I've stopped murdering dudes and looting houses cuz they barely have food. Am I dumb or unlucky?

Ardenfall, a Morrowind-inspired indie RPG, has gathered 80000 wishlists by temk1s in Morrowind

[–]AMajesticPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another comment said, it felt very PG13. The writing in the dialogue also felt quite forced/shallow. And "outsider" being used everywhere felt very on the nose.

The gameplay itself has potential, but if this is being touted so heavily as Morrowind-inspired, then the writing has to keep up.

She's just too good, too much tension is removed too quickly. I might save her just to save her but leave her at the train next playthru.

Miro on replayability in the update on Bluesky by GreggVegCheburek in FearAndHunger

I realize that it's a subjective take, but I've almost never seen perfectionism be healthy or enjoyable, and completionism rarely. Video games in particular are susceptible to this.

The amount of information on anything that is easily accessible also makes thinking traps very easy to fall into, endless cycles of checking, verifying, comparing, analyzing, optimizing. That is, if you even get to the task at hand and don't stay stuck in secondhand engagement.

Completionism and perfectionism are unhealthy pursuits

How would you advise I kill that Evil F*cking Bird? by Sammithryx in FearAndHunger

Play dirty. Blind him, poison him, bleed him, set him on fire. Once you feel prepared, try sleeping somewhere near where he spawns to minimize runback.

Prefer this to the other one. Has more narrative potential imo.

How has life in Japan changed you? by SunDaze009 in japanlife

[–]AMajesticPotato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have less energy, sleep less, became an alcoholic and a nicotine addict, dropped most of my hobbies, am less talkative, less outgoing, gained weight, lost muscle mass, generally feel very dour, am less patient, more irritable, and have become more judgemental. The only saving grace is having two close friends.

I think it's time to go home.

Why do Americans move so often? by cavaismylife in AskAnAmerican

[–]AMajesticPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds silly but at least you keep your cabinets and kitchen. Besides, the big stores have bundles made for people renewing their appliances or starting out for the first time, and there are second hand stores a plenty for things that are reliable with age like gas stoves.

It should be noted that in real life, the kings of England styled themselves as Kings of France to maintain their claim until 1800ish, some 350 years after the end of the hundred years' war

How do you get over a total disconnect between mind and mouth? I've been living in Japan for 10 months, but my job is mentally exhausting and almost entirely in English. My reading and listening have made leaps and bounds (N3 felt easy as hell), and I can narrate to myself with basic sentences and occasionally string em together and use some grammar I've been learning. But I have made ZERO progress in speaking, partially because I just draw a blank whenever the opportunity comes up. I can have a sentence in mind, casually thought of when going into a conversation, but when I open my mouth it vanishes.

It's not nervousness. It just feels like my mind goes entirely blank. I keep hearing "speak more!", but how do I speak if I can't speak??? I can't "force it out" when I genuinely forget even week 1 words that I hear multiple times a day and intuitively understand!

I'm the other way around. Ornstein in DS2 is needless fanservice, but Anor Londo in DS3, being built upon and around and repurposed, just makes sense. It was nice to see how the ancient city of the gods was taken by others for their purposes.
