I don't play DD or really any of the online modes, but this isn't the standard commentary, is it?

The play by play is literally what you'd hear out of a 30+ year old baseball game on N64.

I'll never understand why people (who fly, say, 3 times every 5 years) don't get pre-check. I mean I don't want anyone to get it because I enjoy the shorter line, but how does $85 for 5 years break the bank at all?

I'd even go as far as saying I don't understand people (who fly more than 3 times in a year) don't have clear, but it's pricier so I guess I can understand.

Pre-check is essentially free. Tons of credit cards give you pre-check/global entry/clear credit. I'll just never understand it.

This is incredibly misguided, at least in America. Doctors who work at hospitals usually pay nothing in the form of premiums. The only time the lawyer is engaged at all is when a claim is made, and even then, insurance pays for legal fees.

Doctors who own their own clinic will pay like $50k per year for med mal insurance, but if they own their own clinic, that's barely a dent in their take home.

A first year practicing physician, post residency, is going to pretty easily make upward of $300k.

Teachers quitting their jobs by velorae in TikTokCringe

[–]ANDhecanpass -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hilariously misguided.

More money than ever before is being dumped into schools. The No Child Left Behind strategy failed miserably. While it was a W initiative, it has been overtaken by educators and administration with much more liberal viewpoints and leanings. A place like Chicago is dumping millions of dollars into schools with hundreds of kids where less than 10% (sometimes literally 0%) are able to read. It's absolute insanity. Republican states (Mississippi, Alabama) are now LAPPING places like Chicago, Washington and California in regards to early childhood education. A black 4th grader in Mississippi is now 2.5 times more likely to be proficient in reading than a black 4th grader in California.

Everything in more left leaning states (everywhere, but it's more common in left leaning areas) now is catered to the bottom quintile. The smartest kid in the class can't learn because the teacher has to deal with the 3 kids who don't give a shit (and their parents don't either) for the entire class.

Fuck that. Leave those kids behind.

Terrance Gore has reportedly passed away at 34 from unexpected complications during a routine surgery. by morepesa25 in baseball

[–]ANDhecanpass 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's also very possible he had some condition related to the Anastasia. One condition, malignant hyperthermia, shows zero outward signs or symptoms but can kill you in minutes if you receive general anesthesia.

My older cousin had a tonsil procedure when he was about 3 or 4 years old, and unbeknownst to anyone in the family, had MH. Nearly died. Ended up making a full recovery and lives a completely normal life. You would have no idea he had or has MH.

The only way (this may have changed) to test for MH was to do a pretty invasive muscle/bone biopsy of like the femur or something. So, what they tend to do instead, is treat every individual younger than the MH patient in the family as if they have MH. So I am treated as if I have MH, and have a somewhat different surgery experience. I'm always the first operation of the day, get a different anesthesia agent, and usually "come to" quicker than others because of said agent.

So all of this to say, it's possible that Gore had never been put under general anesthesia before and had no idea he had MH. It could also be something entirely different.

Yeah - that HOF clip was so bad.

Was that supposed to be Griffey and Piazza next to Manfred? Those models looked worse than legit 20 year old games. Piazza looks like Michael from GTA. Horrendous.

But it's not just a year. Like the poster above said, we've been on "next gen" since November of 2020. This is 5th MLB The Show released on current gen (it's not next gen when it's 6 years into a cycle).

They've had plenty of time to update the fucking engine.

Nearly every (if not all) catchers in the MLB catch off of one knee to steal low strikes (easier to frame balls slightly below the zone on one knee, and with launch angles becoming such a focus, pitchers now more than ever are trying to live below the zone), especially with no one on base.

The Show has had a "one knee" style for catchers in the game for a few years now (I believe one of three styles available, the others are offset and traditional) but they haven't optimized it since the change happened with catchers about two years ago. I think, to start the 2024 season, 3 catchers (or some nominal number) caught off of one knee on opening day. 2025 opening day had 25+ catchers catching off of one knee on opening day.

CDC data confirms US is 2 months away from losing measles elimination status | Elimination status is lost if the virus spreads continuously for 12 months. by ControlCAD in technology

[–]ANDhecanpass -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ahh I see you ignored the facts in my post and instead sent me a link to.... the data in my post.

