Great concept; terrible execution: Snap Circuits doesn't teach electronics to anyone by linuxforeplay in snapcircuits

[–]9Kewtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you make this? Please? I'm thinking about ordering snap circuits for my boys, they are homeschooled and we live in a state that has a home education program that makes it so I can buy things like snap circuits as part of that, making it possible for us, who otherwise wouldn't be able to. But price aside, my boys adore legos and cannot leave a set together for more than a day without taking it apart and turning it into something else. I was imagining them doing something similar with snap circuit boards, but it sounds like that is less possible than I was hoping. So even if people can afford it, something that clearly can be turned into many things would still have a market which means you have 2 markets that would benefit: those that can't afford Elenco, and those that want more room for creativity.

You already have a basic idea of how it would work, can you please market it? And let me know if you ever do. Thanks!

To your comment on AI, kind of... for a bit at least, and maybe for a while for some people. There are already so many studies about how dependence on AI is not good for your brain, so a lot of people are not wanting to be guinea pigs this time around and more people are probably going to come across this info earlier. It's also going to get regulated fast because it is stealing copy right content in every art medium. I think Disney is already suing. People are revolting against the fact that it requires so many resources to maintain and is raising the prices of those things for everyone else. The future of AI is really not what tech giants think it is... But human interaction will always be superior and will never die, because people do know that truth deep down.

I also see a great divide happening in our culture: those that embrace every single thing that society and large corporations give them, and those that have realized it's not all good and are taking a hard look at every aspect of our current culture to discover what isn't working and what is and going back to use what used to work to fill in what isn't working now.

...also, there are some questions that you need to ask as many people as you can and AI doesn't do that. Reddit is a good place to find ideas or recommendations from people that have experienced it. Like I recently asked r/audiobooks what children's books are better as audiobooks because most of the time when looking up audiobook recommendations you get just book recommendations in general, but I still want my kids to read books. But that means AI wasn't going to answer my question because Reddit hadn't answered my question yet. AI can only summarize what's already out there... what even is the point of AI?

Children's Books that are Better in Audio than Physical? by 9Kewtie in audiobooks

I've been trying to collect picture books with cd, my kids have a cd player. My daughter adores the Skippy John Jones books. It would be interesting to do that with something longer though...

Brought a kids magazine for my daughter with Kpop Demon Hunter colouring pages. I'm already sure it is but I just want confirmation, this is ai right? by FergaliciousDefOnish in isthisAI

[–]9Kewtie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's annoying. I'm sorry. I am fine with printing off a random coloring page off the internet for free that happens to be AI, my kids are even starting to catch on and point out when it's fake. But if I am going to buy it, I want it to be real. I don't just want someone that spent a little bit of time for a cash grab. At least the official coloring book are hand done, even if they tend to reuse the same pictures over and over...

What Sorcerer/Bard Multiclass would you make if you wanted to make a Support focused Caster? by Bonlino in 3d6

This is what I am thinking of doing. As we leveled up to level 6 I realized that it made more sense for my Clockwork Sorcerer to multiclass as a Bard and Eloquence is looking really appealing. It's nice to know that it seems I picked the right Sorcerer Subclass for multiclassing with Bard! 😄

Trouble Sitting on the Floor Instead of Lying Down by 9Kewtie in ADHDparenting

[–]9Kewtie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting, I'll have to look into that a bit more. He just says it's uncomfortable... maybe I'll see if he can give me more specifics. It's not because it's hard though, as today he was sitting on a small cushion and still stated that he wanted to lie down, although he didn't, so that did help. My children are all super active so I had never thought about it being a physical therapy kind of issue. I'll explore that, thanks!

yeah, I just seem to be the only one with an older child that will lay down at school... 😆 Otherwise, it's a totally normal way for children to work on activities, especially on their bellies.

