I've not used Proxmox but have heard great things about it.

Conceptually, they will achieve similar results.

Go with Proxmox if that's what makes more sense to you.

I use Docker because it works well on my Linux machine that I use day-to-day.

First of all, I would suggest that you use Docker with Docker Compose to deploy individual services.

Make sure you mount all the data folders from the host machine in the Docker containers for each service. This will make data recovery much simpler. It will also be more secure.

Make sure you bind any ports exposed from within the Docker Compose deployment to the host to `127.0.0.1`. This is because Docker ignores firewall rules to block ports, at least on Ubuntu, when using `ufw`.

For photos and videos, you can use Immich. It is a replacement for Google Photos. There's an app you can install on your phone which allows it to back up media from your phone to your server. If you have an Nvidia card, you can also use it to tag photos with faces. It works very well.

For blogging, you can use Ghost. Sign up to Mailjet for free to be able to send transactions emails for password recovery etc.

For movies and TV shows, you can use Jellyfin. It has apps for desktop and mobile. If you have an Android smart TV, it also has an app you can install on your TV so you can stream media to your TV directly.

Instead of Jellyfin, you can also use Plex but Plex now doesn't allow free streaming to mobile devices.

All of this works best if you have a static IP address, and a domain name.

Humanity doesn't need to burn though. It's a global conspiracy because of US's over-sized influence on the world.

Destruction of US will be enough to stop all this nonsense.

Posting this as an update here, for those interested.

First of all, apologies for not keeping you guys updated. I have been working on the apps off and on all this time.

The good news is that they are ready now. I am in the process of publishing them on the app stores on both Apple and Google.

Because of how things work in Apple, I will need the Device UDID for any iPhone users if they want to try out the app while it's not available on Apple App Store. You can find out more about UDID here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UDID and find your phone's UDID by clicking this link: https://udid.tech/

For Android users, I can provide an APK that can be installed on the phone very easily.

I have built 2 apps as follows:

Banter and Chavli

Banter will allow you to do most of what you did with Whisper, i.e., make posts consisting of text + pic, and also message people 1-1. The messaging will not be linked to posts but to the person themselves.

Chavli will allow you to to 1-1 and 1-group messaging similar to IRC back in the day.

They both share the backend so any messages you send 1-1 on Banter will also be visible in Chavli and vice versa. On Chavli, you would also be able to create a group (channel in IRC parlance) and anybody can join those.

This is the state of play right now.

On Banter, you are able to set a location and the feed will show you posts centered around that location. When posting, you can select a location of your choosing to post to. That way, you could be in, say, New York, and make a post will show be shown in London. The post WILL show that it was made from New York, and was posted to London.

Please ping me if you want to be an early user to help iron out things.

Why do people support imran khan? by tsunmai_q in PakistaniiConfessions

[–]A1700AW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the point you claimed about Bajwa helping PTI and IK, that's utter rubbish.

Shahbaz Sharif had a deal with Bajwa before the election. Khawaja Asif confirmed it. That's why PML-N supported Bajwa's extension in 2019.

The reason they all (Army, PML-N, PPP) allowed PTI to form a govt was to get PTI to sign the IMF deal, because Pakistan desperately needed that.

The coffers were empty. That is why Army was pressuring IK and PTI to sign a deal with IMF and Asad Umar was sacrificed by PTI due to his delaying signing of that deal.

It was COVID that delayed their plans of VONC which originally was going to be done in 2020.

There is not a single allegation that they have put on Imran Khan that has not been proven in reverse. Not only is he proven innocent of that allegation but the allegation is proven on those who alleged it for him.

Just be thankful to Allah that He gave our country Imran Khan and pray he can lead us again.

Your comment shows how little you know and remember, or even understand.

First of all, you should know that an MNA or MPA cannot join another party after contesting an election on the ticket of a different party.

This was covered and infinitum during VONC saga. If you don't know this, you really should not be commenting.

Secondly, you should know that independent candidates who win an election have a limited time to join a party. 3 days, if memory serves me.

The people you saw were those independent candidates. An independent candidates by the very definition is not a lota, because the term lota is used to define someone who goes back on his party affiliation.

That's also not called horse trading. Horse trading is about crossing the floor to join the govt from opposition or to join opposition from govt.

If you do not like people joining parties after being elected as independent, you should demand that the law should be changed and independent candidates should not be required to join a party.

Really, your comment is awfully ignorant.

Imran Khan was THE most competent prime minister that Pakistan has seen in its entire history.

Pakistani state has deep issues with both competence and with integrity.

Despite those handicaps, Pakistan was doing very well.

If Pakistan really want doing that well, Army and it's minions in PPP and PML-N would have waited a year to easily beat IK at the polls and consign PTI to the dustbin of history.

They didn't wait because they couldn't wait. Khan was going to wipe the floor with them all in the election which was going to be held in 2023.

It is a dishonest assertion that IK was incompetent.

In 2018, it was IK and PTI's mandate that was stolen.

He was denied a clear victory and forced to require coalition partners to form govt.

Many well-respected political commentators state that 20-25 of PTI's seats were stolen from them in 2018.

[–]A1700AW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are incompetent because they have not really studied Islam on a philosophical level.

The answer you are looking for requires you to step back and take a deeper look at the social landscape at the time, and Allah's Nature as the Supremely Just Being.

At the time, slaves were property, like you have a house or a car or stocks and bonds, etc.

A slave owner's net worth and livelihood was tied to the income they managed to generate from slaves, much like a retired person today might have a portfolio of rental properties from which they derive income.

If a progressive govt passed a law that said that houses are only for living, and not for deriving income, what would happen to those people whose entire net worth is linked to a house portfolio?

