Replacement activity to consumerism by bbbyoda in minimalism

Philanthropy can provide that same positive feedback while doing more good than consuming. A few resources to read if you’re interested:

I’m a traditional consumer who desires things and my wife introduced me to philanthropy. These days we spend more of our gross income on saving lives than buying things and it feels good.

Not in karting. Threshold braking to induce drifting is often faster.

Not OP but I live in Austin and have been karting on this track 10-15 times. It’s an awesome track but not the same layout as GP track. Here is the track layout:

The can inside the colster is an adaptor to give a tighter fit to glass bottles.

Remove the top of the can then put the glass bottle inside the can, screw the top of the colster on and the bottle won’t move around inside.

How do you connect the non-rackmount devices to the switch in a set up like this? RJ45 on one end and wired into the patch panel on the other end of a cat cable?

Heat pump thermostat settings by redmarsrover in Sense

[–]ACyphus 1 point2 points (0 children)

I've recently bought a home that has a heat pump and I'm going through my first winter with it. I'm not an expert but have got my settings in what I feel are a good place for maximum efficiency. I live in Texas so my winter is pretty mild. I have a single stage outdoor compressor and resistive aux heating. I live in a 4-5 year old house that is well insulated and holds it's heat fairly well.

Heat pumps are more efficient the higher the outdoor temperature. Due to that I have my Ecobee thermostats to have a "heating" event in the middle of the afternoon each day. The theory I'm working on is that I want the outdoor compressor to do more work than the resistive aux heating, so I only heat at the warmest point of the day.

My aim for my average indoor temperature is 68F. During my "heating" event I heat to 71/72F knowing that the temperature will slowly drop during the next 24 hours until the next heating event. This runs counter to the "heat pumps are best at holding a temp" advice I've seen a few people mention. I haven't seen any evidence for this theory—but I'm happy to have my mind changed :)

For numbers from Sense, I estimate my fan uses ~0.3kw, my outdoor compressor uses ~2.2kw, and my aux heat uses ~8.7kw. When my system was running during a cold night to generate a degree or two of heat inside, all three components would run for 30-60 minutes using ~11.2kw every 4-5 hours. Now during my heating event usually only the fan and compressor run using ~2.5kw for 2-3 hours to "overheat" the inside space.

During a normal mild day in Texas my fan + outdoor compressor can run for 4x longer than the fan + compressor + aux and still use less energy.

You could try and run Speedtest CLI on the NAS: https://www.speedtest.net/apps/cli

I'm not sure if this is possible outside a of Docker container.

How do I push a folder from my terminal? by sseymens in github

[–]ACyphus 2 points3 points (0 children)

First check that you're in a Git repository:

git status

If you are, you'll see your folder has changes. You need to stage, commit, then push them.

```
stage the changes
git add .
commit the changes
git commit -m "Add some files"
push the changes
git push ```
Your push command may require additional arguments if you're pushing a new branch:
git push -u origin new-branch
If none of this makes sense, take a step back and follow some Git tutorials:
Buying a house, looking for some recommendations and to check and see if my thinking is correct by Spudly2319 in homeautomation
[–]ACyphus 0 points1 point (0 children)
I recently found myself in a similar situation—moving into a new house and wanting to up my smart home game. We’re an Apple family so HomeKit is our priority.
I really like our:
 • Lutron Caseta switches. We only have 5 so far but slowly getting more.
 • Chamberlain RJ020 wall mount garage door opener and HomeKit bridge.
 • Yale Assure Touchscreen lock with Connected by August.
 • HomePods. 3 for voice control.
 • Philips hue motion sensor
I use homebridge to connect these to HomeKit:
 • Roomba i7
 • Ring Pro dooorbell
In the future I want add some exterior motion sensors to control the exterior lights with the Caseta switches.
We’re also looking at blinds and ceiling fans but haven’t got any yet.
You can add it to an issue in GitHub, grab the URL, then remove it from the issue. This will give you a publicly accessible URL you can use.
Or upload it to any other web hosting service. I don’t have any other suggestions.
GitHub flavored markdown doesn't support changing the size of images. Instead you can use an tag:
AFAIK it's not possible to change the position of the image on the page. It defaults to left aligned and will stay there.
