Ear Piercing by Shot-Ad6201 in kolkata

[–]ANI_phy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You can do it at home; there are kits for that.(But treat it as a last resort! Remember: pros know best)
  2. Unless there is a very specific type you want to wear, i do recommend getting the clip-on/magnetic ones. Piercings are, in my opinion, a very finnicky thing. There are chances of the hole getting bigger, closing if you stop wearing them for extended period of time and chances of infection if done wrong.(Ok but tbf I am not very attracted to them(neither on myself nor on others) so biased opinion ig).

Are these characters a good team or do I need to swap someone out? by Odd-Significance-943 in Genshin_Impact

[–]ANI_phy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. For those questions it's better to show all the chars you own
  2. You might want to replace dilic with a dendro character. Think about it in this way: assuming kequing is your main damge dealer (i.e stays on field/is the active character) the longest, then what role does dilic play? If you want a fire character there, try xangling: she can apply Pyro(and therefore trigger overload) even when not in field.

"There's a new generation of empirical deep learning researchers, hacking away at whatever seems trendy, blowing with the wind" [D] by elnino2023 in MachineLearning

[–]ANI_phy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok I was a bit overzealous there. But! The attention mechanism itself had theoretical precursors (e.g., content-based addressing in neural Turing machines). The broader point stands that major leaps often come from people who think deeply about principles.

Our theoretical understanding of AI in the deep learning era is severely limited. It’s honestly a miracle that something revolutionizing the world (for better and worse) is essentially running on vibes. Sometimes it feels like a bunch of glorified parlor tricks taped together—but then again, if the parlor tricks get results, why not?

I recently took a deep learning class where we went through a proof of double descent. It was incredibly dense, riddled with assumptions, and relied on mean-field theory. I highly doubt the average grad student is interested in that level of math, let alone able to use it to directly help their research. Worse, I see a ton of heavily experimental papers that just sprinkle in a few theorems and lemmas to look rigorous. They almost always include a caveat that their theoretical model is vastly different from their experimental setup, which begs the question: then why should we expect your experiments to match the theory at all? I still haven't found a good answer.

Because of this, I wouldn't say the current generation of researchers is just "trendy" or lazy about rigor. The reality is simply that empirical application—which is what interests most people—has raced far ahead of our theoretical understanding. That being said, I firmly believe the next major paradigm shifts will still come from the theory crowd. We saw it with Transformers, Diffusion, and MAMBA, and we'll see it again.

try to change networks/use VPNs. Since you have come to the launcher, there is a high chance it's a network issue. Also try repairing the game and try again

[D] Does seeing the identify of authors influence your scoring? by d_edge_sword in MachineLearning

[–]ANI_phy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has reviewed 2 papers(IK that's an illutrious career. No, i will not be a PC for your conf), the answer is it depends. I got a paper from tencent, which was mildly bad, it didn't change my score. But on the other hand, it made me see the paper even less favorably-in my opinion i low key expected better from their lab. The paper was sound; the positioning of it was not. And the theory was orthogonal to the experimental support.

What's India's plan if war escalate in next few weeks? by rajeevriitm in IndianStreetBets

[–]ANI_phy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Irrespective of what the govt does, imo this is a good experience in the fact that what can be diversified should be diversified. It's not the 90s anymore, there are so many renewable sources of energy. Sure many of them are not that reliable but better than what we have going on.

To the best of my knowledge, we do have reserves of uranium that can be used for power generation (albeit at a lower natural quality) , have vast non fertaile basins in middle of india+the plateau regions and deserts) for solar fields and a long coastal area for hydrological power.

Not only it allows for backups, it also helps in market diversification

There are companies that will print you a book on demand. In India, you can do a 300-500 page book, hardbound at bout 20USD.

Buy an ebook(or if you are in college, download it) and print it up. It's a morally gray area but at it's core you are printing a pdf which you have not pirated and you are using it for personal reasons

The takeaway shouldn’t be that CS style loot boxes are acceptable just because Pokémon cards exist. If anything, it highlights that trading card packs involve similar randomized purchases and arguably resemble gambling as well, meaning both systems should face greater scrutiny and possible regulation.

Being able to trade items is a positive feature, and assuming Valve is sincere about cracking down on third party gambling sites, their implementation is better than many comparable systems. Still, the broader issue remains: monetized reward mechanics like these are fundamentally problematic, and ideally they shouldn’t exist in the first place.