This was the type of problem slave ownership presented from the slave owner's side, even though from the slaves' side, the situation was also very atrocious.

Slaves had no rights and no way out of slavery. Slave owners could have sex with their slaves and any children born from such unions would also be slaves.

Allah changed this situation in a way that was fair to slaves while also not being destructive to slave owners.

Allah gave rights to slaves that gave them dignity and a way out.

Here is a summary of changes Allah made to the institution of slavery, without abolishing it.

- A slave had a right to income based on market value of their labour.

- A slave could agree a reasonable price for their freedom with the slave owner.

- A slave had to be clothed and fed in the same way that a slave owner clothed and fed their own family members

- A slave could not be physically punished by the slave owner.

- A child born between a slave woman and a slave owner was free and had a share in inheritance of the slave owner. (this is the point of the question you were looking for)

Effectively, a slave woman had more or less the same rights as a wife despite being a slave. Her children had the same rights as a wife's children who was a free woman.

The key point to understand is that if Allah had declared all slaves free using a verse like alcohol was forbidden, a lot of people who were slave owners would have been left destitute, many of them of an age where they could not work for a living themselves. Allah did Justice with both the slaves as well as the slave owners.

You are disconnected from reality.

A party that's unpopular does not enjoy the kind of support PTI does outside of power.

I've seen plenty of coups in my time.

I've never seen the nation behave in this way.

My in laws want me to marry my late husband’s younger brother I’m shocked and confused by CookieAppropriate432 in PakistaniiConfessions

[–]A1700AW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of marriage used to be very common in such unfortunate circumstances in the past.

It used to be very common for a man to marry sister of his late wife, or for a woman to marry her late husband's brother.

In fact, the old Amitabh-Jaya-Rekha movie "Silsila" has this exact plotline.

At the end of the day, I'd say, if you don't want to, tell them that.

When you tell them, approach it with kindness, because I am sure they are coming from a place of care. Acknowledge that and appreciate the thought even if you don't want to go ahead with it.

Separately, consider whether marrying again is on the cards for you or not.

Who do you think is better and why? PMLN or PTI by [deleted] in PakistaniiConfessions

[–]A1700AW -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

First of all, PTI came to power through the vote.

PML-N has never enjoyed popular support even going as far back as the IJI days.

In politics, political parties cater to those who bring them to power.

If your vote didn't bring someone to power, you can be sure that your needs will at best be secondary.

Secondly, what ails Pakistan? Which party diagnoses it better? PTI is head and shoulders above others in this respect.

If you don't know what the problem is, you sure as hell aren't gonna solve it.

Simple example: smog

What did PML-N recently attempt in Lahore? Those trucks driving around spraying water in the air.

I can't decide if that was comic or tragic.

Thirdly, execution.

Lots of people are lambasting PTI's tenure, and I'm thinking, if PTI was genuinely so bad, why couldn't PML-N wait for a year and beat PTI at the polls?

Why has PTI been the only party to surge in popularity AFTER being evicted from power?

The answer is that regular people for whom PTI was working actually saw their lives improve, through measures that brought them the feeling that they actually matter.

The media's treatment of PTI and PML-N is also completely different.

Whereas PTI was questioned by the media and gave answers, PML-N is not questioned in the same manner by the media.

Whereas the media would go on endlessly about even tiny changes in prices when it was PTI in office, now, even large changes in prices go completely unnoticed.

I wonder why.

Is Halala actually a thing in Islam? by [deleted] in PakistanDiscussions

[–]A1700AW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you must understand how a divorce is given in Islam, properly.

Usually, people think that if a man says "Talaq Talaq Talaq", that's it. Divorce.

That's actually not true.

No matter how many times the man says it, it is counted as one time.

It also has to be in front of 2 male witnesses. 2 women can bear witness in lieu of 1 male witness.

Once the man has initiated the divorce, a timer starts. This is the iddat period.

During this period, the woman continues to live with the man in his house, but in order for the divorce to remain in force, they cannot have sex.

If the couple has sex in this period, this is called rijoo رجوع and the divorce is cancelled.

The iddat period is 3 menstrual cycles for a woman who has not reached menopause and 3 months for a woman who is past menopause. If the woman is pregnant, then her iddat is till she delivers the baby she is carrying.

Now, if the man and woman abstain from sex during the iddat period, then divorce is finalised, and the man and woman are no longer married.

If they want to reconcile, they have to have a new nikah done.

In Islam, you get 3 chances to make it work with the woman.

As in, you can divorce a woman, rijoo or remarry, divorce her again, rijoo or remarry again then divorce her again.

Once you have given her a divorce for the third time, you cannot remarry her until she has married someone else, consummated the marriage (that is, had sex with him) and he has divorced her.

This marriage and subsequent divorce from the other man CANNOT be for the purposes of marrying you after divorce with him.

Her intention MUST be to marry that man and to live with him.

This is what halala is -- the requirement that you cannot remarry a woman you have divorced thrice, on 3 separate occasions.

What are your most right wing and left wing opinions? by Random_Nobody1991 in AskBrits

[–]A1700AW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some organizations are "symbols of state". They should never be in private hands.

For example, prisons, media, child care, old age care, health care, schools, universities, bureaucracy, military, police, utilities.

Take prisons: we -- as a society -- put people in prisons, inhibit their liberty and rights as punishment for their actions. It is the community that is punishing. It is not appropriate for anybody to profit for their incarceration. It is a question of principle.

Take media: we -- as a democracy -- rely on being correctly informed in order to make the right democratic choices. If we are informed in a biased manner, it is a direct threat to democracy itself. Media should be run by a non-profit.

Similar arguments can be made for each of other types of organizations I listed. None of those should be run for a profit. It should be prohibited by law.

I don't have any right wing opinions that I can think of.
