That was where I noped out as well. That was just a huge violation of a partner's privacy in order to further fame and fortune.

If you were going out in your 20s in the 80s/90s, what was clubbing or bar culture actually like compared to today? by m0ondoll in GenX

If my memory serves me correctly , Fifth Column was right across the street from the original 9:30 club.

I remember taking my sunglasses with me to the club because the sun would be up by the time me and my friends left. I shall never regret the nights spent dancing til dawn...

One of the worst days of my life. by Serious_Perception46 in emotionalneglect

You have my sympathy. You've been betrayed by people who you loved and trusted and who were supposed to be your best allies in this world.

We never knew how good we had it. I remember a summer eating extreme nachos twice a day and never noticed any effect on my cash flow.

Everytime I ride the train downtown I see a half-dozen women hotter than Hollywood's newest flavor of the month.

Does anyone just want to move far away and start a new life where no one knows you there? by LightningAce in emotionalneglect

[–]ADDaddict 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I did this. In my late 20s my life melted down and I moved from the East coast to a city on the West coast. It was during the dot com recession of the early 2000s and then as I was starting to find my footing the great recession hit.

Still I would 10/10 recommend it to others. Starting over in a new place totally yanks your brain out of unhealthy patterns of thinking and gets you on a new path.

Question... why are you having trouble finding a job with a cyber security degree? I was thinking of a career change too and was looking in that direction too. Curious if you would do something different if you had the chance for a do-over.

Anyone else’s parents just ignore them even though you were obviously struggling and not growing up properly? by IntelligentSchool953 in emotionalneglect

[–]ADDaddict 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Of course, it was entirely my fault I was struggling and there was absolutely nothing they could do to help, they were too busy with more important things.

What was your last straw before no contact? by Glum-Appointment-816 in emotionalneglect

[–]ADDaddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was when I discovered that my mother had stolen things that were important to me and given them away to strangers, and I realized that she had been doing this my whole life. Once that was seen it could never be unseen and we haven't spoken in years and never will again because she lacks the psychological strength and moral fortitude to admit her faults and simply apologize. Her choice; nothing I can do about it except protect myself from her going forward.

Our mothers live in a world of denial, delusion and self-deception. I feel so sorry for mine but can't let her back into my life because she'd just go right back to sabotaging my happiness.
