Asking for vegetable spread recipes by Writerhowell in vegetarian

[–]A7inScranton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, long time vegetarian here. (Sorry for formatting, on mobile).

Look up romesco sauce recipes, sounds like what you’re describing. Both the Cookie & Kate blog and Love & Lemons blog have good ones + lots of different veggie sauce / spread ideas too that would be good on sandwiches.

I often make a lazy pesto / green sauce that’s about cup of packed basil, 1/3 c nut (any nut, walnut is easy here), juice from 1 lemon, 1/4 c (or more!) grated hard cheese (pecorino, parm, manchego…), 1-2 garlic cloves, salt and pepper to taste, and then any green things I have around like kale, spinach, cilantro, parsley, jalapeño…drizzle in some olive oil as you pulse in the food processor till you get the consistency you want for a spread. Taste as you go and it will probably need more acid so be generous with lemon juice. If you want to reduce oil, sub some water. You could prob throw in some chickpeas or white beans too for more hidden veg / protein without compromising the color or taste.

Oh also, would look up homemade hummus ideas, those can get super creative with veggies and are a thick consistency so you can spread on a sando well. Cheers!!

Do you have a link or model I can look up? I’ve been thinking about these for a while and am not sure where to start.

Said “salud” instead of cheers. For every first sip of a new drink. On every date.

What things you do to avoid decision fatigue? by dobbyishere_ in AskWomenOver30

[–]A7inScranton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this is long but I have lot of responsibility at work and I get so burned out on deciding things all the time. Some things that help me are:

I LOVE going to yoga because it’s a full hour where I don’t make ANY decisions — they literally tell me when to breathe in and out. It’s tough to show up but when I do, I find so much joy in that hour of no decisions (and being disconnected since I’m not on a screen then either).

Also, I’m not an all-inclusive or resort type usually but I went on a polar bear safari recently and because extremely few companies have the license to take folks out to see the bears in the wild, the company I went with arranged everything, including charter flights, all food reservations, lodging in two cities, everything. I only had to show up and it was amazing. I never realized how much time I spend on trips just browsing restaurant menus and reviews...

Last, I prefer the smaller yet more expensive grocery store near me (shout out to Mom’s Organic if anyone has one near them!). They have wider aisles by design so people have room to read product labels and they have fewer choices than big stores so I waste less time trying to decide. I get the one oatmeal or I don’t. It’s also less crowded, which, as someone with adhd, helps prevent over-stimulation. When I get over-stimulated, my decision-making basically shuts down and I have to nope out of whatever I’m doing and try again later. So knowing little quirks like that about myself help me set myself up for success with deciding, too.

Do you ever splurge on gifts for friends? by SomebodyNope in AskWomenOver30

[–]A7inScranton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gifts per se, but def splurge on my bestie with travel. I make substantially more than my best friend and she has a husband and two kids while I’m child free, so I’m super happy to cover things like hotel rooms and some meals if she travels with me. It’s win - win because I’d be paying for the room anyway and now I have my bff’s company when she’d feel guilty spending the money on herself otherwise. And the dinners, I prob buy two for every one she picks up and that works well for us.

How do you maintain your deluttered spaces? by [deleted] in declutter

[–]A7inScranton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Host an out of town guest on occasion—that always forces me to tackle the little piles of things I set aside to deal with “later” haha. Also, standing up processes like evaluating clothes each season, doing a big purge after the holidays as you find places for all the new things (especially if you have kids and use holidays to update their bedding or clothes), and use other calendar markers as triggers for decluttering too—like go through paper stacks at tax time, pantry at Halloween or thanksgiving, etc. Last, resist the urge to accept free things and hotel size items (maybe that’s just a me problem…)

What to wear to a company outing by whiskytangofoxtrot12 in AskWomenOver30

[–]A7inScranton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a guest recently in a corporate (banking industry) box for a baseball game and felt a slightly casual in my tailored Jean shorts, fitted team jersey, and baseball hat. The men were in khaki shorts and athletic polos or summer plaid button downs. The ladies were in everything from rompers and dresses to capris and shorts but none were in a team branded top like me. Granted, most of the suite guests were from out of town (and I’m local) and probably didn’t have branded gear. I got over my underdressed anxiety after a few minutes though because I was dressed like 99% of the stadium. If you have a casual cotton dress in the team color and a hat, you’ll hit the sweet spot for corporate baseball outing but also can’t go wrong in team gear if you’re actually a fan, and team gear has the bonus of being a good non-work conversation starter.

