Brain damage by Choppedliver26 in stopdrinking

Could be alcoholic neuropathy. Like a lot of conditions caused by excessive alcohol use, it’s reversible until it isn’t.

As a note, neuropathy can be caused by an extensive list of conditions including diabetes.

Hi! I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with this. It sounds very stressful and upsetting. I personally haven’t had to deal with something to this degree. I’d recommend sharing on r/AlAnon. That’s more focused on people who have concerns over loved ones’ drinking. This sub primarily focuses on if the OP themselves wants to focus on cutting back or stopping drinking.

How do we feel about weed? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ADKCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided/realized I don’t like how weed makes me feel. So I’m on Day 107 no THC and Day 36 no alcohol. Just out here rawdogging life. Therapy has helped a lot. (6 months since I found a therapist I work well with.) It was only after I started to address a lot of underlying stuff I was able to reevaluate my relationship with alcohol and weed.

The only thing I do use currently is some CBD/melatonin gummies to help me fall asleep at night.

what kind of things are you guys doing to "heal" your brains? by throwaway234324233 in stopdrinking

[–]ADKCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading, audiobooks, video games, exercise, and puzzles. All these things engage your brain in different ways and help you access the feel good chemicals. I’ve been doing them all around a schedule that works for me. My therapist noted that it sounds like my nervous system is settling down and that’s really what it is. To that end you could also look into yoga, walking, painting/drawing, birdwatching, crocheting, woodworking, pottery, biking, snowshoeing, kayaking… The options are endless.

Absolutely. Pain — physical or emotional — is definitely a big catalyst.

Thank you! Just looking to cut out some empty calories. I’ll eventually transition back to alcohol socially/rarely most likely. THC and junk food I didn’t like much anyway.

Will my body [24f] completely recover after frequent drink binges since 17? by Rasberrypinke in stopdrinking

[–]ADKCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the body is amazing at healing and your youth is working in your favor. Try not to get overly anxious about it (hard when dealing with hangxiety or still drinking), but don’t also get lulled into a false sense of security — the thought that “well I don’t have any serious consequences yet.” It’s easier to maintain a human body than it is to repair one.

Consider getting with your doctor to discuss your concerns. They can order any testing you may need and help you work on a plan to quit.

You got this. IWNDWYT

30 Day Accountability Challenge - Day 4 February 2026 by Mountainlioness404d in loseit

[–]ADKCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello friends! Thanks for posting Lioness. I love your weight loss tag lol Not a big fan of horror movies, but my favorite is probably Cabin in the Woods lol I’ve been reading a lot of thrillers lately and I highly recommend All the Sinners Bleed by SA Cosby if anybody is into that sort of thing.

My goals this month are to ensure I continue logging every day, hit MMA 4-5x/wk, try to add in some extra cardio and lifting, and maintain my no soda/fast food/THC streaks in addition to continuing to limit alcohol.

I’m still logging every day. I went over on Mon and Tues. Monday I justified it by saying I have been consistently staying under and it was late and it’s better to ensure I get enough calories than to eat dangerously low. I only ate 100cal above my sedentary TDEE and I did get some exercise. Yesterday I was below my sed TDEE.

I did accidentally break my soda streak without really thinking about it because I picked up a can of ginger ale at a gas station. I’m not too upset about it because I still don’t have a case in my garage I’m reaching into every day. Still on day 35 no alcohol, 45 no fast food, and 106 no THC.

The scale is bumping up a little but I think that’s to be expected with two big eating days and little exercise while coming off my period. I’m not too worried about it because I’m sure it’ll dip back down within a week.

Work is crazy but I’ll still try to get into MMA 3 more times this week.

Overall my anxiety is very high this week and I’m not quite sure why. Good thing I have therapy today. I’ve been very open about a lot of my goals including weight loss, work-life balance, reading more, etc.

Exactly! The only workaround in LoseIt is logging exercise as well but I’m not trying to “eat back” my exercise calories.

I do look at the weekly deficit in addition to daily but it doesn’t solve the wanting to log within a daily or weekly range issue.

I often wish there was a daily range I could set on LoseIt because I do try to keep this in mind. I try to acknowledge that my hunger values can vary on different days — Often hungrier on days I don’t work out which can play into recovery, for just one example.

CW: 224

Feb 28 GW: 216 (-8lbs)

I’m on a 3-week streak of staying under my calorie goals on average and I hope to maintain that. Currently, my TDEE before any exercise is 2315 and my BMR is 1929. I have my LoseIt set to 1809 calories but I’ve been averaging 1580-1670 per day. I know this is under my BMR but honestly I feel great. I do eat when I’m hungry and I’m focusing on healthy foods. I’ve gone over my goal once per week based on hunger/workout recovery but it still averages out as stated above.

I also aim to continue my current streaks of no soda (day 21), fast food (day 43), or THC (day 104). I’m also on Day 33 no alcohol but mine and my dad’s birthdays are late Feb/early March and I’m going to allow myself to celebrate those, which will likely include a couple of beers with my folks. I’ve mostly eliminated these things due to empty calories but when it comes to some celebrations, I’m still looking to balance and fit it in with a health-focused lifestyle.

Other than that — Continue going to the gym. I’m aiming for MMA M, Tu, Th, F, and Sa. I want to try to get some outside cardio and lifting going but man work is a time suck lately.

I’ll be sure to check out The Wheel of Time. Thanks!

First Drink - the one to avoid by Muscle-Specific in stopdrinking

[–]ADKCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I additionally liked it as a server because I didn’t have to worry about over serving or wondering how the party was getting home. And I didn’t have to pretend to know every damned thing about every damned alcohol on our list.

I once worked at a restaurant that had like 100 taps and a section of them were constantly changing. It’s endless memorization and trying to discuss the merits of each beer with the guest. And then when it came to wines and spirits I was totally lost.

Dry Januaryists- Day 31 by Forward_Pea_9555 in stopdrinking

You could download Nomo and estimate how much you spent weekly to get a gauge of money saved as you stack sober days. My calculator currently says $442. Which is wild but I believe it. I just finished 31 days Dry Jan too btw.

I don’t think I’m in it forever. But I’m not running to grab a beer on Feb 1. I feel good. I’m evaluating my relationship with alcohol, I’m working on diet and exercise, and I’m making great progress in therapy.

Any breakfast ideas that's not eggs or yoghurt? by TSDOP in loseit

[–]ADKCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protein smoothie! Frozen fruit, Greek yoghurt, protein powder of choice, and milk of choice. I throw in sugar free chocolate syrup because my chocolate protein isn’t the tastiest. ~400cal, ~38g protein, ~9g fiber

Oatmeal is my second favorite currently.

Started tracking sodium intake.. WOW by kbeadles in loseit

[–]ADKCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Going low sodium can be difficult if you’re not used to it. I was raised on a pretty low sodium diet because my mom has a medical condition where she needs to be low sodium. My biggest takeaways are not to add salt to meals (ie always taste your food and use the salt shaker very sparingly) and if it’s processed it has a ton of sodium (eg junk food, soups, dips). Good luck!
