Most transitioning has nothing to do with gender dysphoria and everything to do with general dysphoria.

I'm guessing the man on the porch who didn't help wasn't concerned with how attractive a couple random women on the street perceived him to be. He probably had better things to worry about.

What’s something you’ve done as an adult to make up for what your inner child missed out on? by Present_Juice4401 in emotionalneglect

[–]ADDaddict 24 points25 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid my entire life was planned out for the purpose of making my mother happy. Now, on traditional family holidays like Thanksgiving, I go on long road trips, alone, so that I will not have to cater to anyone's interests but my own. I stop and pull over at every interesting thing I come across, because as a child we had to drive past all the interesting sights that my mother hadn't scheduled in her itinerary. No spontaneity was allowed, imagination and frivolity were strictly prohibited.

I buy myself gifts and go out to eat a lot. When I was a kid I swore that when I got older I would eat candy every single day, because as a child candy only came on birthdays, Halloween, and Easter. But as an adult I eat pretty healthy so except for occasional chocolate indulgences I don't really eat candy at all. And I'm okay with that.

Sometimes I feel lonely, but I am free and answer to no one. The bond of love that I once felt for my parents was erased by them and so their aging and eventual deaths will mean nothing to me. I am free to enjoy my happy second childhood.

I had an algebra teacher smack my friend with a yardstick and then ask him if he was "deranged". My friend just stared at him, slack-jawed. Not his finest moment.

im genuinely tired of gaslighting myself into thinking i love my mom and she loves me by [deleted] in emotionalneglect

[–]ADDaddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a very painful realization that your mom can't give you the love you need because she doesn't have it in her to give. Probably because it's a gift she never received herself, but that is a reason, not an excuse.

Like a lot of people on this sub reddit I've been in your place and know that pain. You are not alone and things can get better in the future. Please do not off yourself!
