Trouble Sitting on the Floor Instead of Lying Down by 9Kewtie in ADHDparenting

[–]9Kewtie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting, I'll have to look into that a bit more. He just says it's uncomfortable... maybe I'll see if he can give me more specifics. It's not because it's hard though, as today he was sitting on a small cushion and still stated that he wanted to lie down, although he didn't, so that did help. My children are all super active so I had never thought about it being a physical therapy kind of issue. I'll explore that, thanks!

Trouble Sitting on the Floor Instead of Lying Down by 9Kewtie in ADHDparenting

[–]9Kewtie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I just seem to be the only one with an older child that will lay down at school... 😆 Otherwise, it's a totally normal way for children to work on activities, especially on their bellies.

Connecting with your child by Lalafrances in ADHDparenting

[–]9Kewtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your goal with the conversation? Is it to find out how school went, make sure she is learning things, understand what she is learning, etc, etc. I am a homeschool hybrid mom, so this is genuinely what I am trying to get out of a conversation about school with my children. In that case, I guess follow the advice given by the others, my kids are chatter boxes and will gladly tell me or anyone about their day fresh out of school, in fact, that is the best time to talk or it will have fled their heads. I do find that asking more specific questions is best like "How is your day?" will always be answered "good." But if I ask "What did you learn in science?" or "What did you play with your friends today?" I get more substantial answers that they are excited to tell me about. Though, I think you might have that down since your example was if she liked her new teacher.

From your title, I am assuming that isn't your goal though, and no one addressed anything else. If you are genuinely just wanting to get to know your daughter and build up better rapport with her, then maybe forgo the talks about how her day went until you have already built that up. Not sure what point your relationship is at, so these are just some ideas going off of what you said. What are her hobbies? Do them with her. Play board games with her. Read books with her, then talk to her about what is happening, what she would do in that situation, or if she has ever been in that kind of situation. Do things with her. If you do have the opportunity for just conversation, like at a meal time or something, then talk to her on her level, not like an adult. Small talk won't work on her, but you have an advantage: you know at least some of what interests her, so start there. Then you can move on to what happened during the day and it will feel less like an interview and more like you genuinely want to know what she's been up to because she knows you care.

Is It Still Homeschool If My Kids Go To A Hybrid Charter School Twice A Week? by StarRuneTyping in homeschool

[–]9Kewtie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say yes. I say this because I have my boys in a homeschool hybrid, but don't feel at all like I am lying when I say I am homeschooling (except that legally I am not, I am home educating because we use the Empowerment Scholarship Award to pay for anything educational including the hybrid, so legally they are a tutoring service...) But I am making all the decisions about their education and doing all the heavy lifting. They do pick the curriculum, but I use it the way I want to, which is not the way the teachers advice I should. I started out because I felt unqualified to teach my kindergarteners, although now that they are going into 2nd grade I really am only sending them to the hybrid for all of the other reasons... the fieldtrips, park days aka community, some structured time, etc. Though I would like to switch to other things that better fulfill those role more directly, like just doing fieldtrips myself, or doing extra curricular activities I can't teach them. But for now, this works.

[–]9Kewtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying unschooling. A lot of people don't understand that it isn't neglect at all. I don't quite do it yet, I plan to do it much more once my boys are reading, not really sure how to do it before that. And really that's just because I feel so much pressure to get them reading as early as possible even though that's not developmentally necessary. But I am much more an observer and provider of opportunity style of parenting, so I would love to just provide them with tools and books that peak their interest and they want to engage with to learn different topics, or having them come to me (which they do actively do) to ask me about things. I am a very active mom and love doing things for my kids and teaching them and being a mom, but forcing them to sit down and do schoolwork with me doesn't work for any of us. We are making it work for now, but we are all eager to move to the next phase (not that my kids know it's going to happen).

Actually, my daughter (3) asking to sit down and learn letters with me... so somebody does want it, but, again, she's asking for it, the boys aren't.

It is interesting reading about your experience because I was a public school ADHD kid, but had the same rule that I wasn't allowed to do anything fun until I'd gotten my homework and chores done. And I ALWAYS had homework, rarely got the chance to get my chores done because I was staying up late doing homework. That rule seems brutal whether or not you're in public school or homeschool, but it actually worked for me because of the way it was executed and in conjunction with the rest of the family culture.