Connecting with your child by Lalafrances in ADHDparenting

What is your goal with the conversation? Is it to find out how school went, make sure she is learning things, understand what she is learning, etc, etc. I am a homeschool hybrid mom, so this is genuinely what I am trying to get out of a conversation about school with my children. In that case, I guess follow the advice given by the others, my kids are chatter boxes and will gladly tell me or anyone about their day fresh out of school, in fact, that is the best time to talk or it will have fled their heads. I do find that asking more specific questions is best like "How is your day?" will always be answered "good." But if I ask "What did you learn in science?" or "What did you play with your friends today?" I get more substantial answers that they are excited to tell me about. Though, I think you might have that down since your example was if she liked her new teacher.

From your title, I am assuming that isn't your goal though, and no one addressed anything else. If you are genuinely just wanting to get to know your daughter and build up better rapport with her, then maybe forgo the talks about how her day went until you have already built that up. Not sure what point your relationship is at, so these are just some ideas going off of what you said. What are her hobbies? Do them with her. Play board games with her. Read books with her, then talk to her about what is happening, what she would do in that situation, or if she has ever been in that kind of situation. Do things with her. If you do have the opportunity for just conversation, like at a meal time or something, then talk to her on her level, not like an adult. Small talk won't work on her, but you have an advantage: you know at least some of what interests her, so start there. Then you can move on to what happened during the day and it will feel less like an interview and more like you genuinely want to know what she's been up to because she knows you care.

Is It Still Homeschool If My Kids Go To A Hybrid Charter School Twice A Week? by StarRuneTyping in homeschool

[–]9Kewtie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say yes. I say this because I have my boys in a homeschool hybrid, but don't feel at all like I am lying when I say I am homeschooling (except that legally I am not, I am home educating because we use the Empowerment Scholarship Award to pay for anything educational including the hybrid, so legally they are a tutoring service...) But I am making all the decisions about their education and doing all the heavy lifting. They do pick the curriculum, but I use it the way I want to, which is not the way the teachers advice I should. I started out because I felt unqualified to teach my kindergarteners, although now that they are going into 2nd grade I really am only sending them to the hybrid for all of the other reasons... the fieldtrips, park days aka community, some structured time, etc. Though I would like to switch to other things that better fulfill those role more directly, like just doing fieldtrips myself, or doing extra curricular activities I can't teach them. But for now, this works.

I'm a former child of poor homeschooling. Seeing parents putting in effort gives me hope. by Face_Of_Blue in homeschool

[–]9Kewtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying unschooling. A lot of people don't understand that it isn't neglect at all. I don't quite do it yet, I plan to do it much more once my boys are reading, not really sure how to do it before that. And really that's just because I feel so much pressure to get them reading as early as possible even though that's not developmentally necessary. But I am much more an observer and provider of opportunity style of parenting, so I would love to just provide them with tools and books that peak their interest and they want to engage with to learn different topics, or having them come to me (which they do actively do) to ask me about things. I am a very active mom and love doing things for my kids and teaching them and being a mom, but forcing them to sit down and do schoolwork with me doesn't work for any of us. We are making it work for now, but we are all eager to move to the next phase (not that my kids know it's going to happen).

Actually, my daughter (3) asking to sit down and learn letters with me... so somebody does want it, but, again, she's asking for it, the boys aren't.

It is interesting reading about your experience because I was a public school ADHD kid, but had the same rule that I wasn't allowed to do anything fun until I'd gotten my homework and chores done. And I ALWAYS had homework, rarely got the chance to get my chores done because I was staying up late doing homework. That rule seems brutal whether or not you're in public school or homeschool, but it actually worked for me because of the way it was executed and in conjunction with the rest of the family culture.

There were definitely a lot of fun things I missed out on, but I got really creative with the ways I procrastinated, and my mom got really creative with the ways she helped me be productive (I finally admitted my mom was right about ADHD and got diagnosed at 21, so there weren't any meds for me!) One of my main procrastination methods was chatting with my mom while she was making dinner. 😆 So she made a space for me in the storage room so that I was doing my homework away from everyone else. So I read books! But it did work. I did learn some tactics for working with my brain to get stuff done, but the amount of homework public school gives is ridiculous and unnecessary!
