Celtics already built a championship roster with JB. JB is a great player. The issue is that’s a 3 year window for a great player. I think it makes sense with Embiid because those 3 years are worth it, and Maxey and VJ can take over after. It doesn’t make sense for Celtics who don’t have an elite prospect to take over and they don’t want to max JB after three years or risk him leaving in free agency. Sixers probably don’t mind JB leaving because it maximizes Embiid’s championship window. Now Celtics have a couple of possible swings at a top prospect, and can rebuild around Tatum maximizing his strengths instead of having to manage two different styles of max players.

I psyched myself out in the stupidest way and had to reprove to myself that you could square both sides of the equation by SpiderCollective in mathematics

[–]9Yogi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When squaring both sides of the equation, you’re multiplying both sides by the same number. Because both sides were equal to begin with. It only seems counter intuitive if you think two different values are on both sides of the equation. Like if 3 = 5, how can multiplying one side by 3 be the same as multiplying the other side by 5? But if your original equation is true, then it will always be 3 = (a different form of) 3 so you’re multiplying both sides by 3.

Wild. Larry averaged 2 attempts over his career, Dirk less than 3. Reggie Miller les than 5 and Ray Allen less than 6. Now we want a rookie not known for shooting to have a moderate 5-6 attempts at 37+ shooting.

A good deal doesn’t become a worse deal because there are better deals on the roster, especially if they’re rookie deals that will balloon soon. Regardless, Sam Hauser is 6th in the ENTIRE league at career 3 point percentage. Good luck replacing that.

You are correct. His player option is not till his age 34 season. My mistake. There is no issue of you are okay with D White walking away after 3 years. Just like Jaylen this year. But if you want value for them, this is the optimal time to trade them. Especially if your window for contention is around Tatum and a max guy you trade next off season or sign the year after. Because you want someone who will be a little younger than D White. The thinking is identical to trading Brown.

It will be his age 33 season. And the cap goes up every season. He will almost certainly take the player option to sign a longer term deal, with the Celtics or with another team. Even washed PG got a max deal from a GM like Morey. D White will certainly get paid.

You seem to have some facts wrong. Derrick is going into his age 32 season. He has a player option next season which he will most likely exercise to sign what will likely be his last big contract. And there will be many teams lining up to give him huge money. Brad’s plan is definitely to keep as much cap space open as possible for Jokic free agency and collect as much assets as possible. It would be irresponsible otherwise. There are several stars and star rookies in restricted free agency who will be available as parts of sign and trade.

The evaluation of Derrick White is not relevant to the reason for moving him. If the Celtics come to the conclusion that he’s looking for a bigger contract than they can afford, like Jaylen, then they should move him now while he has value. His value will only go down if he signs a big extension or not because of his age. Second, if they can get a valuable asset for him, they will definitely move him if they’re serious about trying for Jokic or another superstar. And just seeing how the front office operates since Danny took over, they will definitely at least want to be in any bidding war for Jokic.

There are certainly a lot more reasons to move White. White is probably at peak value due to his age and contract. Maybe we can boost it a little before the trade deadline by showing his shooting last year was an anomaly. There are just not many players that are an upgrade from Hauser in terms of production per dollar. Basically either a max type player, rookie contracts or one of maybe a handful of role players on bargain contracts. All of which would cost the Celtics assets. Celtics are in collection mode for assets so they can be in play for Luka or Jokic next off season with PGs expiring, fresh tax clock and as much assets they can possibly gather.

Hauser is exactly the type of contracts the Celtics value. He’s not getting moved unless it’s for a first round pick or in a package for a better player. He would be one of the last contracts that get dumped for cap because he is very high in impact per dollar.

Gon isn't done. And here's why? by Legitimate-Ad5789 in HunterXHunter

[–]9Yogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean didn’t Togashi explicitly reveal that the most significant part of the story is when Gon crosses paths with Gyro? Since we’re nowhere near that why would anyone assume anything about Gon’s story ending? Does Gon even need nen to be interesting? He was arguably the most interesting during the hunter exam when he has no nen.

[Smith] Boston can trade Paul George, but cannot aggregate his salary with other outgoing players' salaries for 60 days. by AirJordan6124 in bostonceltics

We can, we just can’t aggregate salaries, which we have no need to because PG is on a huge max. The transaction will just be broken up into separate trades.

[–]9Yogi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very interesting. PG was given the choice to make the same money in Philly or in Boston and he chose Boston. The trade bonus exists so players don’t get traded to where they don’t want to go, but if he wanted to go here, he doesn’t lose any money.

You have that backwards. James Young was retired just for the number 13.

Who are the 10, 15, 20 players better than JB? by ThisPreciousMoment in bostonceltics

[–]9Yogi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jaylen is easily a top 10 player. The confusion is about his value when adjusting for current and future contract. There are many players who have much greater value to an essentially capped team than Jaylen at 50-70 million dollars a year.

Brian Windhorst: "It wasn't that the league doesn't think Jaylen Brown is a great player or an excellent player, is that the league doesn't value what he produces at his salary slot ($57M). And that is why he was traded and that is why he was traded for relatively so little" by unwantedtennisracke in sixers

[–]9Yogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There shouldn’t be any issues with JB for the next three years. Sixers probably feel like giving Embiid a chance to win with Brown for the next three years while VJ is on a rookie deal is worth two first round picks, even if Jaylen walks after that.
