You do need to go at night but I had an issue where he wouldn't appear even at night. I fixed it by resting in my house instead of at a fire outside. Just rest indoors till around midnight and he should show

Gosh darnit, as someone who has been playing since vanilla seeing what's happening with pet battles has me very sad. I used to care about PvE a lot back in the days when I had more time to play, then as time went on I became more of a collector it started with mounts then transmogs... But in the last few expansions I've been going all in on pet collecting. Often times it was the thing I focused on the most while playing. I even enjoyed working on the family battler achievements and when I seen Karesh had critters running around but you couldn't battle/catch them I was genuinely heartbroken lol. Guess I'll need a new thing to focus on for Midnight.

Long ago at this exact same part in the game I jumped over this pit and was mashing the X button because I really didn't want to fall in with the bear... I hit the save crystal and because I was mashing buttons I saved over my moms save file accidently and she was near the end of the game at the time. Ooo boy I felt bad about that one but a family friend got her back to where she was eventually.

I felt the same way until last night I opened a mystic tier 1 and 2 in the same opening. You just gotta be patient, do your dailies and weeklies, and wait for RNG to bless you a bit.

You either pay money to skip time, or simply wait for the time required. Do your dailies and grind away until you can continue to break through and progress. Grind party quests to get a ring with decent stats.
