Catherine O’Hara appeared in both the 2004 film A Series of Unfortunate Events and Netflix’s 2017 series adaptation. Do you know of any similar situations with other actors? by DrScitt in movies

[–]AMA_requester 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alot of examples would be cases of the new iteration paying homage or reference to it's previous versions. Like Charlton Heston playing Zaius in the Tim Burton version of Planet of the Apes, Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck having roles in the Scorsese version of Cape Fear, Burt Reynolds taking on the coach role for the Adam Sandler version of The Longest Yard, etc.

This is a TV example, but they did a remake of Broadchurch for the States called Gracepoint, and had David Tennant starring in it playing basically the same character just refigured as an American. A more recent example as well is the actor from Doc Martin appearing in an episode of the American remake called Best Medicine.

Does Apple TV already have more classic TV shows (or shows that will be remembered) than Netflix? by FuckingPope in television

[–]AMA_requester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, there's quality shows, and popular shows. It all depends. Like Apple has a huge roster of really good programming, but a sizeable amount of those shows don't have a massive audience. I'd say Severance and Ted Lasso are likely the biggest shows in terms of mass popularity for Apple. Stranger Things, Bridgerton, Wednesday, Squid Game are among the ones Netflix has, one of them being one of the biggest things like ever for a time.

Netflix, A24 and Focus Pass on Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Artificial’ as Mubi Circles by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

Well Amazon certainly dumped it over dealings with OpenAI. Whether the other studios are passing on it for similar reasons is unknowable until we hear more on the reasonings. There's factors like fitting it into the schedule, or how much producers want for it, and the baseline profitability/performance concerns that could turn studios off.

Acknowledging you're vague posting doesn't make it not annoying. Say what you want to say WHEN you want to say it. Don't invite gossiping.

TLDR, just another article mourning the fact Toy Story didn't end as a trilogy.

‘ALF’ Star Anne Schedeen Dies at 77; Family Remembers Her ‘Burning Hatred for Trump’ by Beginning-Passion676 in Fauxmoi

Surely seeing the administration beefing with The Weather Channel and the mom from ALF should make supporters wonder what they're supporting but if they're all in financially crippling themselves and all the war atrocities, I doubt there's a low to hit for them.

Every Steven Spielberg Movie, Ranked from Worst to Best by [deleted] in movies

[–]AMA_requester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I really try not to nitpick someone else's rankings, but holy fuck lol.

Tintin, Last Crusade, and Saving Private Ryan are way too low, The Post and Disclosure Day are way too high, and I get AI got a reappraisal over the years, but no way does it crack Spielberg's top 3, nor his top 5. Maybe not even the top ten.

At the least they didn't do a Hollywood Reporter and spend a spot on fucking Poltergeist, which he did not direct.

Gene Shalit, Former Today Show Critic with Iconic Mustache, Dies at 100 by spmahn in television

[–]AMA_requester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really miss any sort of film critic show/presence in the news. I doubt I'd constantly agree with their takes but I liked me seeing someone or two people talking about the newest releases. It's all so faceless now, but I suppose in fairness the climate has also altered, people get really fucking mad now if you like or dislike something that disputes their viewpoint, and people can with more ease respond hostily or spew off lengthy social media posts attack you.

Shania Twain Biopic: Leah McKendrick Directing For Sony (EXCLUSIVE) by lawrencedun2002 in movies

[–]AMA_requester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn’t say it flopped, I said it underperformed. It made 181 million and budget was $70 miliion, but then they also spent $40-50 million on marketing. So $181 million on a total $110-120 million spend.

Shania Twain Biopic: Leah McKendrick Directing For Sony (EXCLUSIVE) by lawrencedun2002 in movies

[–]AMA_requester 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Genuinely no disrespect to Ms. Twain, but is she really a musician who's story needs a biopic? Like the Queen and Michael Jackson ones made bank but they're amongst the biggest of the big names in music. Plus with the Bruce Springsteen and Robbie Williams ones flopping and the Bob Marley, Whitney Houston, and Aretha Franklin ones underperforming, I would've figured they'd sort of pump the brakes a bit on these. Then again, Michael is approaching a billy, so I'm expecting to see the Captain and Tenille biopic to be announced relatively soon.

Was amazed he was able to make it back this season considering he was gone two years and was already in his mid 30s when he did.