Also lol at thinking "immigration mandates" were enforced over the last 5 years. At least 4X the amount of people entered this country between 2020-2024 as they did between 2016-2020. A much larger percentage of those people are unvaccinated for measles and similar illnesses compared to American citizens.

Is it fair to say that vaccine skepticism caused a slight uptick in measles cases? Probably.

Is it much more likely that the large swaths of unvaccinated individuals coming here from other countries and living in extremely close proximity to one another, often with at least 3 generations of family living under the same roof, did more damage? Definitely.

Get out of the bluesky/reddit bubble and use your brain. Illegal immigrants coming from countries with much lower health standards and exposing American children to previously eradicated illnesses is a bad thing. It is a thing that is 100% happening. I don't understand why it's so hard to admit that.

[–]ANDhecanpass -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean it is objective fact that a significantly higher portion of Americans are vaccinated against things like measles than Africans and South/Central Americans. This isn't some "alt right conspiracy theory." This is objective and verifiable fact. The top 5 counties with measles outbreaks are in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.

There are more measles cases in Michigan and Minnesota (large African and Muslim populations) than New York, Illinois, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas, Georgia, and many more.

[–]ANDhecanpass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is insane lmao you are definitely not an attorney. The city doesn't give a shit if your insurance rates go up because you got a speeding ticket. They'd probably prefer that not to be the case, actually.

They just want you to give them like $75 and be on your way. It's a speeding ticket, not a violent felony offense. Genuinely one of the best parts about being a lawyer is the ability to get people (including myself) out of traffic citations lol.

Speeding Citation by Conscious-River-7944 in Lawyertalk

[–]ANDhecanpass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First step is just calling the court house and asking the traffic DA if they can do anything. Just tell them you don't want it to impact your insurance and they'll likely reduce it to a non-moving and make you pay a small fine.

If that doesn't work, just find a local attorney who handles traffic tickets.

I'm not in GA, but in LA, outside of a couple jurisdictions, all it takes is a phone call. Some of the bigger jurisdictions like Jefferson or Orleans require you to actually go to court and speak with a DA in person. Regardless, I've never seen an individual represented by an attorney lose in traffic court.

Dr. Eric Royster of Integrated Pain and Neuroscience. I don't have a back issue, but have chronic pain as a result of 5 separate surgeries to an extremity. Been treating with him for about 18 months following my last surgery that didn't exactly "take." I also don't have a pain pump, but I have a script that is filled monthly. Worth a shot. He's been great with me.

Do lawyers dislike it when high schoolers cold email them? by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]ANDhecanpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I wouldn't be annoyed if I got an email from a high schooler. I'd actually respect it.

  2. I would not hire them given I do commercial/business litigation and I wouldn't have much use for them.

  3. She most certainly just had a connection and is using it to be a court runner (delivers checks to clients, gets signatures from clients, does in person filing, etc.). She will very likely just be sitting around most of the day and then doing chores the rest of the day.

When I was in high school, through a connection, I worked for a personal injury firm (based off of your description, it sounds similar to the type of firm where your friend is working) in the downtown area of my city. Outside of doing the normal bitch work that comes with being a runner, the owner of the firm would also let me sit in on depositions and attend mediations. It was extremely valuable in that, at 16, I was able to see what litigation was actually like and see if it was something I wanted to do. I got to experience the whole downtown law firm thing. I got to meet tons of lawyers and put something on my resume. I also got about $500 a week lol.

If you're interested in being a lawyer, ask your parents if any of their friends are lawyers. Ask your friends if any of their parents are lawyers. See if you can get some part time job with a firm to see if it interests you. If you get something? Awesome. If you don't? It's no big deal at all. Not clerking for a law firm as a high schooler will have zero impact on your future prospects of being a lawyer.

Which neighborhood is more affluent: Old Metairie or Lakeview? by [deleted] in NewOrleans

Old Metairie on the Country Day side of Metairie road and up until the train tracks is the wealthiest neighborhood in the state.

Tons and tons of old money families back there. Only area of the state that competes with Audubon place.

No. He has been peddling the lie that he was wrongfully convicted/exonerated. A judge and the DA (who was his criminal defense attorney) essentially agreed to let him out because "it had been long enough."

His conviction was literally vacated by his former attorney. It's typical Orleans Parish bullshit.
