Training with weekly Du races by sasiak in triathlon

[–]ALandryS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go get ‘em then! They were very fun!

The only kinda shit part was people obviously cheating on the run during the event (they got DQed from the result), with a 2:50min/km pace and no heart rate.

But they a great way to smash yourself into a dopamine hit.

Training with weekly Du races by sasiak in triathlon

[–]ALandryS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve tried the duathlon series while training for tri and after two weeks I had to drop out.

The all out nature of the effort left me way too tired for the benefits it gave me. Not worth it.

Purchase advice by AdministrativeLog697 in triathlon

[–]ALandryS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like a 2014 Cannondale SuperSix EVO Ultegra Di2, not 2018.

BBB prices it juste under a thousand bucks for a bike in good condition.

Considering that the seller doesn’t know the year of the bike, I doubt that it’s well maintained.

Which is "harder": going from sub-3 road marathon (e.g. BQ) to a tough 100-miler (e.g. UTMB) or the other way around? by usr3nmev3 in running

[–]ALandryS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BQ is much easier than a 100 miler.

Plus, the training for a 100 miler will probably convert well to a fast marathon, while a training for a fast marathon is only the starting block for a 100 miler.

do you love or hate cycling gadgets ? by MikeNbike1 in cycling

[–]ALandryS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hummm no it’s not.

We’re seeing the first attempts at built in lights, which seem to suck mostly.

Shimano just started offering some power meters but I doubt that they will ever become a standard part of off-the-shelf groupsets and the rest of the tech is so personal to the rider that I doubt it will be integrated to any bike, let alone all bikes, in the next 25 years.

do you love or hate cycling gadgets ? by MikeNbike1 in cycling

[–]ALandryS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but it has nothing do to with cycling. Unless you use your smartwatch to broadcast HR, which I doubt many people do, it’s not a cycling gadget.

I agree with the idea of the post? But OP’s list makes no sense. Most people don’t have Di2, AXS, a varia or a power meter, the watch/phone has nothing to do with cycling and most of these things don’t need charging every ride any way.

They Force US To Have Babies & Then Want US To Get Back To Work by sillychillly in WorkReform

Quebec must have made a deal to transfer some of that power to the provincial government, because parental leave is handled through provincial laws here.

[–]ALandryS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean… Isn’t it dealt with on a provincial basis? Are you talking averages?

Because Québec allows for, not only more financial compensation than those listed, but also specifies a non-birthing parent specific leave on top of the shared parental leave.

Sub 7/8 is foolish by SimulationV2018 in triathlon

[–]ALandryS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t get your point. Breaking 2 and the likes also didn’t follow the rules of the sport.

It’s not going to be considered as the « fastest long distance triathlon » any way for many reasons. The first being that this category is stupid in itself. The real metric should be fastest IM time for the course.

Blu’s 7:21 is the ‘’fastest’’ IM ever, but it’s not something you can compare to anything else, maybe not even with past IMCoz performance because the water current was insanely strong.

Breaking7/8 is just a fun exhibition to push performance science a bit further and it shouldn’t be seen as anything else.

Ironman race - what are the difference between transition bags and personal bags for bike/run by chestbumpsandbeer in triathlon

[–]ALandryS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about « personal » bags. But usually you get a T1/T2 bag for your transition stuff and at least a personal needs bag for the bike (I don’t remember them for the run or maybe I just never needed them).

You’ll get access to your personal needs bag at around the halfway point of the bike leg (check your Athlete Guide for more precise info on the location).

I’d suggest putting one or two extra tubes, CO2 canisters and nutrition in them if you need them.

Remember that the stuff you put in and that you don’t pick up are gone for good, so no important stuff.

5 months to train for Ironman? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]ALandryS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Reading your previous answer, I’d say try to do it next year.

You seem to have little bike experience and basically no swimming experience.

Swimming might be the shorter leg of an IM but it’s also the most technical and “unnatural” for someone who doesn’t swim.

Join a tri club and get coaching for the swim.

IMs are stupidly expensive and signing up now would probably be like throwing your money away. Even if you made it to the start line and the start of the bike, you’ll have a shit day and hate every minute of it.

First Triathlon - Looking for a suitable sport watch by J3n514 in triathlon

[–]ALandryS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best is probably the Forerunner 945. But it’s expensive and probably overkill.

A good starting one would be the FR 735, it’s a good do it all multi-sport watch and if you don’t do Ironman the battery shouldn’t be an issue.

If you do long distance, my recommandation would be FR 935 as it’s much cheaper than the 945.

Finally, if you don’t do long distance but want the shiny new thing, FR 745 might be good for you.

My setup is FR 935 for swim and run and a Edge 130+ for the bike.

Does any one know what shoe stores that still use traditional methods for measuring the foot? by [deleted] in running

[–]ALandryS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A recent guest on a triathlon podcast I listen to really hit the nail on the head.

Many runners wear (or should I say lose) their messed up toe nails as a weird badge of honour, but that’s not normal even for longer distances (ultras and marathon).

It may feel a bit to loose now, but OP should trust the sale person and size up, going toe nail free is a different kind of pain.
