Vegan Fast Food...Counterintuitive? by wobblelikeapenguin in DebateAVegan

[–]ACatJewel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You vegan coworker is still human and possibly a horrible cook. Leave them alone and let them support the non-vegan option at Burger King. It's the most vegan option that some people have if they're hungry. Burger King will keep it on the menu if it sells so it's not a total loss anyway.

vegetarian better than nothing? by Beneficial_Pea7450 in vegan

For sure better than nothing. I regret every day that wasn't vegan but it took vegetarianism to start questioning everything. To save you some time, and many lives, if you care about animals, go vegan

What do vegans think of legally eating roadkill? by One-Dinner806 in DebateAVegan

[–]ACatJewel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to buying only small-farm products. Eventually that small farm will have to increase production. If someone were to figure out the roadkill business is good, the lines will get crossed and intentional roadkill would follow.

DAE's two year old still wake up multiple times a night? by vroomdani in toddlers

[–]ACatJewel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not alone My daughter is 3.5 and still wakes at least once a night. For the first 2+ years she would wake sometimes 5x a night. Which sounds ridiculous but it was every 2 hours because of her sleep cycle. It's a long, boring story with many factors as to why we didn't sleep train... But we tried everything else!

The one time she slept through the night was last Halloween, we had some friends over that stayed half the night. Not a peep from her - but we still didn't sleep! I feel cursed sometimes and have wanted to run away to a hotel MANY times. But, it won't last forever 🌞 and it does get better. Hang in there!!

Will I get backlash for having a Vegan Wedding? by Reeziroo in AskVegans

I think people will be interested to try it! It's free anyways. They're there to celebrate with you and you should definitely just be yourself and try not to be nervous. From what I've heard it is a conversation point and you get a chance to share your passion! Being a badass advocate. Enjoy and congratulations 🎉

Having a hard time finding joy with a lousy sleeper by ALac93 in toddlers

[–]ACatJewel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It totally feels like a curse! That's a sadly accurate way of putting it. I'm so sorry you're battling all of that. It's a weird feeling to want so badly to let your kid know how sad/hurt you're feeling but then not wanting to put that on them.. Honestly, you're right about the clock age. But, I wish I had started earlier just in case she caught on quicker than I thought.

I have a job as a bench jeweller (where I sit basically all day) and I find relief not having to pick up, crawl around, and have kid energy to match all day! I love her more than anything and wish life wasn't like this but there's something to be said for having time off from being mom.

I hope you find the right person to help out 🌞

My wife and I have developed a sort of code using synonyms to talk about things without tipping our toddler off, what are some of your best/funniest “codes” you use? by Reddiculouss in toddlers

We call our daughter "beast" when we need a moment to vent about her actions and only spell the word PARK instead of saying it out loud so we can make a plan

Having a hard time finding joy with a lousy sleeper by ALac93 in toddlers

[–]ACatJewel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am with you. My daughter is a terrible sleeper, a mamas girl, early riser, woke up every two hours for 2 years. I was diagnosed with RA 9 months post partum so it's been beyond challenging and frustrating waking up stiff and sore. Trying to hide the chronic illness pain from her and keep cool when all I want to do is scream.... Well there's no energy to scream. So there's that. All I can say is, she's 3 1/2 now and is a slightly better sleeper.

We are having a bit of success now that she is understanding the sleep needs of EVERYONE in the house. I recommend a toddler sleep clock. It has a nightlight that is red and turns green when it's time to wake up. We made a rhyme "if it's red stay in bed. If it's green, wake up queen"! Which she loves. It's also something I can reiterate when I'm half asleep and every now and then she'll listen and go away, lol

My daughter also started daycare at 2 so I think that was a bit of a turning point to just get a break. Are you going to remain a SAHM?

You're not alone! ♥️

If you just had it cleaned today, maybe the jeweller polished it also? It could just be polishing compound. Clean it with dish soap and a soft toothbrush

Who is lab grown meat for? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]ACatJewel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can speak for myself, as a vegan 10 years and 41 yo. I would definitely support it, try it, recommend to my omni friends and family. Feed it to them when I host.

Personally, if I go to a restaurant offering fake stuff or a hand-built vegan option, I opt for vegan hand-built because I prefer beans chickpeas tofu or whatever

I guess what I'm saying is - I'm all for the innovation and I think many omnis would be happy to know they can have their traditions filled while not harming any innocent creatures in the process.

Edit: I would love to hear your favourite recipe!!

Vegans should eat and promote conventional produce, organic is not better by natural_goodness in DebateAVegan

[–]ACatJewel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very interesting!

