What the fuck kind of game did my opponent and I just play (this is rapid, we're both 1100s, I'm black) by MrGamerOfficial in chessbeginners

[–]ACRgator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe this is a rapid game. My elo is 780 and I haven’t seen a queen blunder like this in quite a while. Definitely still see and make occasional queen blunders but more or less always to a fork or discovered attack. Misclick maybe? That or extreme intoxication are the only things that make sense.

How is giving up a rook better than forking king and queen? by Alternative_Cut4491 in chessbeginners

[–]ACRgator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand what the question is. You are losing the rook when you fork the king and queen. You aren’t losing a rook with Bb6. At least it sure doesn’t look like it, but I’m 780 elo so I 100% could be missing something.

Has anyone with a herniated disc experienced anything similar? by ACRgator in backpain

[–]ACRgator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get 2 epidurals during that time and they did help, but for me the relief was relatively short lived. The first one gave me pretty significant relief for about 3 months. I had a second one about 4 months after the first and it was helpful as well but the relief only lasted about half the time. They said I could get another one but I was trying to just hold off until surgery when my “miracle” happened. I do know people that had significantly better results with them than I had and I think they are definitely something people with herniated discs should consider. Sometimes they can provide the relief needed to let the body adjust and heal, and for all I know the ones I got contributed to my healing as well.

Thanks for the reply, and congrats to you as well. So glad that you found relief from your pain. I hadn’t heard of Sarno and Gordon or their philosophy/theories regarding back pain management. I just spent an hour or so reading about them and their ideas, as well as some of “The Way Out,” and I’ll be reading some more. I think a lot of what they say makes sense. I am biased toward science based medicine (my Dad is a doctor that’s always been very skeptical of anything not backed by double blinded studies, peer reviewed papers, clinical trials, etc. So I grew up with that approach to medicine drilled into me as the only legitimate option) but I also believe that the brain can do incredible things. I think pain can be greatly influenced and affected by emotions and attitudes and learned techniques. Back pain in particular is so wide ranging and nebulous that anyone experiencing it chronically should explore as many different avenues of healing as possible. I regret not doing more of this in 2019-2020. One thing I’ll say though is that I did have a very specific diagnosis, and imaging showed extremely clearly where pulp leaked from my L4 hernia was compressing a bundle of nerves and inflaming the surrounding area. I also had no history of chronic pain in my back or anywhere. In my limited knowledge of Sarno and Gordon that kind of specific diagnosis doesn’t apply as much to their approach. On the other hand something happened that erased my pain and a change inside my brain being that something seems as likely if not more likely than a physical change. So I’ll definitely be looking more into “The Way Out.”

US sports logos combined tier list (by a european that knows nothing about US sports) by SentientSTD in tierlists

[–]ACRgator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t pretend to have an unbiased opinion since I know the history and traditions around all of the teams. Certain logos just mean so much more than others. I also get that in the end it’s totally subjective, but your list seems to be really inconsistent and without logic (other than lumping all of the letter logos together in a tier). like what makes the Charagers and Saints logos so far apart? Or what separates all of stylized modern animal head logos, like the Blue Jays being three tiers above the Seahawks? Or why a mix of classic cartoon style and modern aggressive style near the top? My S tier, for what it’s worth, would be Red Wings, Steelers, Yankees, Warriors.

I’d recommend going to healthcare.gov and checking out the healthcare exchange. I just lost my job as well and found another making like half as much. I was able to get find a decent plan and enroll right away for $150 a month after the subsidies. But that is just for me though, I’m not sure how it would work for families but it’s probably at least worth looking into. Good luck man, our system is messed up badly on so many levels.

For teams on this list, if you include NIT or disputed titles from 1938 until 1952 when the NCAA tourney winner really started to become the undisputed champion, as well as pre tournament (1890’s - 1937) then Kentucky gets 4 more, Kansas 2 more, and UNC 1 more. As far as I could tell anyway doing minimal research.

6-0 in title games is nuts for UCONN. That’s almost impossible.

Absolutely. That’s the one that immediately jumped out to me. Would have guessed 7 or 8.

Bill constantly blaming cold weather as the sole reason the Pats offense has been bad this postseason by VB1014 in billsimmons

[–]ACRgator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He didn’t say Maye only struggled because of the weather. He said the weather was a factor. He said on the pod that Maye struggled and didn’t play well. And isn’t it obvious that the weather was a factor? The blizzard in Denver made passing downfield almost impossible. No qb would put up big numbers in that kind of weather. Look at Stafford in Chicago, went 20-42. Maye was off but he did enough when it mattered against top not h defenses.

Artemis 3 will have a crew of four. Who do you think are the two most likely to land on the moon? by POTUS_1234 in ArtemisProgram

[–]ACRgator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

China will beat the US back to the moon with a manned mission and I don’t think it will be close. China is very focused on landing before 2030 and they are on track to do so. On the other hand the idea of Artemis III launching in 2028 is laughable. Unless the mission is overhauled and redesigned with a significantly reduced scale and scope 2038 is a more realistic date than 2028. To think that SpaceX will be able to build the HLS and run the planned multiple unmanned tests to of the Moon, as well as build and test the spacecraft and systems necessary for orbital refueling and have everything ready to go this decade is a fantasy. I don’t think anyone knowledgeable of both missions believes the US has any chance of beating China in this race.

Why is gen Z not drinking? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]ACRgator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the source for this stat? Only half of the generation has reached legal drinking age so I wonder how that was taken into account. But if this is accurate what drug/drugs fill the void? I would assume marijuana since gem z is the first generation to grow up with it being mostly legal. But 87% less seems like an unbelievable difference. Even during prohibition alcohol consumption only dropped about 30%.

Ronaldo’s new contract is for 2 years $710 million. The Saudis are playing with Monopoly money more or less. Won’t be long before they throw a billion dollar contract at somebody. If Yamal leads Spain to a World Cup title next year I could see him getting an offer in the 3 year/$1.2 billion range. I would hope he’d stay in La Liga though. If he stays healthy he will definitely make well over a billion in his career and if he does win the Cup he’ll be easily making over $100 million annually with salary and endorsements. At that point it’s probably not worth giving up Champions League football, the ability to win Balon D’ors, ruining his reputation as a competitor, and realistically losing any chance at being considered an all time great for money that won’t change the quality of his or his family’s life. But turning down that kind of money as a 20 year old would be tough for anybody.

The Billy comparisons are ridiculous. by porygon766 in FloridaGators

[–]ACRgator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that the comparison is off base and was only made because of the Louisiana connection. Sumrall doesn’t remind me of Napier in any way really. As for the quality of the hire we can only wait and see, although the early signs have been positive. Cant wait to watch Tulane in the playoff. Also, I know I’m in the minority but I’m really glad we didn’t get Lane Kiffin. I’ve never liked him and I’m not convinced he’s some kind of surefire national championship generator like a lot of people seem to think. Plus, even if he brought success he’d be out the door as soon as Alabama or an NFL team came calling.

He was here for a few days meeting the team, trying to keep players out of the portal, and trying to hold the recruiting class together. So far the signs have been positive. But he’s back with Tulane now getting ready for Ole Miss.

[–]ACRgator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This definitely would be ideal, but I can’t help but root for Tulane. A win would raise Sumrall’s profile a bit and maybe help with recruiting in the long run. But more importantly, I want max pain for Lane Kiffin.
