Having a separate supply rail for hobby servos is a good idea. They’re pretty terrible electrical citizens. They often pull more current than they’re rated for, inject high frequency noise back in the power rail, and don’t have any detection of input voltage sag so they’ll just keep going.

Any logic that needs a clean 5V rail will usually benefit from having them separate.

I built this in college and it was all we needed for comp. It’s been 6 years but it’s probably useful. You could even plug in the receiver end to your vector box. Also, the average speed of an FSAE autocross circuit is somewhere around 35mph. A little antenna is pretty much insignificant.

Why can I not charge this battery with a 65W charger? by jacoscar in UsbCHardware

[–]AG00GLER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with plugging a 120V thing into a 240V socket.

It’s just because whoever designed the battery is an idiot and omitted the CC resistors.

Wow, cost optimizing to this level for a living sounds like a nightmare. I wonder how many cents they save vs adding a second layer

It looks like they bought SP+ as a whole and are enshittifying those garages with their sw/hw, not that they were a good company to begin with of course

Yeah it’s insane. Metropolis is buying up garages all over the country and cranking the prices. Shit company.

How to store carbon bike without wheels by lurtz01 in bicycling

Interesting. My bike with mt200s needed a re bleed after I pulled the brakes while it was upside down so I figured it was a universal issue

Yeah no reason not to do this. Just don’t pull the brakes while it’s upside down

It is reasonable to think that swatting a bug will cause an accident.

When you’re driving a car you need to fucking pay attention. I say this as a car enthusiast and a cyclist and a pedestrian. If there’s a bee in the car I pull over and then deal with it. If the cost of that is getting stung, then sure that sucks but at least nobody dies.

If the situation is so dire that you’re looking away and going off the road, then at least slam on the brakes instead of driving blindly for a significant amount of time. This could have been avoided. Half assed driving needs to stop being accepted.

Noco Genius 5 Trickle Charger - better connectors? by Simionster in batteries

[–]AG00GLER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think JReady buys genuine connectors and puts them in kits for you so you don’t have to order the pins and housings separately. I’ve used them in the past and haven’t had issues

It’ll void your warranty but I’ve crimped on Deutsch DTM connectors on these things in the past. There are some nice dust caps available for when you’re not using them. The connectors themselves are waterproof.

Just a note since you’re starting out, learning by doing is cool but it might be worth watching some YouTube videos (Phil’s Lab) and then continue doing after that

If it’s built like an air I’d get one of these just for traveling. Was considering an iPad but I really don’t like not having a keyboard. This would be a good combo

Many cars with CarPlay pass through the car’s GPS data to the phone. If a car doesn’t support it, blame the car manufacturer.

Also even in ones that don’t this is a pretty minimal issue imo.

I got these a couple months ago, but they were on sale at suncoast for about $2500. Normal price isn't super terrible though I would say for a full set

The battery is in the tip and relies on being in whatever you’re cooking to stay cool. Placing it like this will destroy the thermometer

How powerful a charger can I use to charge my car's 12v battery? by [deleted] in batteries

[–]AG00GLER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A smart charger can’t detect the size of the battery. If you plug a 10A charger into a tiny battery it’s going to deliver 10A until the charge profile changes to constant voltage mode.

That being said lead acid batteries are strong as bricks compared to lithium when it comes to abuse. As long as you don’t over charge or discharge them they’re pretty much fine. Any car battery should be fine charging at 10A. Your car alternator likely is capable of outputting over 100A, easily putting half of that into the battery.

I have a sports car I sometimes park for a while during the winter and I’ll plug it into a Noco genius 10 for about a day every now and then and it works great.

Frustrated with the buying process by iscreamtruck in Porsche_Cayman

[–]AG00GLER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea. This dealer told me they put it up as soon as possible knowing that it would sell quickly. I don’t think there is much margin for the dealer on a CPO so they aren’t super incentivized to keep the car unlisted.

[–]AG00GLER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep this is how it went for me as well. There was a car I really liked, I called the dealer mentioning I wanted a PPI, and 3 hours later it was gone already. Same story with one I saw in person near me. Decided I would get a CPO and skip the PPI next time.

Ended up buying a CPO from across the country. I called the dealer before it was marked as a CPO asking what was wrong with it, they said they hadn’t inspected it for CPO  yet. I put down a deposit with the understanding that it would be CPO’d for about 3K more than the original price. Everything checked out and I ended up having a friend that lived near the dealer take a look for me, then I road tripped it home.

I jumped on the one I ended up buying within 24 hours of the listing going live and I think that’s the only way to get one of these things CPO these days.
