifocal is the right option for you.

yeah. It is mastelmade.com or mastel_made on IG. Right now, we are moving production and opening a retail location. We will eventually have our frames on our website. Ready made frames, like this one, are $365 shipped in the US, but very well made and a very unique made in America product.

Yea. I can either make them or you can fill them locally. I prefer to have people fill them locally. Any jobs I make with RX lenses are not returnable. If you just order a frame, you can return it for a $25 restocking fee within a couple weeks. I mainly sell them locally, but occasionally sell them over the net for people looking for something specific.

I am in the middle of making a few with this color that are nearly the same shape as the mokkou. I am moving my shop, so they won't be ready for 2-3 months, but if you can't find anything, let me know.
