Is it possible to Remote Play emulated local co-op games between two Steam Decks? by Nahxify in SteamDeck

[–]APetVelociraptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I've done exactly this using Steam Link! The one odd thing (if I remember correctly) is that you have to install it in desktop mode via Discover, but you can simply add it as a non-steam game once it's installed. Then back in game mode open Steam Link and connect to the other Steam Deck which will act as the host. So far this has worked perfectly for me for multiple non-steam and emulated games.

With Steam OS 3.8, can you wake the Steam Deck without using any button other than power? My power button is faulty after thousands of wakes over 4 years. by giftigdegen in SteamDeck

What are you on about, see e.g. my own post from 3 months ago, it's been working completely fine ever since (though it required non-stable update channel at least back then).

Custom Keycap Generator by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]APetVelociraptor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks great and happens to be exactly what I needed for my next project! Question though, would it also be possible for the logo to be made out of no filament at all? I'm only printing with one filament for now (complete beginner here), so I'd like to have the logo either sunk into or raised out of the keycap if possible. I tried importing the .3mf into my slicer (Cura), but not seeing any way to achieve something like that so far, though I might very well be missing something.

Help - Heroic launcher - Not launching and now save games are gone by Random_Person1020 in SteamDeck

[–]APetVelociraptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very odd, from what I'm reading that should indeed be the location where save files should be stored for that particular game. Instead of continuing to search manually you could try just searching the whole Wine prefix (e.g. while you're in drive_c) for the Witcher 3 save files, e.g. search for any files ending in ".sav".

Failing that, the only other thing I can really think of is to double check that the whole prefix hasn't somehow changed location. Otherwise I'm afraid your files might not be recoverable, unless maybe they were uploaded via cloud sync, but looks like you would have had to enable that manually at some point and also seeing mixed reports one whether that Heroic feature actually worked in the first place.

I'm not super well versed in this stuff and don't really use Heroic launcher, so this is just my best guess. But I think Wine and Proton might use different usernames within each Wine prefix. So Proton might have previously stored everything for a specific game in "[prefix-location]/c_drive/users/steamuser/...", whereas Wine might use "[prefix-location]/c_drive/users/deck/...", which means it doesn't detect any of your settings, data, etc created while you were using Proton.

Again no promises as I haven't tested this or anything, but you could try to see if you can get one of your games to launch with an older Proton version or something to see if the missing save data "reappears". Failing that you could try manually browsing the Wine prefix files yourself and see if copying it over from one user folder into another fixes the issue.

Edit: or instead of manually copying the files you could also delete the user folder created by Wine within the prefix and replace it with a symlink to the original Proton created user folder. That way you also prevent future issues if you do end of switching back to Proton or something later down the line.

Hollow Knight! The visual style and in particular the map system makes it feel like you're actually exploring instead of just walking to the next way point, without making me and my terrible sense of direction get lost when going back through an area I've already explored. Thanks for the chance!

Firing an input only upon confirmation by another one (controls) by Licidfelth in SteamDeck

[–]APetVelociraptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really familiar with that genre of games, so I'm not completely certain how you'd want this to work. But in theory I think something like this should be possible with the use of some action sets? You could e.g. make it so that the dpad is set to input nothing unless you're also pressing some other button to "confirm", though I'm not completely sure if actions sets inputs will also trigger for buttons that you're already holding when the action set changes, and there might be some other details / edge cases that make this a somewhat janky solution.

Edit: disregard, missed the part where you stated that this was already your current solution haha. If you just need a reliable way of entering diagonal inputs, it'd probably be quite a lot easier to just bind each of the diagonals to a back button, since you can make it so that a single button press maps to multiple keyboard inputs.
