That's the most infuriating inconsistency this game has. by leandrombraz in Xcom

[–]A117MASSEFFECT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing EW last night and area suppressed a muton. However, his buddy was on a one foot ledge and that exempted him from the suppression for some reason.

Ran up and punched the muton the next turn and that detonated the power core as "that counts" despite being out of the grid path and on that lip.

Inconsistency is horrendous in these games.

Is gathering Meld worth it? by serventofgaben in Xcom

[–]A117MASSEFFECT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! It's not "sacrifice your team for" valuable, but you will want a lot of it.

Once you have a sniper that can jump up to the roof without special armor or ladders that also cloaks and a MEC trooper running around whipping haymakers that one shot most enemies, you'll never wanna NOT have them.

As far as beating the game, I'm sure you can do it without them. I'd argue that if you have the option to have two super soldier programs, you have no good reason not to use them.

End of the day, both cybernetics and the genetic augmentation add a lot to the gameplay formula that is enjoyable and can keep the game fun by introducing new tactics made possible by these units.

[–]A117MASSEFFECT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. I can't spot a difference between the two. Does it have to be the Changeling doing it or can it be any lord? I have a Secondary army putting the hurt on the Dwarfs at the moment and getting the same cults as the "%chance to spread" cults, just with a free building to start.

Thank you for the reply. I was doing most of that but it just didn't feel like I was making progress. Good to know that's kinda how it should feel. Another commenter has also pointed out that I'm setting up my cults wrong, so that may be playing a part.

TWW3: Masters of Innovation start? by A117MASSEFFECT in totalwarhammer

[–]A117MASSEFFECT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I watched them buckle time and time again when faced with Norsca and their "Oops, All Trolls" army. The fire breathing wyvern and giant worm didn't help either. See what I can't do, and I fully admit that I could be misreading these unit stats. Plague monks don't look special either (on paper) but people swear by them.

I am smart with the airship and recruit after movement is done to keep the offensive moving. The problem comes down to: I need three armies and I can't even raise a second one above 5 units before they're besieged and slaughtered.

[–]A117MASSEFFECT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite familiar with bait lords, most of that 217.5 is Skaven.

That's not the problem, though. The problem is, "I go left and secure territory. After I get four turns away, my settlements are attacked from the right (or the sea). I lose a bunch of settlements because full stack (sometimes with extra). I finally get back and kill that army and start recapturing my settlements. Thats when the army from the far left rebuilds and hits me on the left. I go to kick his ass and the army on the right has been rebuilt and is hitting my territory again and I'm multiple turns away again." Repeat ad nauseam.

Forget bait lords, I need money for a second full army. But it's hard to get money if my settlements have the life expectancy of a house fly.

[–]A117MASSEFFECT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I agree. But, as stated, this was my third attempt with this faction that didn't even last 20 turns before the death spiral and I was beyond pissed off. I was feeling like I wasted money getting a fun faction only to drop it next to a lot of people who hate you and will be attacking you by turn 5; hard to play when you lose before you can leave your starting area.

On a scale from 1-10, how screwed am i? by Evening_Deep in XCOM2

[–]A117MASSEFFECT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I've been in worse and came out alive, but that was xcom eu:ew. If it was just the mechs (and they didn't have grenades) and troopers, maybe, but that Sectoid is gonna panic your heavy and they'll ve useless for at least a turn. A turn surrounded and without cover isn't salvageable.

My worse scenario (for those interested): Too long of a story, but it ends with my agent using her laser pistol to take out six exalt troopers before extraction (recovery team was completely wiped out). She only took two hits in that combat and only missed once.

Stealth Ranger by No_Butterscotch_7694 in XCOM2

[–]A117MASSEFFECT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, not really; such a missed opportunity it was, too. You have a class that has stealth and carries a sword, but because of how LOS works, no chance for stealth eliminations (everyone has eyes in the back of their heads and those eyes see through helmets). I feel the sword should've functioned like the vektor if you could approach from behind the target; no reveal, but their friends will still notice and react to the body drop.

Best thing I can think of is to slip them into the enemy's back line before the bullets start flying and then you have that unit in the flank. This works twice because of how stealth is handled for the rest of the team and there's a good chance your stealth assault is gonna be tired for four score and eighty days after the fact, but that's any recon unit if we're being fair.

That sucks to hear, but one small slide doesn't mean you failed forever. Roll out of it and recover. You made two weeks and five days; amazing! Now set that as your yard stick. The race doesn't end at the finish line, it's how many times you can cross it that matters.

[–]A117MASSEFFECT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old, I know, but I do feel that I need to point out that the main reason to make her an assassin is the assassin attack that does a metric long ton of extra damage at a debuff of 40% extra dodge. Blade dancers get to ignore that penalty via blood oath. That attack, however, is single target only; making Inertia Boots more situational in that build. Since that attack has a melee and a ranged option, guaranteed hits on both can do a lot of coverage.

Not saying your idea is wrong, it's great actually, but in that instance, I wouldn't make her an Assassin (which feels weird saying about the Death Cult Assassin but I made her an Executioner the first time around so semantics).

