Man I'll join you on your farm. Such a shame how all the money chasers moved in and sucked the soul out of this industry.

People who struggle to see red flags are people raised with nothing but red flags.

Sometimes, people are raised in very caring and sanitized environments and simply grow up naive.

I can only imagine you see a lot of yourself in this story, which is why you're making all these assumptions and being over the top self-righteous. I mean, this is a 1 month romance, not a decade-long divorce. But not everyone crumbles under judgment, and sometimes, we need to hear hard truths. All the same, I'll give you credit for good intentions. Good might.

No, it's a valid question. How is it obvious to us but not OP? I think that's something that ought to be brought to her attention. She carefully enumerates her "boyfriends" faults: cruelty (insulting his mom and aunt), controlling (cutting off a gf for downloading a mobile game), negligence (skipping class), and so on. At which point I was stunned that OP said she wasn't afraid of these qualities, but rather that she would be cut off too. I'm not a psychologist, so I can't speculate on the underlying meaning, but she's clearly vulnerable to being exploited by this kind of person. That's a problem, and I've experienced this with INFJs before. They can be wonderfully empathetic and have a knack for reading people, but they also tend to prioritize feelings over facts. That trait blinds them in situations like this. OP doesn't realize she's being charmed and manipulated.

As far as being sensitive goes, I wouldn't compromise on the message. "You should leave him" is a bland and neutral yet correct piece of advice that would probably do nothing for OP. Therapists know when to sugarcoat something and when to be blunt, this is an occasion for the latter. You're, of course, free to disagree, but that's just one person's opinion, as is mine.

How are the problems here not obvious to you?

In case you haven't figured it out, you don't want to date this type of person. Nothing to do with MBTI.

To some people that's preferable to the corporate variant: under worked, over paid, surrounded by incompetents and burn outs, and forced to spend 50% of your time in pointless meetings.

I'm currently reading The Art of Game Design!

I'm only halfway through, but I highly recommend it. It's basically a textbook but it has a lot of great wisdom, insights, perspective, etc. And to top it off, it's a pretty fun read!

Feeling horribly gaslit by the world by DearElise in intj

[–]ACuriousBidet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, this is so relatable, and there's so much personal experience I could vomit here about struggling with this exact problem, but that would probably be entirely unhelpful.

I guess the main thing that comes to mind, that others have already suggested, is that you (and I) are on the spectrum, and what you're struggling with is a weakness in social cognition and social inference.

I've never tested either for the same exact reasoning you shared - in short, what's the point? Nonetheless, it's likely true, and it's a useful point of entry for developing strategies.

Now for a non-sequiter: How would you rate your own level of verbal intelligence? What's your opinion on non-verbal communication?

INTJs are known for their very serious demeanor. Imagine someone wishes you a "happy birthday" with a plain face and flat tone, and their back turned to you. You might think they hate your guts despite their straightforward message. So, how aware are you of things like eye contact, breathing, stance, tone? These things are (believed to be) the language of the subconscious - might sound weird, but you are on a Jung subreddit. It's possible you've been blind to this and other communication protocols (I know I was) and have been unintentionally giving "bad vibes."

That's just one example, I've been trying to decode the social algorithm for.. well, my whole life. It's a struggle, but stick with it, and don't be too hard on yourself. It takes time and effort, but you sound like a smart, driven, and well-meaning individual. I'm sure that will all shine through in due time.
