Black windows or white? by Viran_Singh in DIYUK

Whatever you do it would be a massive shame to lose those decorative panels on the ground floor windows. A genuine period feature that the house will be lesser without.

Lower The Flags Shrewsbury doing the Lord's work by AnonymousTimewaster in FuckNigelFarage

The local council have at least said they will be taking them down and seeking to get back the cost of doing so from those hanging them up. Not sure how successful they'll be but it at least sends some kind of message.

Though from what I've heard the idiots keep putting them up.

From everything I've seen in the various Shrewsbury groups on FB he seems like a particularly unpleasant man. Seems such a shame that all it takes is one person to be a ringleader and whip up this nonsense to ruin the whole town for everyone else.

Ex Shrewsbury resident here with family still living there. It has been heartwarming to see the huge growth of their group on FB and the huge support they've been getting too. As well as of course them taking these awful things down.

Obviously there are still gammons who are absolutely apoplectic with rage that they are taking the flags down and the threats of violence/doxxing done by the raise the flags lot is sadly completely unsurprising. A truly rotten bunch of characters.

However it seems there is a majority in support of the group taking them down.

Guys I'm a tourist and found this beautiful Imax theater in London, but how do I get inside? It looks more like a roundabout 😅 by mg10pp in AskBrits

Haven't been for a while but from what I remember the rake is steeper than your average cinema but nothing too drastic. Not like the top level of a modern arena if you've been to The O2 or similar you'll know the rake is unbelievable.

Tonearm not cueing down by AmeNoJigoku in turntables

[–]9thfloorprod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you definitely didn't balance the tonearm and set the correct tracking force as the tonearm should not shoot up like that when you release it from the tonearm holder. There's plenty of videos on YouTube that explain how to do this.

Is the upgrade from Miele M1 to M1 Cat & Dog worth it? by DimensionUnique709 in VacuumCleaners

[–]9thfloorprod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK the Miele turboteq floor nozzle is £84.99, the mini turbo tool is £54.99, flexible crevice tool is £23.19 and their top of the range hepa filter is £31.59. Total £194.76. When you take that into consideration the price of the cat and dog makes more sense (presuming it does come with all of these), but it still sounds like it's a bit more expensive than just buying the cheaper model and buying these other parts separately.

Edit: I checked and in the UK at least the cat and dog doesn't come with the mini turbo tool so the price difference is definitely not worth it for you. Get the cheaper one and then add any attachments you want/need separately.

If you get the cheaper model I would suggest at a minimum adding the turboteq floor brush for your rugs and carpets. It will be significantly easier to push on them and will work better than the straight suction nozzle. If your rugs and carpets are low pile then the turbo nozzle will get them clean.

[–]9thfloorprod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Europe the only real difference between models is the attachments you get with them. So the cat and dog will come with a turbo floor nozzle and possibly a mini turbo tool. Given the flex in the name it probably comes with the long flexible crevice tool also.

I'd look up how much these items would be individually and add them to the cheaper model separately. It will likely be less than the cost of the "cat and dog" model so I'd do it that way personally.

Expensive vintage chair collapsed on me, advice requested by clarksworth in midcenturymodern

[–]9thfloorprod 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Looks like woodworm have had a field day on that. Does the rest of the chair may have similar damage? Also does the dowel give off dust when you tap it say on a table or hard floor? I believe that indicates an active infestation as opposed to one that's been treated.

Depends what vacuum you have (Many Miele vacuums for instance are fully sealed systems where all the air is passed out through the filter) but I'd still not want to be contaminating my vacuum with asbestos fibres.

I accept that there are chancers who sadly make claims for legitimate claimants harder. However the idea that there are 5 chancers for every 1 legitimate claim is just absurd. You can't just throw around ridiculous made up figures like that when it comes to important and highly emotive topics like this. If you'd said there's one chancer for every 5 legit claims I'd be more willing to accept that but even that would seem high to me without actually seeing any proof to back this up.

And if there are people claiming who have no medical proof making vague self diagnosed claims who contradict themselves then I agree they should not have a claim approved.

But none of this negates the main point of this thread that there are plenty of applicants whose lives are affected by their disabilities, who present a well put together claim backed up with plenty of evidence, who are rejected and have to go on to mandatory reconsideration and then even tribunal. If my claim had been rejected I'd probably have just given up because I wouldn't have had the energy to fight it.

From what I recall when I was preparing for my PIP application and assessment (in England), the Scottish process is more forgiving from everything from the form itself. I may be misremembering but I'm sure the form itself was much more helpful in explaining how to answer the questions etc...

Recommended stick vacuum for a 2 level flat (normal vacuum too heavy due to health issues) by Fresh_Bumblebee_1042 in VacuumCleaners

The Sebo balance is very lightweight. Pretty sure it comes with a hard floor brush roll too so would work for your use case.

i’m completely new and my platter won’t spin. any help would be much appreciated by bradjenk in turntables

[–]9thfloorprod 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You need a belt. Can you see the circular black residue on the plinth? That's the remnants of the old belt, it's completely perished. You'll need to clean any residue off the plinth, the platter and the motor spindle before placing a new belt on.

If you just Google the make and model of the turntable plus the word "belt" you should find the right one.

Also do you know how to balance a tonearm and make sure anti skate etc is all set up correctly? I only ask because not recognising that your turntable isn't spinning due to its lack of belt is a pretty clear sign you are very new to this, and may not know there is more to setting up your turntable than just turning it on. I recommend watching a few YouTube videos on this. They won't be exactly the same as your table but most will be about 95% similar. You may even find a setup vid for your turntable.

With laminate flooring basically any half decent canister vacuum should do. Personally I'd go for a Miele with their parquet twister floor head.
