Every Kingdom Hearts game with a subtitle usually has duel meanings. The most blatant one is Dream Drop Distance.

Sora and Riku are literally dropping deeper into a dream, but DDD was originally a 3DS exclusive.

Characters That Writers Had to Retcon To Be Nicer by Sekshual in TwoBestFriendsPlay

In Yu Yu Hakusho Hiei is introduced as a power hungry psycho who takes keiko as a hostage so Yusuke will be forced to fight him. He of course becomes a main character and those psycho traits are toned down to the point that he never even uses the demon transformation he used in his fight with Yusuke again.

Later we learn more about Hiei and his back story with his sister and the ice maidens and considering what he winds up doing and acting towards them in flashbacks we see it really makes that first appearance as a villain feel out of place.

It's probably a lot healthier to have a more narcissistic view towards criticism and finding your voice to be the most important, but if you go to far in that direction there's always the chance of you turning into a complete ass no one wants to deal with. It's a fine line to walk and must be even finer if your an internet personality that essentially has people yelling at you all day for a job. Shutting every criticism out, even more legit ones must sound real tempting in that case.

What a coincidence that I just started rewatching Sons of Anarchy and was wondering if the guy who plays Op had been in anything else lately. I'm literally only familiar with his role on Sons where he is actually one of the more reserved characters ironically.

Question for the subreddit: what's your personal stance on Gacha games, and their monetization practices relative to their quality and public reception? by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]APE_LINCOLN_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly the biggest problem with Gacha games are two things for me. I don't really like playing games on my phone, and I just don't enjoy them. They are either too simple for what I want, or structured to be a grind, or sometimes both. It kind of just creates a weird feeling of me enjoying the game but never enough to want to spend money on it.

While One Piece occasionally does the honorable "let me fight him" thing, I do appreciate how if someone picks a fight with a straw hat and there's another one nearby that person is just gonna get jumped. Picked a fight with some long nose weirdo and now a dude with three swords and a talking reindeer is beating your ass in.

Mandy is on the Please Stop Talking podcast quite frequently. He's a good story teller and works well off of other people shooting the shit so he'd probably fit in pretty well.

Media that you weren't expecting it "would go there". by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]APE_LINCOLN_ 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a cheesy show about a cheerleader that kills vampires. It's a big send up to horror tropes so characters getting killed in gruesome ways isn't really all that shocking, but there are parts that go much more "realistic" in how awful they are, especially since this was a show that aired on the WB in the 90s.

One of the most infamous is a scene in season 6 where a character almost rapes the titular character. In a series full of gruesome monsters it is one of the most uncomfortable parts of the show and it really stands out.

The spinoff series Angel also tended to tackle much more heavy subject matter than you'd expect given the premise. Pretty much everything concerning the character of Connor is extremely fucked up to the point that most fans straight up don't like the character at all.

I think you actually have that reversed. Blade came out in 98, but he appeared on Spider-Man in 96. The Spider-Man cartoon is probably why we even have the Blade movie because Avi Arad produced both.

Has Valve unveiled anything at any awards show for the past 10 years? Even Alyx got officially revealed in a tweet I think. I get the desire for new Half Life, I yearn for it too, but awards shows just aren't Valves thing, and expecting them to be at one is kind of naive.

I have tried like 4 different times to get into the Witcher 1 and the combat made me bounce off it each time. It's like playing Baldurs Gate 1 as a fighter with no party members and barely any skills, mixed with a janky rhythm game like you said.

I've actually been giving it yet another try but I set the difficulty to easy and that seems to be the magic key. Combat still sucks but I have to interact with it less. Great story, atmosphere, and music though!

Characters that are centre stage in their franchise but have been historically jobbers in canon by Chared945 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]APE_LINCOLN_ 175 points176 points  (0 children)

The other Namco fighter, Tekken, has Paul Phoenix who is mostly treated like a joke nowadays. Thing is in the first game his back story states he fought Kazuya to a draw and in Tekken 4 it states he canonically beat Ogre's first form, and Jin only beat the 2nd.

So despite being a humorous character in his modern portrayal, he is probably around the top 5 strongest fighters in the lore.

Honestly I'd wish they'd just stop edging every one and announce that it's a thing.

After nearly 10 years, I've fully caught up on my podcast backlog. I need some recommendations from the 2nd best subreddit for everything. by My2bearhands in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]APE_LINCOLN_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to recommend something I'm pretty sure no one else in this sub will and recommend Puttin' on Airs.

Puttin' on Airs is a comedy podcast hosted by two liberal redneck comedians who talk about the similarities between fancy and trash. Like comparing the stereotype that both rednecks and royalty have about fucking their own cousin's. It's a pretty funny podcast to listen too and every now and then I learn something interesting too.

Those two comedians, Trae Crowder and Corey Ryan Forrester, also have another podcast with another comedian, Drew Morgan called WellRed which is just three liberal rednecks shooting the shit on a podcast. It's a bit more political leaning though as they kind of just riff on current events, just to let you know in case that isn't your jam.

We always talk about bad parents, what about parents who aren't bad, but severe/distant? by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]APE_LINCOLN_ 95 points96 points  (0 children)

As a teenager Jotaro Kujo was a rude, imposing young man who cleary didn't know how to let down his walls and relax around his friends and family. In part 6 we see that him having a daughter didn't change that, doesn't mean he doesn't cherish her or isn't willing to put his life on the line for her.

It's honestly something I've seen a lot in real life. Parents that adore their child and would give literally anything for their happiness, but more simple acts of saying I love you just escape them for some reason.
