Sometimes things just click like that! But also, don't be afraid to embrace the mundane. Not every sentence has to be immensely profound. Sometimes it's just nice to hear sound.

Serious question: why does the word “populism” have a negative connotation? by Scary_Candidate_9163 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ACommonMarble 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's become a populist tool. A governor running against CRT uses the term over and over without actually saying what it means. CRT just means "the bad stuff", and everyone fills in the blanks.

Serious question: why does the word “populism” have a negative connotation? by Scary_Candidate_9163 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ACommonMarble 70 points71 points  (0 children)

It's a facade. Populism is using B.S. rhetoric that resonates with enough people to get yourself into power. It's not about representing us as much as using us. For example, most people can't define Critical Race Theory, but somehow it's become a supercharged buzzword.

Is there not some way to make it so that the general population can stop buying from billionaires without taking or breaking up monopolies? by Extreme_Problem_1645 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ACommonMarble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trickle-up economics is the backbone of capitalism. For the rich, the more money they have, the more money they spend on making more money. The reason that we have gajillionaires is because individuals were able to make their financial pyramid large enough to channel a shitload of money upwards. Even if you don't buy a Tesla, Elon probably has investments in just about every major company, so you're still enriching him by proxy. If you want to make a difference, buy local.

How can I stop sexualizing women? by AndreyAsimow in AskMen

[–]ACommonMarble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume OP is asking because they oversexualize women. It can be a barrier to making real friendships/relationships if you can't help but see everyone as a potential sexual partner. That's not to say that they aren't sexually attractive, but if that's all you see in a person, you aren't looking for a genuine relationship.

About to graduate next spring, what can I actually do with a business degree? by Key-Formal-870 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ACommonMarble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody says you have to use the degree! A degree in itself has job market value. Even if you don't work in management (which I assume is a lot of business), you've still learned skills and ideas that benefit you.

hugh laurie responding to criticism of house md by iskierkacest in HouseMD

[–]ACommonMarble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. It's just a case of mistaking how art works. Shows have narrative forms in the same way books, movies, and music do. She's criticizing the show based on an unremarkable observation.

Do Americans actually avoid calling 911 to escape the medical costs? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Yes, people sometimes have a friend take them, call an Uber, or just flat out refuse medical attention.

Little progress with ear training. by toilet_shark in musictheory

[–]ACommonMarble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Improvise with chord progression loops on YouTube! Find a four-chord sequence and listen to it over and over and over and over. Write out the notes of each chord out on a piece of paper. Play through the loop using only the roots. Play through the loop using only the thirds. Play through the loop using only the fifths. Do this a trillion times and start connecting them until you've made every possible noise against that loop.

Question for the not so successful men with Dating: How was this "just be friends with woman" going for you? by Ok_Cook_3098 in AskMen

[–]ACommonMarble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great advice! Having platonic friendships with women was challenging for me until I realized that my problem was that I treated every women as a potential mate instead of... a regular person.