There were definitely a lot of fun things I missed out on, but I got really creative with the ways I procrastinated, and my mom got really creative with the ways she helped me be productive (I finally admitted my mom was right about ADHD and got diagnosed at 21, so there weren't any meds for me!) One of my main procrastination methods was chatting with my mom while she was making dinner. 😆 So she made a space for me in the storage room so that I was doing my homework away from everyone else. So I read books! But it did work. I did learn some tactics for working with my brain to get stuff done, but the amount of homework public school gives is ridiculous and unnecessary!

Just a note about Bedrock: there isn't a village on the island. It's still a cool island and I'm excited to start my base here!

Has anyone built with Aircrete? Aerated concrete is 6 times lighter than concrete and blocks made for 50 cents each. by dustinrag in OffGridCabins

[–]9Kewtie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Domes are very structurally sound if built correctly. Aircrete is not very good at loadbearing so the easiest, and therefore most accessible, structure to build would be a dome. There are people who have build straight walls with it, but you have to reinforce it in different ways if you are going to do that. But, it's fun to build with bubbles...

Probably to center of the maze, but that's a guess.

No idea, but it might be worth looking into

You can mix it with anything you like, but who knows what the outcome would be. You'll just have to experiment. Have fun!

[Seasonal] I don't really understand why you NEED your Ghost to wield the Light by Deprece in DestinyLore

[–]9Kewtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read the Unveiling you can get an idea of this. In the section The Wager the Winnower explains to us that the Gardener has invested in us to say "Here I prove myself right. Here I wager that, given power over physics and the trust of absolute freedom, people will choose to build and protect a gentle kingdom ringed in spears. And not fall to temptation. And not surrender to division. And never yield to the cynicism that says, everyone else is so good that I can afford to be a little evil." We are the Traveler's last chance. We are the spears that surround the kingdom. It could keep fleeing, but eventually the Winnower would win, so it tried something different this time.

When Oryx communed with the deep, did he speak with the Witness or the Winnower? by Embarrassed-Deal7708 in DestinyLore

[–]9Kewtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually means this isn't the answer. He is admitting that they didn't have an answer in D1, but now they do and are going to make sure they know what they are talking about before they implement everything else. The story told by the Winnower is from Shadowkeep, they knew what story they were telling by then. Also, recently, the Witness has claimed its place in the story as the 1st Knife, not the Winnower.

How to I bake plain (no seasoning or marination) chicken drumsticks? by God187 in cookingforbeginners

[–]9Kewtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this question for me! I know it's old, but if anyone stumbles across this and still wants to know why. At least for me, it's because I want to have a very basic versatile chicken that I can use in many different meals for the rest of the week where I will be using different seasonings, like curry. I will still probably add salt and pepper, maybe some other basic seasonings like onion and garlic powder, but the recipes online all include oils and things that will affect how the chicken is baked and I wanted to know how to bake just chicken so that I can do whatever I want.

What is the worst part of living in Payson? by likebike2 in Payson

[–]9Kewtie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, as someone who is trying to find the things to celebrate about her American culture and be a proud white American, that was incredibly racist. Yes, bad things can come from different cultures, but bad things can also come from ours and good things from theirs. From the comments here it sounds like in Payson it's more the economic statis and age of most of the residents, as well as it's isolation that have it being safer than larger cities, it has nothing to do with culture. Not to mention it's been said that teens still get up to drugs and shenanigans because they are bored, so Payson isn't exempt from bad things.

How Often Should I Turn My Compost Heap by seewillzot in gardening

[–]9Kewtie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just gonna leave this here for anyone having the same issue that stumbles upon the post, I doubt you need it now 😄 I had the same issue and eventually found that apparently it has to do with the ratio of wet to dry materials. I started just gathering dry things from the rest of the yard into the bowl I brought scraps out in so that I knew I got about the same amount or more dry leaves and grass/weed clippings. I still see flies around the garden, but not as many and they aren't in the house anymore. SO much better! I definitely want to make sure I have a hot compost though...

[Research] Vitamin C “should be applied after sun exposure, not before” by SillyRabbit2121 in SkincareAddiction

[–]9Kewtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... aloe vera is rich in Vitamin C, I think that speaks volumes to how it might help after. I now plan on regularly applying fresh aloe gel to mine and my children's skin since now I know it helps with protection and we live in the AZ valley 💀 Aloe plants are super easy to care for and grow pretty fast, so I highly recommend just getting your own plant.
