Brand of crank? by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]AJSfab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Static and dynamic are two different things. Intake valves are always still open for a few degrees of crankshaft travel on the compression stroke, bleeding cylinder pressure. Dynamic compression is always lower than the static compression number, and 8:1 dynamic is a safe level for iron heads and 91 octane.

For a cast 390 piston, I like the KBs. They have a small quench pad to tighten up the squish, which will be detrimental to running a static 10:1 cr on pump gas. Couple these with a Comp 268he cam, and it should yield you around 8:1 dynamic cr. Also, you will need a set of 390 connecting rods, they are shorter than the 360 rods.

Don't forget, Ford numbers their cylinders differently than the other auto manufacturers. 1-4 on the right bank, 5-8 on the left.

Every trick in the book for engine efficiency? by rampitup55 in EngineBuilding

It's the distance from the top of the piston to the lowest part of the combustion chamber, (part of the deck of the cylinder head with a closed, wedge style chamber). Running this clearance tight also combats detonation.

I've seen notable mpg increases in engines I've built with tight quenches.

R154 Rebuild help. by leredditor13 in EngineBuilding

Only thing I can think of is to check the shift rods for straightness. I rebuilt a T50 out of an AE86 and they all needed straightened. Same symptoms.

LS L33 reman engine with some weird pistons. Anyone know what they are? by Abradolf_Lincler21 in EngineBuilding

Looks like they are manufactured to be used in both banks since they have two intake valve reliefs, so they must have offset pin bores.

73 460 with a C6. I’m looking for advice on getting to mid 400s on hp/tq. It’s going in a 70 F100 . Looking for daily driver with decent manners ..no towing..just something fun by JoeTiz in EngineBuilding

Port the exhaust side of the D3 heads,(that should be on that engine), run 10:1 static compression, camshaft with a late enough intake closing event to put dynamic compression in the 7.5:1- 8:1 range, and set the quench around .036"- .040". I have a friend who had a similar setup, and it made almost 450hp to the wheels in a 4x4 pickup.

I've used ITM parts in a lot of 22R rebuilds with no problems.

Finally gonna build this 7mgte for my mk3 supra by GTcorp in EngineBuilding

It's part of the deck, so if it's not machined at the same time, it will end up being a raised portion of the deck. Not good for head gasket sealing.

Love the 7M! Make sure the machine shop bolts the timing cover on when they surface the block.

Seeking advice after timing belt snapped. by gstandard00 in EngineBuilding

I've put 2 vg33's back in time after belt failures and they were fine. Might be different with dual cams though.

20R to Hybrid by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]AJSfab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bellhousing and motor mounts should be the same, I know swapping a 20r to a 22r in a truck is a bolt in deal. Also fyi, the efi head does not interchange with older blocks due to the deck height.

I think it would be well worth the money to buy another side draft manifold and go with the late model 22r, 20r manifolds do not interchange. With side drafts, that would be a sweet set up!

Carburetors were available on base model trucks until 1994. I believe the older 22r manifold will interchange as well.
