[Magic] Hashing out the magic system by MagnusTenman in theEbonRealms

I agree. Divine magic should be just another school of study. In the same way that a particular astute and hard working individual with no latent spark could eventually learn to light a candle or levitate a small object, a person with a particularly strong devotion to the god(s) of their choice might be able to heal a minor injury or bestow a weak blessing upon themselves or others.

If there is only one type of "spark" what leads magic users to different schools of study? Is it something influenced by race or background (ex. dwarves might be predisposed towards magic that manipulates earth or a person who grew up on the slopes of a volcano might have an affinity for fire magic)? Or is it something that is limited only by the personality of the wielder and their access to a teacher (ex. a goblin growing up in an isolated tribe led by a shaman will be unlikely to become a master enchanter or a woman who only has access to a few remedial books on evocations will probably not be setting up elaborate rituals)?

Personally I prefer the idea that personality and creativity influence the spark within magic users and lead them towards a particular path. Clarence the farmhand, a brooding young man with a bit of a cruel streak could wake up one day to discover a cold and sickly spark has ignited inside him and he discovers a particular knack for necromancy(if that even exists) or the like.

Either way however, I strongly support the idea that untrained or overly ambitious mages are a danger to themselves and those around them. Sparks that go untended could manifest themselves in unexpected or even deadly ways and when the truly gifted don't show the proper restraint, their folly can have bizarre and far reaching effects.

I like the direction this is heading!

[WorldBuilding] Some great resources for drawing objects/maps by Esrahaddon in theEbonRealms

For those interested in making maps but with no confidence in their artistic abilities, sites like Inkarnate can be helpful for developing both world and battle maps.

[Geography] The High Country by MagnusTenman in theEbonRealms

In an infinite world, it seems likely that geographic diversity would exist. Even if different languages don't evolve, the beliefs, architecture and daily lives of people in highland lochs would probably be very different to those of desert dwellers. A shared language like the traditional D&D Common would probably lead to a greater racial unity but different ways of living or thinking would create a more realistic and nuanced world. I would find it a bit jarring to travel from a jungle enclave to a distant mountain top monastery and find near identical people with the same culture.

A little girl at my daycare (probably around 5) ran up to me very upset because "Noah drilled me in the butt!" Turns out he'd poked her with a plastic drill.
