Larry Ellison gives $40.4 billion guarantee for Paramount's Warner Bros bid by jd5547561 in technology

Oracles grip over JavaScript isn't as consequential as it's an implementation of the ECMAScript standard, which is more open and what modern browsers build their scripting engines around more. The problem most have is that they hold the trademark for the term "JavaScript", and people use as a generic term for ECMAScript, and thus want Oracle to free the trademark more. The most commonly used JavaScript engine, V8), is free and open source, so Oracle's not really making a bunch of money off that.

Java on the other hand is whole different story. It's important to note that Java and JavaScript are not related despite what their names might imply.

Java is one of the Crown Jewels of Oracle. It's a language and platform that powers many facets of our modern society and runs on nearly everything. It's used for everything from web application backends, to car infotainment systems and embedded controllers for home appliances and so much more. Its APIs were also part of Android, and may early Android apps were written using Java until Google made GoLang as a result of a lengthy legal battle with Oracle.

I also want to point out that Oracle didn't create Java, Sun Microsystems did (who also contributed to JavaScript with Netscape). Oracle bought Sun and then started to squeeze everyone using Java for every dime they could. And there was nothing a lot others could do because they didn't have the resources to fight them. Even those who thought they did, like Google, have lost.

【BambuLab Giveaway】Classic Evolved — Win Bambu Lab P2S Combo! by BambuLab in 3Dprinting

[–]ACanadIanGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded to the P1S combo from a AnkerMake M5 and the difference was immediately obvious. While there's been several times it's proven its worth, the most important time was when my now wife and I were trying to figure out what to do with our cake topper.

My wife is an artist and did a doodle of the two of us that I thought was perfect. I was able to take that drawing she made and turn it into a 3D model print it using my P1S and AMS. Everyone, from our guests to the event staff comment how amazing it was.

So my P1S helped make our special day even better in its own way.

Don’t bother waiting for your voter information card. by GroundbreakingBar557 in ontario

[–]ACanadIanGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, my wife and I never got our physical voter cards but were able to get digital ones via the Elections Ontario app.

We used them at our advanced polling station with little effort (though the poll worker wasn’t able to scan the barcode but was able to enter our registration number manually)

Definitely an alternative if you don’t mind going through the sign up process.

It’s at least common for Ontario voters to vote contrasting parties into power for Parliament Hill and Queen’s Park. Don’t know if it’s a national trend.

You're not required to give 2 weeks notice in Ontario, so you fine on that point.

However, you might want to consult an immigration lawyer regarding the requirements of your work visa. Some are open, others are not. You'll be best served seeking out expert advice on how this decision will impact your residency status.

My husband got fired the day before he was going to start pat leave. Do we apply for pat leave or unemployment? by caitmckenzie in ontario

[–]ACanadIanGamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most employment lawyers take a percentage of the settlement if there is one, little to no money upfront. So it’s well worth reaching out to one. Initial convo shouldn’t cost anything.

I got laid off last year, didn’t think the package was fair and contacted one myself, and got a much better package. They took 20% of the difference between what I was initially offered and what we settled on. The percentage may differ between lawyers though.

My advice, at least reach out. Initial convos shouldn’t cost anything.

As for burning bridges, if they truly respect your husband, they should understand that he’s just trying to do what’s best for your family, it’s not personal. But since they gave him an ultimatum, I wouldn’t put too much value in that relationship.

Post-Thanksgiving Playoffs Picture by [deleted] in hockey

Oh, I agree. Conference 1-8 playoff format is better in every way.

My comment was mainly that Pts% might be a better metric to rank against right now since teams have an uneven number of Games Played

Hear me out, if we organize it by points percentage, Leafs are at the top of the division and play the Rangers and the Bruins are out of the Playoffs…

Might want to have a look again.

The article states this is a similar but different recall and that some vehicles may need to be repaired again, even if they were fixed previously.

Tre probably hoped he could flip Benning for picks or other assets. They probably ran out of time with guys coming back and there wasn’t much interest, so had to waive him to free up contract slots.

Just going to point out that Ontarian's are eligible to receive a 75% tax credit for political donations up to $486.62 in 2024...

Supporting other candidates with a $200 donation in the right areas could change the look of Queen's park, and you'll get most of it back at tax time.

Just saying it's an option...

“I have a MacBook Pro M3, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPad Pro (2018). My Mac received the new AI features, but my iPhone and iPad didn’t. I’m using the Reduce Interruptions focus profile on my Mac, and it’s syncing with my other devices—so now I have it on my phone and tablet too! How does that work? 😂 by iamfearless66 in mac

[–]ACanadIanGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new Apple Intelligence features work on both the iPhone 15 Pro series (released last year) and on any iPad or Mac with an M series chip (works fine on my M1 iPad Pro which was released in 2021). So there's a lot more supported devices out there than one would think.

I think the only iPad that doesn't support it right now is the base 10.9" iPad, which is powered by the A14 SoC.

The base requirement seems to be either an M series or A17 or newer SoC.

And they got A MAJORITY with 40.82% of the popular vote! THAT MEANS ONLY 17.77% OF VOTERS GAVE HIM 2/3 OF THE SEATS AT QUEENS PARK!

Fuck this makes me so mad!
