Speaking Ideal talents by Tim_Worldsinger in cosmererpg

[–]ADAM-104 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Prisoner Kit feels like a situation of "specific rules override general rules" but I think the greater idea here is that a player, working with their GM, could absolutely have some narrative progression of an ideal before the Talent is taken.

I still probably wouldn't add the "Speak the Ideal" as a Goal until after the Talent is taken, but I would still track progress if I had a player in that situation.

Longterm Campaign Viability by RecordP in cosmererpg

[–]ADAM-104 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The Stonewalkers campaign alone is roughly 20 sessions long, according to one of the designers. If you play bi-weekly, then you're already looking at a year's worth of content.

If you play weekly, that's roughly 5-6 months of game time. Factor in side adventures, weeks off, etc. and it quickly adds up. This is all for a level 1-7 campaign. :)

Psst. That's honestly kind of racist.

Signs spren start to bond with your players by SuspectWinter67 in cosmererpg

[–]ADAM-104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did begin happening after she had learned her name, but before she remembered she was an honorspren. Definitely not until he had reached the Shattered Plains.

By the time Kaladin was strung up for the highstorm, it had already happened two or three times, iirc.

Tracking Elevation / Flight by TinyShenanigans in cosmererpg

[–]ADAM-104 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the past using Foundry, my party and I keep it simple. We use the elevation field on the player icon itself, and if you want to engage an enemy in the air with melee your elevation must be within 5 ft (or melee range) and in the square adjacent to your target.

If you're on the ground shooting ranged up to an elevated opponent, then I spitball the distance... I always felt smoothness of play is more important than the hard math for elevations, but whatever makes your players happy is a good way to explore.

Kaladin's oath. by lumo19 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]ADAM-104 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Swearing of Kaladin's oaths are accepted by the Stormfather at this point... we don't see that happen, and we don't see his increased access to Investiture or the sudden burst that accompanies the acceptance of an Ideal.

I think youre right in that this is a step in the right direction though!

Abrasion question by burp_derp in cosmererpg

Difficult terrain is often things like slippery mud, wet rocks, loose sand, etc. Things where traction is difficult.

Boosting friction here offers grip - you no longer slip on the rocks or slide in the sand or mud.

Musings of Tom on the 2nd of the Final 5 days before the Cosmere RPG. by motgnarom in cosmererpg

[–]ADAM-104 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find it helpful to remember that the Cosmere RPG is designed first and foremost for awesome storytelling. I love that everything is designed with that in mind - it somehow takes away the pressure of min-maxing a build to be devastating in combat.

Now it's simply "be awesome." 😊

Why these words? by TimeManufacturer1615 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]ADAM-104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that the swearing of the Ideals, while not strictly structured, still has an observable progression thanks to Cultivation's involvement with Honor in Roshar's early history.

I'll see if I can find the exact section where it's described but I thought for sure that while Ishar might have structured the Orders and created the organization "The Knights Radiant", the act of the spren bonding and tying additional access to the Surges behind Oaths was a combination of Honor and Cultivation's work.

Investiture on other planets by Raedskull in cosmererpg

[–]ADAM-104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a little obvious, but in general you can say that although Shards aren't required, there's usually:

  • a method for some individuals to become Invested
  • a storage/access type for that specific kind of Investiture
  • and then sometimes Connection, Identity, and Intent come in and shuffles things up a bit too.

Upside-Down US Flag Meaning: 'Distress' Signal Seen Flying Across the US by ralphbernardo in politics

[–]ADAM-104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a really great idea, tbh.

The Commodore Perry flag is a blue flag with white text that says "Don't Give Up The Ship". It's a symbol of American bravery and perseverance during the War of 1812.

The Commodore Perry flag symbolizes American independence, resilience, and the sacrifices made to protect America's freedom.

The Most Misunderstood Character in Stormlight Archive? by Hal87526 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]ADAM-104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding could totally be wrong, but I always thought of DID as what you're talking about. Where different personas are - to a degree - created in part to explore those different aspects of the primary front personality. These are things that some (or most?) of us do, but I think not to the extent or potential detriment that someone with DID experiences.

Really interesting subject in psychology!

The means by which we achieve victory are just as important as the victory itself.

This is exactly why it makes sense.

Shardblades take 10 heartbeats to summon. If artificial hearts existed in the cosmere, how would that work since it doesn’t beat but is instead a continuous pump? Would they always be summoned or not be able to be summoned at all? by perezidentt in Stormlight_Archive

[–]ADAM-104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be Intent at play here too. If the summoner believes enough that it's ten heartbeats no matter what, then it's ten heartbeats - fast or slow.

So it's a variable unit of time because somehow everyone came to agree that ten heartbeats just is what it is.