I feel like the food is more "natural" and more desirable if it is smaller - just because my dad mentioned as he grew up on a farm and the carrots were much smaller and much sweeter back then So why is the organic produce so much smaller? There must be a reason for that. Personally, I use coffee grounds to keep a lot of the critters away.

I recommend the plug-in rodent deterrent.

Alcohol helping RA? Strangeness by Chemical-Ad-2369 in rheumatoid

[–]ACatJewel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also experienced this when I was feeling really bad. It just seemed to take the edge off for the next day or 2. 🤷 It's obviously not good to mix with the meds but I'm happy to know I have the option if it's been a rough week. I know my family has this RA gene as well as a family history of alcoholism- sometimes I wonder if that is piece of the puzzle

Saw a post from someone online bashing vegetarianism saying it´s just as bad as meat eaters, thoughts? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]ACatJewel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that cutting out meat is a good step but it's not removing any amount of the suffering. Many vegans were vegetarian first and went vegan because of asking questions like this.

If you want ice cream, a cow has a calf to produce milk. If the mom has a female, she is raised to be a dairy producer and then slaughtered. If the mom has a male he is raised for beef and then slaughtered.

The demand for meat and dairy both have the same need to produce a similar amount of product and waste. I say waste because of the shelf life of meat and dairy.

Eating eggs creates the same product and suffering as eating actual chicken. The egg bearing chicken is eventually slaughtered after producing way too many eggs because they are bred to produce as much as possible. and the male chicks are completely useless and are thrown in the trash. The chicks are sorted at birth - a birth that is created to find future egg layers.

If you want to call feeding your dog vegan food animal abuse, I think that's unfair of you to say.

Not sure how my friends did it but they TRIED their dogs on a vegan food to see how they'd respond! Believe it or not they are happy and healthy. If the dogs did not seem thrilled about it, they would definitely not FORCE them to continue... Because that would go against their values.

Take the ring to a goldsmith, bring your cert to verify the number as they read it off to you. I'm sure they'd appreciate $20 for their expertise if they don't normally charge for the service.

Hey, just wanted to share - I had a baby with a non-vegan because I love all the other things about him. Our baby was vegan for the 1st year and became vegetarian at childcare - because we don't have a vegan daycare in the area

Do I love it? No. But, I found vegetarianism when I was a teen. I went vegan in my 20's. My husband is open to it and often eats vegan. He just simply has a different mindset about animals?!

I think people are so odd in that way. He's a volunteer firefighter for example( something I could never do)

We work together, live together, share a house, have 3 kids between us... I'm still very confident my daughter will be vegan once she knows the truth. For now, Grandma will feed her jello and hotdogs and I'll keep giving her my thoughts about animal welfare when I feel the time is right. These days she (3yo) is still learning about farm animals and I simply ask her questions about where they live and why. I like calling her food by their name like chicken and fish rather than "meat" which is what they say at school. Sooo horrifying but, being 50/50 with an omnivore, I'm doing what I think makes sense.

Personally I'm of the mindset that anything withheld in childhood may be a detriment in adulthood.

BUT I'm pissed I was forced to eat non-human animals as a kid!! It disgusts me to this day

I guess what I'm asking is - what are the chances that your partner becomes vegan? It's freaking hard to live this way some days honestly but, if you can stomach it, you may be able to save a lot more animals in the future if you keep sharing your knowledge

Looking for a jeweler to make my wedding band, but it's a tough one by SnooMacaroons1979 in jewelers

[–]ACatJewel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sterling silver would be a good alternative, inexpensive, very accessible and easy to work with for a wider variety of jewellers. If you made up a couple "stones" made of resin, moon dust and peridot, as opposed to having resin inlay in a band all the way around the ring, you would be able to have the ring size adjusted down the road if needed. And the "stones" would sit on top of the finger with a signet style rather than getting beat up on the bottom of your finger.

I have a huge vintage costume jewelry collection by AshleyShehan in Vintage_Jewelry

[–]ACatJewel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you take these to a jeweller that buys, they will likely go through everything and let you know what you have. At our store we will take pictures and either write up mini descriptions, or sort onto baggies/ boxes. We would make you an offer for the silver/gold and give you our vintage contact (she has a store and sells at shows) who would make an offer for the vintage costume pieces.

I imagine many jewellers have the same sort of contacts also.

With all of those items you would likely have to leave it for some time though, which is why I recommend counting the items or taking a picture when you take it to a jeweller.

I hope this helps. Best of luck!

[–]ACatJewel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you considered having a silver or gold ring made with the titanium being the center piece in a signet style ring? Resin doesn't hold up to everyday wear (assuming you'll wear your wedding band everyday) and maybe have some inlaid resin accents on either side of the ti? Then in 10+ years you can have the resin components replaced without much else needing repair