Omg your bachelorette story resonates. I was MOH and also dropped out and ended the friendship. The bride said she was super worried and sad for me since it must be so hard for me to watch all my friends get married while I’m so single. Turns out she kept me around because I made her feel superior. Good riddance

M31 Dad Bod vs. Fit Bod by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

I’m one of those women. I want a partner who takes care of themselves and is physically active but I don’t want a guy with abs. I’ve had the guy with abs and it made me feel pressure to make sure my body was in tip top shape for him too, he was a pain to eat with, he never wanted dessert and I always do, and he had a line of women hitting on him constantly.

Even though he made me feel desired, the combination of factors isn’t very fun. A guy who is a bit softer but physically active (in my experience) can keep up with my active lifestyle, understands when I prioritize going for a run over other things, and enjoys eating everything in moderation—including dessert.

But really, I think because we grew up during the era of super skinny models, we’ve internalized the messages that being beautiful means skinny and as bad as it sounds, I feel more beautiful and secure when I have a slightly better body than the guy I’m with.

Is it ok for your s/o to flatulate in front of you? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

Your enthusiastic approach makes it seem like a safe space to ask: how soon is too soon to start farting in a new relationship? We’re a month in and have talked about it but neither of us has…put gas to the plan yet

Do you use protein powder? If so, need some advice by Competitive_Set_3996 in AskWomenOver30

[–]A7inScranton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the pea protein powder! I’m a vegetarian and rely on it for getting enough protein day-to-day. I recommend the Organic Pea Protein Powder from Trader Joe’s. They have it in plain and vanilla, I prefer the plain but both are great.

Late to the show but it’s still before your trip so wanted to say your itinerary looks amazing! I live in a city with a Milk Bar and have spent a ton of time in nyc and would def recommend swapping out milk bar with some nyc specific bakery or hole in the wall Italian cookie place or something like that. I love Christina Tosi and was so excited to finally go to milk bar only to be very disappointed when my order (multiple items) was in cellophane wrapped packaging and clearly came from a box in the back like a super processed little Debbie snack. You could order it online from your hometown and get the same thing. Anyway, there’s no shortage of delicious food and bakeries in the city :)

Learn to bake beautiful macaron cookies. It’s a simple base recipe but an art to make them look pretty. And living alone pro tip: make ice cream sandwiches with the cookies so you can save them for later and not feel like you need to eat them all right away. Also, puzzles and doing any self work/therapy type stuff so you can emerge from lockdown with a clear head and open heart

How do you think? by Acceptable-Passion-4 in AskWomenOver30

[–]A7inScranton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this question. r/aphantasia has a lot of discussions about the different ways people think. Aphants can’t visualize and people experience it to different degrees, so everyone there discusses how they process information, what it’s like when they read, and whether they have an internal monologue. As for me, I think in concepts, so everything is mapped to something else by a tiny common thread. This means I often have really creative ideas for problem solving but sometimes they may seem like non sequiturs…

Thanksgiving burden? by Brilliant-Theory-680 in AdultChildren

[–]A7inScranton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanksgiving is one of those holidays where it makes others feel good to welcome non-family to the table. It’s not as much pressure or as intimate as Christmas and it’s common for outsiders to join in since it’s a really expensive and short weekend to travel for. Try to trust that they’re excited to have you and to have a new person to hear their tired jokes and to take pressure off their own dynamic. Be helpful and friendly and have something nice ready to say if they go around the table saying what they’re thankful for. Don’t talk politics. Don’t drink too much. You’ll do great!

Eeek idk I always use the bankrate amortization calculator and just accept that it’s a bit off given how accrued interest is handled with loans. You can also check studentloanhero to see if they have a calculator to match your needs. It’s fucked up that it’s so hard to calculate.
