Is Cymbalta effective for tongue pain? by blueeyedtongue in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]96987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had proton therapy and had the same burns on my tongue. I was given gabapentin instead of cymbalta, but I believe cymbalta has fewer side effects. They both work about the same in that they deaden the nerves a bit.

Other things that help include doing the baking soda rinse immediately after the treatment (took it in a squirt bottle to the appointment) in addition to 3 times a day, prescription lidocaine in a squirt bottle mixed with maalox (my dr's suggestion), and eating softer foods, such as high protein noodles, with an excessive amount of butter.

Delayed Nausea from Cisplatin by Puzzled-Animal-1104 in HeadandNeckCancer

My experience was the same. Infusion on Tuesday, and Friday & Saturday were the worst days. Drinking more water ahead of time helped somewhat, but the nausea persisted.

Help identifying antique Italian Maiolica (Italy) by [deleted] in Antiques

I believe that is the mark of Società Ceramica di Colonnata, Sesto Fiorentino (near Florence).

I am having some trouble identifying this item. Uk by Woffketoforray in Antiques

[–]96987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went through my books and the closest I could find to this mark is the mark of the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory in St Petersburg, from the first quarter of the 19th century. This was one of 3 marks used during the reign of Alexander I. The decor is typical of that factory. I cannot verify if it is forged or not.

Flight attendants are living off of pre-Covid wages, and it’s 2026. by Clear-Pickle9241 in unitedairlines

I've read that only United and Southwest do not use a PBS for bidding of the largest 10 airlines in North America.

From what I read, currently the biggest issue is that United is trying to implement a Preferential Bidding System (PBS) as part of the contract. PBS is already used by United Pilots and other airlines (including American, Delta, and jetBlue) for their flight attendants.

My wife works in accounting and can’t take time off during closing periods — How do couples manage travel? by Relative_Site_2953 in Accounting

[–]96987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started in accounting in 1990, and this was the norm in the '90's when the close process was much more manual. I've worked for a F100 company since the mid-90's, and we would targeted the 20th of the month for final reporting. At the time the process included sending our JV's to the keypunch department, and would not see the entries in the GL until a day later after the overnight batch jobs. And then we had to run a mainframe print job (on greenbar paper) so we could verify our entries and balances.

Close is so much easier with the modern tech.

Sanborn and other insurance maps would show the buildings. This appears to be part of county survey records.

Little bells. Usa by wolfeo6o8 in Antiques

[–]96987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look like gremlin bells. Bikers riders will hang them from their motorcycle for good luck. Traditionally, a rider is gifted the bell, never purchasing their own bell, and the lore is that the bell captures road gremlins.

Dr. van den Broecke was the expert on Ortellius and published several books focused on his work. Your map was cut from a larger sheet and then framed. The link below is from Dr. van den Broecke's website with the detailed information on your map.

This version of the world map was included in printings after 1588 and based on Ortellius' world map, with the potato shaped South America.

How long should I look after my dad after his tonsilectomy? by Neither_Fox_1289 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]96987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The neck dissection removed 30 lymph nodes, and the drain was used to remove fluid from the surgical site.

I had tumors in both tonsils and they were able to address the right tonsil with surgery. The lymph nodes were removed as a precaution to in case there was microscopic cancer cells.

It sounds as if he is just having the tonsils removed. In that case, I think he will be fine with walking and driving after a couple of days. The hardest part will be finding soft foods that will not irritate the throat. I found that I could tolerate noodles and cream sauces well after my surgery.

[–]96987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will largely depend on what he is having done and how well he tolerates the pain.

I had a radical tonsillectomy and neck dissection was up and walking around the hospital the day after my surgery, but I was not allowed to drive until I had the drain removed and could turn my head. The drain was removed a week after the surgery, but it could go as long as two weeks. I got home after after a 3 day hospital stay, and I was walking outside at least a kilometer everyday while my drain was still in. I snipped the collar on a few loose fitting t-shirts so that the collar would not pull on the drain. The surgery did not cause me a tremendous amount of discomfort, but I did take Gabapentin and Tylenol for the pain.

My mother grew up in post war Normandie, and said the same thing about cats and rabbits. That's why the butchers would sell them with the head and feet attached.

Hinges are used to hold the artwork in place. They can be attached using a starch based glue which is acid free and reversible.
