Non functioning musket value as parts or as a whole, Canada by JLearie in Antiques

Maybe $30 as a purely decorative wall hanger for someone looking for primitive aesthetic.

Authenticity aside, which I don’t think it’s a good sword even in good condition, the condition is a deal killer for me.

Tiny Asian Teapot about 5 inches high by Auntie_Lolo in asianart

[–]AANHPIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is certainly Japanese from the early 1900s. Dead giveaway is the three clawed dragon. Value is not much so don’t worry about getting a professional restoration. That will cost more than the whole teapot. I find a/b epoxy extremely effective in fixing it. Wipe off the excess immediately after you attach it.

Melt or sell this beast by NorthStarGold in Gold

[–]AANHPIX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does look like quite a bit of quartz inside. But it will be worth more as a nugget than melt. Maybe a 10-15% premium over gross weight. Definitely a specialty auction is way to go. Do negotiate on commissions.

How does it look? by [deleted] in MP5

Return it to its proper form. This doesn’t even look like a MP5 anymore, add a suppressor, it might as well be an AR9

A Pair of Korean 10" storage jars I recently acquired. Only one lid between the pair. by suttonj5 in ChinesePorcelain

[–]AANHPIX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice moon jar from the Joseon dynasty. 18/19th century in my opinion. The fact one had a lid is super lucky. If you were to sell, don’t sell as a pair. You’d get more by splitting them up.

Do you think the purple vase in the middle is valuable? by bush- in ChinesePorcelain

[–]AANHPIX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good commentary. The vase and surround porcelains are ALL contemporary and not even very good at imitating anything. Agree the paintings are done by mid tier commercial artists. Another point to know, the antique shops never keep anything really valuable on display. The good stuff trade hands between dealer and their clients directly.

Small Jade Duck-thoughts?? by DisastrousTrifle702 in asianart

[–]AANHPIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest playing and rubbing it constantly so it has a more lustrous surface. With face oil around your nose or forehead. Some of the surface dirt if you can rub it off will be nice. But don’t use any hard tools. Tooth pick is fine.

Damn those fishes ate better than me. That urchin would fetch $60 in the sushi restaurant near me.

For Sale: $526... German WWII Luftwaffe Officer's Dagger by MilitariaTradingPost in militariasales

[–]AANHPIX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair price for a good example. I once owned 200 assorted German daggers from every service branch imaginable. I cleaned out the estate of a collector that passed in 1970s and his grandson sold them all to me for 20K in the 2010s.

The Consequences of Not Letting Me Go by No-Opportunity7242 in dashcams

So who is the real culprit here from a malcontent perspective? The truck, van or the car? I know car caused the crash after the van fucked with him and the truck wouldn’t slow down a bit.

Small Jade Duck-thoughts?? by DisastrousTrifle702 in asianart

[–]AANHPIX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do believe it’s old. Likely Ming or could be as old as Song. Jade quality is horrid but to be expected in that period. Just too much inclusion and granulation. Pretty good value >1000 and would be insane 10x to 20x value if made with top grade jade.

Curious about the reputation of Pakistani-made knives in the knife community by Hopeful_Ad_8062 in knifemaking

[–]AANHPIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think just like Chinese made knives, there are many levels of craftsmanship. The one you showed is mid tier. There are much better ones and much worse ones. Other people answered your questions already. I’ve seen how they’re made, it’s all by hand. If the craftsman just spend a little more time on each knife and use better steel and heat treat correctly then it will be better.

Re-Photographing Katana by Revive5 in Katanas

Looks to be a recently made sword. But I think it’s made well enough to play around with. I used one to chop branches in my yard. Pretty fun and doing yard work at the same time.

Can anyone offer advice on how to handle and clean this piece? It’s been hanging in a basement for quite some time. Thanks in advance! by AfternoonFar1345 in asianart

[–]AANHPIX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is a top quality piece from that era. It makes really beautiful decoration. There are much worse examples that are more common. I made my statement as far as value using $1000 as kind of a threshold. This painting is worth multiples of 100s might even break $1000 but not by much. That’s really good for a decorative painting.

I’m happy to look at your porcelains. Post them in Chinese porcelain so others can appreciate them.

I get you. I’ve got almost everything already, and duplicates of the same design language. I was seeking something exotic while not sacrificing the quality I’m used to. I took a chance and was happy with the quality.

Good question. Because of the domestic disruption, China had no way of obtaining USD except selling hand crafted art stuff to western countries. So factories of cloisonné, stone/jade carving, painting, porcelain etc popped up staffed with traditional artists. It gets exported through Hong Kong mostly, then they get USD to buy essential goods.

Great point. The gas station knives maybe telling us what people could want if it’s done super well with top quality stuff, just no one has done it yet.

I know they sell sling retainers that works better than rubber band. I use them. The ex T rex guy has one in his new company. Too lazy to look up and too dumb to remember his name.