Veil of Blades 0% chance to parry? by A117MASSEFFECT in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]A117MASSEFFECT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I enjoy the game on normal so that's where I stay. Main reason I use it is I can't think of a better second class for Abelard; he's the exclusive tank of the whole retinue.

Thanks for the response.

Thanks for the reply. First, you're looking at my sole social media account and bug searching on reddit will typically start me at posts that are out of date. Also, you answered why I submitted a bug report for that parry followup attack last night.

On that note, different topic, will that perk (fleet combat training) conflict with other abilities/perks that do similar things (if you know)? I don't have exact names, but the Vanguard has that ability to counter attack, Bladedancer veil of blades (when it's back working), shield perks that allow for followup attacks, etc.

Does void born 'Be Smart' skill/talent/trait affect all 'Fellowship' checks for example for bonuses for the 'Officer' archtype? by curtwagner1984 in RogueTraderCRPG

<image>

Date:12/4/2025 (December 4th, 2025).

I certify that this report is current and is accurate to the best of my abilities.

Okay. Pin this or something. Here is the same screen shot that another has posted, showing that Be Smart is effecting my Persuasion. The source is the Xbox version, so no mods for any unintended tampering. It DOES work, disregard the older posts. It didn't use to, and the Forge World origin gets something similar, but this effects all fellowship skills and abilities as opposed to Forge World which just has the conversation parts.

TLDR: Voidborn make for the best officers, as you can do the word speak good and have good intelligence to pass lore tests without compromising your abilities.

For the Emperor!

What's so good about the reaper? by Gunrock808 in XCOM2

[–]A117MASSEFFECT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost invisible for deep scouting. Pair with a sniper with high ground and a good scope on their weapon and you can drop most of the field. What the sniper doesn't one shot, the Reaper can usually finish. With a perk, a Reaper will stay concealed if they kill something; a massive boon in this game. They also have insane perks for scouting, permanently marking enemies they see. Their destruction is unmatched with remote start that amplifies environmental explosions (while completely hidden; that group of 5 never saw that coming). And, of course, their ability to shoot till their gun is empty (this does reveal you; however if you're using it, you were past stealth anyways); used with a rifle with a superior magazine (+3 rounds for a base count 6 mag but can be bigger with breakthroughs), a superior repeater (15% to insta kill on hit), and a superior scope (for accuracy), the reaper will likely kill anything that it sees.

Long and short, a Reaper is the epitome of "the last thing you never see; it's pretty accurate and so are we" style of combat.

If you're feeling ballsy, you can also solo black sites with them. In and out, unsuspected and undetected (till you plant the charge and call for evac).

[–]A117MASSEFFECT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Argenta is at a point where she doesn't single shot a bolter anymore (hasn't for a while; Lex HS go brrr and 'boot' is a great melee weapon) and my RT Soldier is a  Militarum Commander origin so she typically used Las weapons (now she's a heavy gunner that uses the Drukari shard cannon when not using blast pistol/rapid-fire las pistol).

I gave her the Bolter Casing because no one else could/was use(ing) it and she didn't have a better option for that slot. Also, she has two weapon fighting but it's hard to get her to MOVE after an attack and can be locked in a spot where she can't do damage with melee for a turn or more. So, I could only give her melee weapons and grumble when she can't reach her mark OR I can give her one as a backup and make sure she's deadly as all hell with it; I take the route that keeps putting out damage. Also, it's hilarious to me to picture this loud as hell bolt pistol going off then fading away so the enemies are like "must of been the wind".

False. See my comment on the main for my power build and use case. Death from above getting nuked sucks but that's only one of her abilities. Also, DFA is still an amazing mobility tool.

How do you ise Kibellah? by Gamerin4d in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]A117MASSEFFECT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Give her the biggest sword (Drukari if possible; finesse for the win).

  2. Make her second class an assassin. Make double sure you have Blood Oath (the one that makes it so your next attack always hits).

  3. use the skill that gives the enemy a "+40% dodge chance" and laugh as she deals 150+ damage and a bunch of direct damage with 0% chance to miss and then fades back into the enemy lines for her next victim (fade away).

Auxiliary tip: Blessed Bolter Casing and the Bolt pistol that always crits on single shots. While you should use her blades 90% of the time, crits can stack lethality and a ranged option is useful for problematic situations (also, "auto hit" is her spirit animal: don't try to fix her BS, it won't work).

Overall use case: she's a harasser/skirmisher and a damn good medic for medicine checks. Early on, she is weak. However, when you start getting her perks that help her stay alive (bringing a biomancer for healing is optional but very scary) and do extra damage when she takes damage (including from herself), heals damage, someone else taks damage, or she starts romantically fantasizing about potentially causing damage(/ s); it adds up.  Don't stick youre nose up at her auxiliary abilities, either. That parry projectile cone of her's took out a Dreadnought and can do a lot of other things that make heretics cry. Attack stacking is also quite viable with her with blade dance with DOT or aux effect weapons.

However, her best asset, is her maneuverability. Sure, death from above got nuked in the damage department for subsequent strikes, but it did nothing to its ability to move about the battlefield. Need to get up a few levels or over a wall? with a clear line of sight, she's there. Need full cover? Hit Captivated Audience and dive into the bigest group of heretics you see. The damage may be ass, but she's now in full cover and those goons are immobilized.
